I think these companies just need to stop talking about maybes and hypotheticals, and what they will and won't do, but then they may not so that.

If they release the game on another platform, then it happens, but it shouldn't be expected. The fact this has even become a question that keeps getting asked means that the waters have been muddied, and MS was the first to start talking about it, and now they're saying no plans, but of course, no plans doesn't mean they won't eventually do it.

Same goes for any company, and the fan boy bickering around it is pretty old.

After reading the article I think they referring to the studios they just recently bought. They'll basically saying, yes, we are launching these games as previously planned on all announced platforms, but moving forward dont expect them to be day and date launched on multiple platforms.

Old ports like Ori and cuphead etc. May still come to nintendo at some point since they like their partnership... just dont expect Ori 2 to launch on Switch.

Honest question. Why port to switch only? Wouldn’t a PS4 port be easy and much more straightforward than a switch port? It’s almost like they don’t view switch as it’s own market and want their games there. Like how they view pc as separate. But with PS4 they realize the direct competitor aspect to it and withhold games. So much for wanting as many people to experience the games. What about the 90+ million games with ps4?

The only version that didn't have to happen is the Nintendo Switch version. Mojong had contracts in place to produce the other versions before Microsoft purchased them.

You seem to not know what a contractual agreement is. Further I don't think you understand how rights to IPs work. If you do based on your logic Sony could've stopped Spyro and Crash from going anywhere but PlayStation.

When exactly exclusives did not matter? Microsoft has a partnership with Nintendo and has allowed some of their small casual exclusive games to be released on the Switch. This particular partnership led stupid PS fanboys to believe that Microsoft would release their heavy hitters like Halo, Gears and Forza on Playstation.

People have said consistently this gen that exclusives don't matter because the top selling games are multi-platform titles anyway and that the profit comes from software not hardware so putting you're exclusives on as many devices as possible (which no longer makes them exclusive) is the way to go and is the future of gaming and that traditional exclusivity are no longer as important.

Of course they do. That was never the issue. The issue was that fanboys attacked Microsoft for putting their games on Windows...a platform that's already owned by Microsoft haha. Im not worried too much about quantity or quality going forward from Xbox. With the amount of studios Microsoft now has through acquisitions - with more to come - mixed with all the additional talent they've been hiring at their existing studios...they appear topped in and ready to take on 2020 and beyond.

These are good quality studios...Inxile, Playground, Ninja Theory, Double Fine, Obsidian...they have all produced hits in the past and are all currently hiring talented devs that will make them even better!

I never said it did excuse them...it does not. This has been the worse generation from a quality first party games effort from them...no doubt about it. However, you want to see how people respond when they struggle in something...that's where they show what they're made of...and so far so good.

Lets be honest, they had more than enough devs to support the 360 during kinect, but choose not to, same when the one launched, I agree that it looks much better now, but that does not excuse a whole gens worth of waiting, let's not forget the promises of massive game support came up when kinect was released, came up again at xbox 1 launch, and then throughout this gen, like I said, its deffo looking better, but I'm waiting this time, this will be the first xbox I'm not sure I'll be buying, that's thanks to ms actions and words through the last half of last gen till now, not because they are releasing stuff on pc.

lol Just the other day fanboys were saying that Sony was doing what MS was doing by bringing games like Uncharted, Last Of Us, and Gran Tourismo to PC and Xbox, just because Sony said that they may bring Multiplayer only titles to PC and how 'we live in interesting times' because of it . Meaning they too believed a game like Gears could end up on other consoles.

Either way fanboys have constantly downplayed exclusives all gen. Saying that their only purpose was to move hardware sales and that hardware sales not important software sales is and thus releasing exclusives on as many devices as possible is the future and that traditional exclusivity is not important anymore.

When you say PC, what you really mean is Windows specifically. Dont imply that PC in this case means Mac and Linux as well...it doesn't. Last time I checked, Microsoft owns Windows...that would be like Sony releasing games to both PS consoles and Vita at the same time yet still claiming they are exclusives...didnt games like MLB: The Show and Little Big Planet release for both Sony's console and handheld...those are two different platform aren't they, yet they are still considered exclusives right? You likely won't get agreement from the Sony side after the announcement they're planning to produce PC versions of some PS exclusives. If you do the realization will set in that PC by all accounts is no part of the Sony ecosystem and Microsoft has never shied away from PC. Sony did however in numerous instances like the destruction of Vaio and SOE.

Further with Sony even admitting they are considering using Azure it says that MS has the larger and more abundant online infrastructure. If Sony does use Azure MS would stand to gain more than they already do on that front and Sony would effectively be leaning on the competition to get a boost in online areas.

Sony wants to use ms servers, atleast they want to look into using them, while it's good for both, it's not sony leaning on the competition, the main ms and sony work together more than compete lol it's servers!! Sony isn't a server company, so ofcourse they will look at the companies that provide it, They can use any companies, because it's just a server farm. There's a big difference between PC and console or Windows Store. Releasing on Steam, for example, is %30 of profits that they lose out on as it goes to Valve.

Windows OS doesn't mean they maintain the profit potential.

You do realize that it is for cloud gaming purposes specifically, not MP gaming, and that Google and AWS do exist?

Microsoft clearly isn't worried about losing 30% to Valve if they are willing to put their games on that store front. Them releasing on PC has nothing to do with 36K last week and weeks before around that number. It's the fatigued playerbase on XB1 with Halo, Gears, Forza. And when they do release some other IP big game we get Crackdown 3, Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 3, Quantum Break. With only small time games Cuphead, and Ori being of top quality. Honestly the only games I feel I have missed out this gen on XB1 are Cuphead, (Quantum Break: yes still wanna play it), Gears, and (originally Inside: that came out a month later on PS4) So really three games this whole gen, just not enough to invest Time & Money in yet another console for three games of interest. If MS comes out with some games next gen that I can't pass up on then sure, perhaps I'll "jump in". So I think that's why your seeing a low buy in compared to PS4&Switch. They are just killing it with exclusives.

Well of course they won't. The Outer World's (for example) is one of gaming's most interesting new franchises and it has people talking.
