Company says the focus is on its own platforms
Interesting. I hope they stick to their word. Because it was becoming hell of confusing to the consumer, seeing once MS exclusives on other platforms.
Then it’s odd Ori and the Blind Forest was brought to Switch? Unlike Cuphead and Super Lucky’s Tale, Ori is MS owned. It almost like the Switch release of Ori is being done to market the sequel.
What's even weirder is that right when Sony says they are looking Into porting some of their games elsewhere MS says they have no plans to do that. Has hell frozen over?
@UltraNova Sony probably just meant PC and mobile, not Nintendo or Xbox. Also it's multiplayer titles only.
@UltraNova More interesting that this comes after Sony acquired Insomniac. Being able to play on as many devices as possible was a huge talking point up until now. Is someone feeling the heat?
I think these companies just need to stop talking about maybes and hypotheticals, and what they will and won't do, but then they may not so that. If they release the game on another platform, then it happens, but it shouldn't be expected. The fact this has even become a question that keeps getting asked means that the waters have been muddied, and MS was the first to start talking about it, and now they're saying no plans, but of course, no plans doesn't mean they won't eventually do it. Same goes for any company, and the fan boy bickering around it is pretty old.
Damn it I hate when they cut the title of articles to reflect half true. Here is the rest Unless they’re loosing the next generation
After reading the article I think they referring to the studios they just recently bought. They'll basically saying, yes, we are launching these games as previously planned on all announced platforms, but moving forward dont expect them to be day and date launched on multiple platforms. Old ports like Ori and cuphead etc. May still come to nintendo at some point since they like their partnership... just dont expect Ori 2 to launch on Switch.
Honest question. Why port to switch only? Wouldn’t a PS4 port be easy and much more straightforward than a switch port? It’s almost like they don’t view switch as it’s own market and want their games there. Like how they view pc as separate. But with PS4 they realize the direct competitor aspect to it and withhold games. So much for wanting as many people to experience the games. What about the 90+ million games with ps4? This is one more example of ms saying one thing and doing another.
Interesting now they're supporting their own platform again.
Brother, if you paid attention, you would never think that Halo was coming to PS4 at any time. I still believe they will release xCloud for the Switch and some smaller games. But PS4 was never gonna get anything. That notion was ridiculous and that's why I want to end this world and create a new one where we can avoid stupidity like this.
Did people honestly believe that? That's kind of wild. I see arguments that their games will end up everywhere just because they release all their games on PC now, too. Yet people fail to realise that Microsoft owns Windows so in a way they're still exclusive to Microsoft and certainly still exclusive to their console, if you dig deep into it.
Brother I was listening and for awhile all games were going to different platforms
"Microsoft has "no plans" to release more Xbox exclusives on PS4 or Nintendo Switch" because sony bought the carpet right from underneath them. what do you expect. no more insomniac games.
"more" Have they released any exclusives on Nintendo or Sony platforms?
Minecraft on everything and a good amount of their other exclusives on the Nintendo switch.
But Minecraft has never been an Xbox exclusive.
Well mindcraft was on PS3, long before Mindcraft being acquired.
They don't Develop/Own Cuphead, They don't Develop/Own Lucky's Tale. They Own Ori but they don't develop it. Even if you count those. How is that a "good amount" ? It's only 3 games lol. Minecraft is an exception. We've been over this a billion times.
Ori, Minecraft and Cuphead were all games MS allowed on Nintendo/Sony platforms, they could have chosen to make the exclusive.
Those games were already on PC and Minecraft has been on Nintendo and Sony consoles since before MS bought them.
"Ori, Minecraft and Cuphead were all games MS allowed on Nintendo/Sony platforms" Microsoft doesn't even own Cuphead ip, like Ori , and the dev said Cuphead will not release on PS4 Didn't know Ori has been announced for PS4 where did you get that ?
@2pacalypsenow MS could have easily removed those versions from sale and made it exclusive, obviously that would be stupid but if they wanted to they could. @PrinceOfAnger Ori/Cuphead are coming to Switch, thats what I was referring to. And I think you are right that MS don't own Cuphead but I think they get a say on where it releases because if I remember correctly it was part funded by MS.
The only version that didn't have to happen is the Nintendo Switch version. Mojong had contracts in place to produce the other versions before Microsoft purchased them. You seem to not know what a contractual agreement is. Further I don't think you understand how rights to IPs work. If you do based on your logic Sony could've stopped Spyro and Crash from going anywhere but PlayStation.
@2pac ***Those games were already on PC*** So are all of Microsoft's upcoming exclusives. I don't get how you would make this part of your argument seeing as Microsoft will continue to put their games out on PC. I think this statement is more an assurance that Microsoft will support their platform with content that won't be available on the other consoles, but I also think it's likely these second party games will continue to make their way elsewhere after a year of console exclusivity.
@2pacalypsenow "Have they released any exclusives on Nintendo or Sony platforms?" Ori is comming for the Switch
That's 1 game and they don't even develop
Viva Piniata was on the DS
Just do everyone a favor and bring Rare Replay to Switch
The Switch probably couldn’t properly emulate the 360 titles in Rare Replay.
Just do everyone a favor and stop drinking the Anti X Gatorade. The one year deal is over. Time to let Xbox go full force on Xbox.
It's time for XBox to finally die. It's been on life support for far too long.
So exclusives do matter?
@Outside_ofthe_Box When exactly exclusives did not matter? Microsoft has a partnership with Nintendo and has allowed some of their small casual exclusive games to be released on the Switch. This particular partnership led stupid PS fanboys to believe that Microsoft would release their heavy hitters like Halo, Gears and Forza on Playstation. The dream is over! Time to wake up!
To be fair that had less to do with ps fanboys(they still played a part) and was more ms fault than anyone elses, they were the ones talking up playing on any device etc etc, while at the same time not really making clear what they ment, then we had the ms fanboys hyping it all up like exclusives really didnt matter and that it would be much better to be able to play games on any device, how sales would be much better and how exclusives on consoles just wont cut it, how console sales are no longer important and that maus are.....now we are back to square one.
Heavy hitters? That's being a bit generous don't you think?
I cant believe Sony fans really thought Microsoft would release Halo Gears and Forza on ps4 without Sony returning the favor. I mean I know Microsoft does some things that really makes you say what hell are you doing but their not that stupid.
Anybody with common sense knows no matter what... these companies are not going to hand over their big AAA first party owned exclusives to another competing company.
@bluefox755 - are we saying that Halo, Gears and Forza aren't heavy hitters now? I mean I get you are a Sony fan and don't care for MS, but do you honestly believe what you type sometimes? Those three franchises are probably the biggest three for MS and those series have sold millions upon millions of titles.
@bluefox755 "Heavy hitters? That's being a bit generous don't you think?" Well, according to Metacritic: Forza Motorsport is a the superior racing franchise compared to Gran Turismo Forza Horizon score better than Driveclub Gears of War score better than The Order Halo score better than Killzone. Based on those facts, I´m sure you can figure out the answer for your question by yourself.
LOL PS fans never thought this would mean Halo, Forza, and Gears would be on PS or even Switch. That was Media, and Switch fans hoping for that. Give it up man.
"When exactly exclusives did not matter?" People have said consistently this gen that exclusives don't matter because the top selling games are multi-platform titles anyway and that the profit comes from software not hardware so putting you're exclusives on as many devices as possible (which no longer makes them exclusive) is the way to go and is the future of gaming and that traditional exclusivity are no longer as important.
"When exactly exclusives did not matter?" I believe that would be 2014 thru 2018. (xbox fans only of course)
@Obscure_Observer "When exactly exclusives did not matter" When Microsoft started putting their exclusives on PC and fanboys like you were hoping for Sony do the same.
Of course they do. That was never the issue. The issue was that fanboys attacked Microsoft for putting their games on Windows...a platform that's already owned by Microsoft haha. Fanboys didn't understand that just because Microsoft releases games like Gears 5 to multiple platforms, that they are still within their own ecosystem and that they are still exclusive to it.
To be fair the main issue was always the amount of games ms has been releasing, also the quality, yeah some fanboys defo said shite like that, but the main issue this gen is support, most level headed gamers didnt give ms any shite for pc releases. They did for their lack of games though.
@IR Im not worried too much about quantity or quality going forward from Xbox. With the amount of studios Microsoft now has through acquisitions - with more to come - mixed with all the additional talent they've been hiring at their existing studios...they appear topped in and ready to take on 2020 and beyond. These are good quality studios...Inxile, Playground, Ninja Theory, Double Fine, Obsidian...they have all produced hits in the past and are all currently hiring talented devs that will make them even better! EDIT: I never said it did excuse them...it does not. This has been the worse generation from a quality first party games effort from them...no doubt about it. However, you want to see how people respond when they struggle in something...that's where they show what they're made of...and so far so good.
Lets be honest, they had more than enough devs to support the 360 during kinect, but choose not to, same when the one launched, I agree that it looks much better now, but that does not excuse a whole gens worth of waiting, let's not forget the promises of massive game support came up when kinect was released, came up again at xbox 1 launch, and then throughout this gen, like I said, its deffo looking better, but I'm waiting this time, this will be the first xbox I'm not sure I'll be buying, that's thanks to ms actions and words through the last half of last gen till now, not because they are releasing stuff on pc.
I'm more than happy for ms to prove me wrong, I wasnt really implying you were ignoring their mistakes, more just explaining my views on why I feel the way I do towards ms, yes those studios are good, I've enjoyed games from every one of them, I agree that they look in much better shape to go forward than any gen yet, but like I say, their history and my personal experience being an xbox owner is telling me to wait them out this time.
"Of course they do. That was never the issue. The issue was that fanboys attacked Microsoft for putting their games on Windows" lol Just the other day fanboys were saying that Sony was doing what MS was doing by bringing games like Uncharted, Last Of Us, and Gran Tourismo to PC and Xbox, just because Sony said that they may bring Multiplayer only titles to PC and how 'we live in interesting times' because of it . Meaning they too believed a game like Gears could end up on other consoles. Either way fanboys have constantly downplayed exclusives all gen. Saying that their only purpose was to move hardware sales and that hardware sales not important software sales is and thus releasing exclusives on as many devices as possible is the future and that traditional exclusivity is not important anymore.
@Outside I feel you are seriously mixing what exactly multiplatform and exclusive means...they aren't the same thing in every case and in other cases you can have both. You are talking like a console war soldier on a good day...you need to reevaluate why you game in the first place...
I'm not mixing anything. I agree with MS titles still being exclusive within MS's ecosystem. Don't know why you're questioning why I game based off a post... Merely reciting what other people have said to downplay the importance of exclusives just as you recited what others have said to take issue with MS releasing games on PC... Want to be out here calling people names lol... look in the mirror
They are still releasing on pc. Therefore less reason to buy one justook at last weeks sales 36k worldwide, Xbox is dying why are you still defending them
When you say PC, what you really mean is Windows specifically. Dont imply that PC in this case means Mac and Linux as well...it doesn't. Last time I checked, Microsoft owns Windows...that would be like Sony releasing games to both PS consoles and Vita at the same time yet still claiming they are exclusives...didnt games like MLB: The Show and Little Big Planet release for both Sony's console and handheld...those are two different platform aren't they, yet they are still considered exclusives right? Well now you understand the concept...they are still considered exclusives because all platforms in this case are made by the same company...kust like Xbox consoles and Windows.
You likely won't get agreement from the Sony side after the announcement they're planning to produce PC versions of some PS exclusives. If you do the realization will set in that PC by all accounts is no part of the Sony ecosystem and Microsoft has never shied away from PC. Sony did however in numerous instances like the destruction of Vaio and SOE. Further with Sony even admitting they are considering using Azure it says that MS has the larger and more abundant online infrastructure. If Sony does use Azure MS would stand to gain more than they already do on that front and Sony would effectively be leaning on the competition to get a boost in online areas.
Timotim I think the point is we won't have to buy an Xbox anymore to play these games if we have a capable PC. It has nothing to do with brand loyalty lol, stop with the fanboy stuff. Just saves us buying another piece of hardware, and we can experience these games with prettier graphics/frame rates.
I dont really see why sony fans would need to disagree with what Tim said, if the games are only available in microsofts products, it's an exclusive, that's never really been the issue though has it, a few diehard fanboys used it to troll but the level headed ps gamers didnt care about pc releases. They just wanted more releases. What merrin said is also true though, being able to buy everything on pc will effect xbox sales, xbox fans say that's not important though, I disagree. Sony have still been distributing pc content, they never stopped, I could list them all but the info is easily found. Sony wants to use ms servers, atleast they want to look into using them, while it's good for both, it's not sony leaning on the competition, the main ms and sony work together more than compete lol it's servers!! Sony isn't a server company, so ofcourse they will look at the companies that provide it, They can use any companies, because it's just a server farm. But we see a lot of fanboys hyping it up to be some major thing when it's really not.
@Ricebum I'm sorry I couldn't read past the foolery. Does Microsoft care if you buy one of their own platforms over the other to play the same games on that you're either purchasing out right or getting their subscription service to do so...I dont think so. If that's the point then you shouldn't bring up points in the future, you're not good at it. What you just wrote sounds like more console war nonsense than anything else. "Oh my PS5 sold more than your Scarlett, Sony and PS is the best!!!"...silly 💩!!! Childish 💩!!! FANBOY 💩!!! I dont give a rats ass if you buy a Scarlett or a new PC or even upgrades to that PC to play XBOX Game Studio games on...and neither does Microsoft. In order to play their games (which is where the real money is), you will have to do it from one of their platforms so they are getting your money either way. No let me ask you an honest question (which I know you won't answer honestly)...when a 3rd party game releases on both PC and PS4...which version of the game do you get? Honestly...
@IRetroUK: "With this acquisition, SCE will establish a cloud service and expand its network business by taking full advantage of Gaikai's revolutionary technology and infrastructure including data centers servicing dozens of countries and key partners around the world." https://www.engadget.com/20...
I didnt say sony had no servers, I said sony are not a server company, they bought Gaikai more for their tech and to actually get ps now off the ground than anything else, just like onlive, they own some servers, but they are not a server company. You gonna respond to anything else in my reply or just the one thing you think I got wrong?
There's a big difference between PC and console or Windows Store. Releasing on Steam, for example, is %30 of profits that they lose out on as it goes to Valve. Windows OS doesn't mean they maintain the profit potential. Reference: https://www.theverge.com/20... @TheUndertaker85 said ***Further with Sony even admitting they are considering using Azure it says that MS has the larger and more abundant online infrastructure. *** You do realize that it is for cloud gaming purposes specifically, not MP gaming, and that Google and AWS do exist? I mean, tons of phones use Sony camera tech, but that doesn't mean those companies using them are admitting that Sony has the better phones or software to support the hardware.
@Chris Steam, Microsoft Store, Epic Store, Origin...these are all store fronts for the Windows platform. Microsoft clearly isn't worried about losing 30% to Valve if they are willing to put their games on that store front. Let Microsoft worry about that...they will actually increase their revenue despite the 30% loss by also putting their games on that store..
You guys can use buzzwords like ecosystem all day long and talk about who owns Windows and where the money goes and blah blah blah and that's all great everybody already knows that but at the end of the day what it means is people can play all their games without buying their unneeded and unnecessary console, end of. "I dont give a rats ass.........and neither does Microsoft." So MS spends millions upon millions to develop a new console and then doesn't care if anyone ever buys it, that doesn't make any sense at all, then again maybe they do give "a rats ass" and you dont actually speak for them.
@Solid "but at the end of the day what it means is people can play all their games without buying their unneeded and unnecessary console, end of." First off...what is "unnecessary" and "unneeded" about the next Xbox console??? You never gave reasons as to why you called it that. Just because you CAN play their games on a Windows PC doesn't mean one would WANT to. You haven't provided any reason as to why you think everyone is going to just stop buying their console to switch to their PCs just to get at these games...most won't, though some will. Explain to me why you feel millions of professed "console gamers" are going to pass up on a $500 4k/60FPS Xbox console to switch to a $1000+ PC just to equal what the next Xbox will bring to the table??? Explain to me why you feel console gamers even want to game on a PC at all if they are already use to and already love gaming on a console. You guys always say its a reason to switch to PC, that's its a reason not to buy the next Xbox...but you never give reasons as to why someone should. Console gamers will continue to be console gamers...PC gamers will continue to be PC gamers...then you will have a smaller set of gamers that enjoy gaming on both. Microsoft has them covered in their ECOSYSTEM either way. Its called reaching the gamer where they are. Wild concept I know. Steam surveys tells us that the vast majority of "PC gamers" are still rocking a GTX 1070 and 8 GBs of ram...the next Xbox will obliterate that without a second thought...sounds pretty needed to me. "So MS spends millions upon millions to develop a new console and then doesn't care if anyone ever buys it, that doesn't make any sense at all..." That never came out my mouth at all. Your comprehension needs work. Microsoft is spending millions and millions of dollars on the next Xbox console to sell them to CONSOLE GAMERS!!!😆 Ya know...those that like gaming on a console...ya know...those that aren't into gaming on a PC. Whats wrong with you. I got even more news for you...Microsoft spends "millions upon millions" on Windows gaming too!!! You think they are doing that just to sell a bunch of consoles and not foster their PC gaming investments??? You dont even sound right. Me Implying that PC gamers by the millions are just going to stop gaming on PC to switch to a console is just as silly as you implying that console gamers will switch to PC by the millions. WHY is the question...
"First off...what is "unnecessary" and "unneeded" about the next Xbox console??? " First off.... that's blatantly obvious I shouldn't have to spell it out for you. "Just because you CAN play their games on a Windows PC doesn't mean one would WANT to." You're confusing want with ability, again. "You haven't provided any reason as to why you think everyone is going to just stop buying their console to switch to their PCs just to get at these games..." I've provided the reason numerous times you just refuse to accept it. "most won't," You dont know how many will or won't so dont say "most" like you know. "Explain to me why you feel millions of professed "console gamers" are going to pass up on a $500 4k/60FPS Xbox console to switch to a $1000+ PC" I don't owe you an explanation for anything, and I never said millions, you're the one speculating numbers not me. The fact is the option is there for people to take advantage of whatever that number is. "just to equal what the next Xbox will bring to the table???" "Equal", LOL I don't think you know how PC's work. "Explain to me why you feel console gamers even want to game on a PC at all if they are already use to and already love gaming on a console." Better frame rates, better resolution, better graphics, quicker load times, less input lag, free online, modding opportunities, etc. I mean this all pretty common sense stuff. Explain to me why you feel people wouldn't want to take advantage of those things. "You guys always say its a reason to switch to PC, that's its a reason not to buy the next Xbox...but you never give reasons as to why someone should." The reasons are self evident again you just dont want to deal with them. "Console gamers will continue to be console gamers...PC gamers will continue to be PC gamers...then you will have a smaller set of gamers that enjoy gaming on both." And you'll have some that will stop playing on xbox altogether and play only on PC because they can. "Microsoft has them covered in their ECOSYSTEM either way." Ecosystem is the new MS buzzword for "we didn't sell enough consoles". "Steam surveys tells us that the vast majority of "PC gamers" are still rocking a GTX 1070 and 8 GBs of ram...the next Xbox will obliterate that without a second thought...sounds pretty needed to me." "Vast majority" LOL! "That never came out my mouth at all. Your comprehension needs work." You said Microsoft didn't "give a shit", your words bud. I comprehend just fine so maybe pick a story and stick to it. "Whats wrong with you." "You dont even sound right" I'm just having a conversation, sharing opinions and doing it without insults something you're clearly incapable of, but that's pretty common place when it comes to xbox fanboys. Its because of xbox fans like yourself MS has had no trouble in all but killing the relevance of their console, they've made you believe in words like "engagement" and "ecosystem" and it will only serve to make the xbox console even less relevant in the near future. Of course the end result of that will be more people playing xbox games on PC pretty much like I've been saying all along.
Them releasing on PC has nothing to do with 36K last week and weeks before around that number. It's the fatigued playerbase on XB1 with Halo, Gears, Forza. And when they do release some other IP big game we get Crackdown 3, Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 3, Quantum Break. With only small time games Cuphead, and Ori being of top quality. Honestly the only games I feel I have missed out this gen on XB1 are Cuphead, (Quantum Break: yes still wanna play it), Gears, and (originally Inside: that came out a month later on PS4) So really three games this whole gen, just not enough to invest Time & Money in yet another console for three games of interest. If MS comes out with some games next gen that I can't pass up on then sure, perhaps I'll "jump in". So I think that's why your seeing a low buy in compared to PS4&Switch. They are just killing it with exclusives.
A smart move. They exposed a new audience to one of their IPs. Now, If the new audience want to play the sequel they'll need to be in the Xbox ecosystem. xCloud - Xbox - Windows PC. Things happen - Switch might still get the sequel too but at a much later date from release.
