Don't know how knack 2 is (only played the demo and just did not click with me), but Knack 1 is one hell of a fun game (maybe a bit too hard on hard,.. but fun and mechanically rich enough. It almost ratchet quality if not better in some oldschool ways.
Ori and the Blind Forest sold well, got good reviews and strong fan reception, it was a no brainier for MS to do a sequel. However games like the following: Sunset Overdrive, Ryse, Quantum Break & ReCore didn't or aren't getting sequels due to a mixture of under performing sales (Qunatum Break,Sunset Overdrive & Ryse), mediocre reception (Ryse & ReCore) , or MS not owning the ip (Sunset Overdrive and Ryse)
Pretty much. These games take huge investments, I’m sure there’s rooms full of people that know the numbers that decided weather or not to do it. Just because a vocal minority screams for something on the internet doesn’t mean even they will buy it. People like to complain it’s human nature, sometimes it’s called for but there’s also just misurable people that do it none stop
Halo, Gear, and Forza have a huge established fanbase that's why they are always making those games.
"Sadly most fans don't like the games" I'm sorry but you don't speak for every Xbox gamer. They do like games like Sunset overdrive, Alan Wake, Ryse, Recore, Quantum Break, Killer Instinct and want sequels for all those games.
@Spurg Why did most those games have poor sales then? Don't get me wrong I love sunset overdrive, alan wake and ryse but clearly I was in the minority. Killer instinct has been very successful and I will be shocked if they don't announce a sequel for next gen
@mark, I'm going to gues and say the reason those games didnt sell well was also why the system as a whole didnt sell well. People were just turned off by the initial information. So those games sold to whatever the base was at the time. It certainly has grown over the years but sadly there is a stigma that new customers dont go back and buy older releases. They buy whatever is current and want new games going forward.
Its a real shame too as those early releases are still quite good and fun to play. I didnt get my xbo until three years in and I went for those because they were cheap (but then again 2nd hand sales dont really count in the overall sales because they were already counted at one time).
@Parch - what designates poor sales? Sunset Overdrive (according to vgchartz) sold 1.16 million. That's not bad.. Also according to VGChartz:
Overwatch (2.72m) Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege (2.71m) Tom Clancy's The Division (2.59m) Destiny 2 (2.35m) Battlefield 4 (2.09m) Star Wars Battlefront II (2017) (1.92m) Far Cry 4 (1.68m) Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands (1.61m) Doom (2016) (1.45m) Titanfall 2 (1.37m) Destiny: The Taken King (1.27m) Battlefield: Hardline (1.24m) Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 (0.86m) Wolfenstein: The New Order (0.75m) Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare (0.71m) Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (0.70m) Borderlands: The Handsome Collection (0.68m) Evolve (0.67m) Alien: Isolation (0.52m) BioShock The Collection (0.48m)
Only Playstation and Nintendo are allowed to make the same game over and over again Uncharted 26 Mario bros 2565 Mario 2565 full HD edition Gran Turismo 16 Luigi Mansion playmates hue hefner edition God of war 17
No he didn't Solid links aren't even creditable, for God's sake he post a forum link 😆 I'd believe Vgcharcmts over a random forum user. And it is confirmed sunset sold over 1 million now 300k so Solid post is BS (as usual) and No way owned him. You're right saying most fans don't but you can say that about 90% of new IP. According to you unless the game sell to 50% of the fanbase most don't right?
just make it a brainless fp shooter and watch the green flock praise it like its the next best thing since sliced bread .. anything more complicated than that, good luck selling it.
They don't need to leave Halo and Gears behind, though to be honest I personally wouldn't mind if they did so in lieu of different, equally big pursuits.
Exciting new IPs is exactly what Xbox needs; this single big problem has been hanging over Xbox since 2014. I want them to go the route of Sony while still maintaining their established franchises.
It's simple really - just make more high budget games.
First Uncharted sales were like 50,000 in its first month, can you imagine if Sony just gave up on that franchise? I would think they need a strategy and put in some effort to build up their fanbase. MS hasn't really been about nurturing their new properties
What? There are loads of articles on n4g where the topic of games and the lack of them this gen has come up for ms, and in everyone xbox fans were running defence, including yourself, why the revisionist history for?🤣 Why make stuff up when it's so easy to find?🤷♂️
Then I guess its the lack of big games in between that makes it seem like these franchises are stale. And thats true, they can do both. Im not saying stop making these games. If people are buying them then they should/will make more.
I can't agree with making so many bc if they are making good games, then great. They definitely need new IPs and stellar ones at that. Good luck to them, and their fans. For the sake of healthy competition I wish them well.
It comes down to the fact that Microsoft outsourced all their games and now they aren’t willing to fund those sequels from devs outside the Xbox game studios family
MS goal is to release a new game every 3 months. I assume that wont be possible until next gen when all its studios are in full force. Also its very likely that by EA next year they will announce a bunch more studios.
What do you mean? My problem honestly is that there are too many freaking sequels, of long dead or incredibly stale passed their prime franchises that continue to take up real estate space instead of new things getting the push and marketing. Also some games are just bad and licensing/budget things happen on all platforms with all dev teams, that's life.
Clearly Microsoft basically screwed up this generation. I do not say that with relish. I’m a fan of video games regardless who produces them. Let’s look forward to what comes next. The past is the past. Tomorrow is another country. I’m excited at the prospect of new horizons for all.
Sometimes it's best to leave the story where it is and keep fans wanting more, rather than overstating your welcome. Naughty Dog, for a time, had a tradition or finishing each IP at the end of a console generation, while Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us saw a Switch, it's that understanding that it's best to hold the reputation rather than dragging it out ro go stale, like Assassin's Creed, it's as common as Madden. Plus developers like, and it's good for them to try and do new things.
That can and has been said about every publisher. It isn't even that good of a list of Microsoft games the writer expects there to be sequels of since it only consists of games from this generation.
Where is this begging? Who is begging for Halo Wars 3? 100 out of 100,000 people? No one's begging for Gears 5, no one was begging for Halo 6 - the franchises that deserve sequels, get them.
If a game doesn't sell, or isn't successful critically, a sequel isn't always likely. Publishers aren't in the business of throwing money away.
Sadly most fans don't like the games usually expect for Halo, Gears, and Forza, but that's changing tho
Personally i think it's time to build new franchises if a game sells well instead of trying to make a sequel to something older.
Yeah that's sad, any game deserves a second chance to improve. Killing a game of the first try just makes things harder.
