Playstation brand the only gaming console that is worth buying no matter what time of its life cycle is ;)

mikeslemonade2134d ago

No it’s a good time to trade the console in before the PS5 gets announced.

MasterCornholio2134d ago

@Mikes

You can't trade the console in if your haven't bought it yet.

Now is a good time to buy ps3

VenomUK2134d ago (Edited 2134d ago )

Inexperienced commentary for stating incorrect information. This is NOT the final stage of the PS4’s lifecycle. There is over one year to go until the PS5’s purported November 2020 release. However Sony will keep manufacturing the PS4 for at least 3+ years after that because it will be a budget entry console for new gamers and some international markets.

rainslacker2134d ago

@Mike

A year is a long time to go without a PS to play my games on....especially with my backlog and games yet to come

mikeslemonade2134d ago

There’s no more new games that are good. Tlou will be on PS5, Bully, FF7, Death stranding all will be on PS5.

nowitzki20042134d ago

Mike you are the GOAT troll, you do this for free. You are unbelievable, how many years now how you been trolling? and you havent let your foot of the gas 1 bit. Simply incredible.. Dont ever stop... Keep playing Crackdown 3 and telling us how horrible PS is. I dont know how you do it, you are very determined.

Livingthedream2134d ago

It really is the best time to sell your PS4, you stand to make more money from it now, than if you wait for the ps5 to release.

Knightofelemia2134d ago (Edited 2134d ago )

At Mikeslemonade

Why trade in the console you will get low balled at Gamestop and down the road most likely kick yourself in the ass and regret trading the system in if you missed out on some great titles on the PS4 that you haven't played yet and want to play.

mikeslemonade2132d ago

Hahaha you guys now think I don’t have a PS4. I bought launch PS4 and then traded it in and bought PS Pro.

PS is great but you do want healthy competition to help us the consumer. Wish for dominance and we will take it in the ass

Rude-ro2134d ago

This gen had no competition and the PlayStation base did not “take it in the a$$”.
It depends on the definition of “competition”... and Microsoft is more of marketing, membership, partnership type of competition.
Seriously.
Their place in last gen was buying exclusives..
Sony fans did kind of take it in the “a$$” per having to pay to play online so that Sony can earn the money Microsoft did.
Sony had to outbid for third party content to compete with Microsoft’s deals last gen and this gen that locked third party games like mass effect, gears of war, and titanfall exclusively. Or timed timed exclusive like tomb raider.
This means less money for in house, second party support.
Sony has to spend more money towards advertising to compete with Microsoft’s media partnerships that dominated last gen.
All good stuff for a competitive product... but not rewarding to consumers with a gaming product.

"This gen had no competition and the PlayStation base did not “take it in the a$$”."

Miss my free online. I agree that I didn't take it in the ass, but that's only because I refuse to cough up the money, so I played the vast majority of MP games on PC now. If you think paying for online this gen got you a better deal then you're deluded.

Reefskye2134d ago

@TK-66 Indeed adding sub fee to play online is what made me give up on consoles apart from the few exclusives Sony offer, be the first time I never had more than one PlayStation in the house and the first time I never played it online, even on the PS2 I played online, was a bad move on sonys part adding a fee to access your games online content. The whole "security" is just a false line as many platforms offer free services on PC and have better protection against DDoS, Sony added it because they know just like Microsoft most people who own a PlayStation will be forced to buy it making up much more free revenue for them. Just like WoW makes store mounts most people hate them but the few ppl who buy them make them a fortune, this is just a tatic to block a feature 90% of the PlayStation user base uses then taking it away and basically forcing them to pay. No thanks Sony or Microsoft. I always had consoles and PC, since PS4 pc had been my main platform

TK-662134d ago (Edited 2134d ago )

That moment where you forget the Vita existed.

bluefox7552134d ago

This has been my experience for most of my life as a gamer, at least post-SNES.

quent2134d ago

You could only state that fact by owning all of the console's to come up with such a claim, if so then you're comment would be false either way

DarXyde2134d ago

I can't say I would ever recommend buying a Playstation at launch.

MoonConquistador2133d ago

Yet don't provide a single reason why not.

Thanks for your informative input.

Next.

DarXyde2133d ago

MoonConquistador,

Want reasons? Sure. Playstation consoles are always "eventually great". The software portfolio is always lacking in the beginning, which is understandable and I don't fault them for it. Takes time for the games to come. I have also never played a Playstation console with a fully operational online mode in the beginning. Neither PS3 nor PS4 were stable online experience in the beginning. PS4 was missing a lot of features at launch, among them DLNA which its predecessor had.

Buying Playstation at its premiere price with limited exclusive or compelling software doesn't really seem like it is worth it in my opinion, but that's just me. I would rather wait until there are 1-2 killer apps. I think Playstation is always a safe bet EVENTUALLY, but not in the early days.

There's your answer.

Kribwalker2135d ago

if you don’t have a PS4 now, why waste the money on one when next year a more powerful one is coming out that will play the games that are out now.

Silly gameAr2135d ago

Why ask questions that you already know the answer to?

IRetrouk2134d ago (Edited 2134d ago )

Price, quality and amount of available games, both new and used, massive online network of players, knowing it will still be supported even after the ps5 releases, like every other playstation so far. Not everyone can afford day one new gen consoles.

WeAreLegion2134d ago

They can if they start saving now.

IRetrouk2134d ago

Not everyone can afford to do that though, with rent, Bill's, taxes and other things like food and drink, it's hard for some. I'm fortunate but understand not everyone is, some people just cant afford 350-400 quid on a brand new system.

Abnor_Mal2134d ago

Sounds like a reversal of what others have said about the XBox. I see what you're trying to do there.

traumadisaster2134d ago

Exactly. If one has a hardware budget of several hundred bucks, it would wise to use that budget next year, rather than now.

Silly gameAr2134d ago (Edited 2134d ago )

Pretty sure the PS4 is going to be cheaper than the PS5 either way. Some people don't care about power or the best and newest hardware. They just want to play games for a good price.

MasterCornholio2134d ago (Edited 2134d ago )

You could always tap into the used market of you just want something that you can play games on until the new systems come out. For that I recommend the PS4 Slim they are relatively cheap used plus the platform has some excellent exclusives.

Another good idea is buying a Switch to allow Nintendo games to hold you over.

Anyways the PS4 is selling selling extremely so I'm sure plenty of people are still enjoying the system. It can't be such a bad decision to make of there's still fun to be had with the platform.

rainslacker2134d ago (Edited 2134d ago )

Why assume people who waited this long are going to be early adopters? Same goes for any console. If one waited, they arent those that are waited with baited breath for the next gen.

At least, generally speaking. I think a price drop is coming this holiday though, so if price is a concern, waiting a couple months may be more prudent.

OB1Biker2134d ago (Edited 2134d ago )

Not everyone wants the latest more expensive but just want a good console. Even after the ps5 is launched, people will still buy ps4s.
Especially if they dont have 4k tv

Christopher2134d ago (Edited 2134d ago )

Perhaps similar reason to why I bought an Xbox One X this year rather than waiting until next year? I'm likely only going to upgrade one at the start of next gen so why not buy the one now I don't have and enjoy those games now while next year I buy the other latest console to play their games on?

DarXyde2133d ago (Edited 2133d ago )

Because some people are budget gamers and remain one generation behind? PS5's library is bigger, but PS4's library is available now, it is cheaper, and you can get a ton of used games for less.

The cost of entry is lower and can be obtained at any time.
Did you think this comment through, or are you just trolling?

PhoenixUp2135d ago

PS4 really should have a price cut to $200-$250 by now

SamPao2134d ago

The Thing is, imagine they bring out the ps5 and the price of the ps4 is still the same, and you can play all the games, its easier to bring people over to the nextgeneration instead of having a cheaper ps4 from last generation.
They should keep the price to have a smoother transition.
at least thats my opinion.

PhoenixUp2134d ago

That makes absolutely no sense

rainslacker2134d ago

It probably would have, but if demand remains at the current price, and there is no big competitive reason to do so, theyll maximize profits for as long as possible. I think a permanent price drop will come for the holidays though. I assume if I keep making this prediction at various time frames over the years, then eventually I'll be right.

Vits2134d ago

Every console is pretty worth to get in it's final years. Because not only you will be getting the last revision of the hardware, you will pay less for the console itself and will be able to find good deals for the games.

Tapani2134d ago (Edited 2134d ago )

Yes! I'm starting to think like this the older I get. I have less time to game, and I'm thinking of not actually buying a PS5 immediately just because it's the next best thing. If I was in my early 20s or 30s, I'd probably consider getting it at launch. However, if there is a PS5 Pro at launch and it does 4K native on PS4 games, and it is extremely quiet, I might get tempted. It's strange but for me nowadays the noise levels, heat and power draw are bigger than the smoothest of them all graphics. Let's see if the hype changes my mind!

traumadisaster2134d ago (Edited 2134d ago )

I adopted that philosophy this past gen, I bought both on release day but realized what you are saying and sold one. I still had ps360 games to play and 600 games on steam.

I kept the x1 due to ryse and powershot golf and the ps4 didn’t have any exclusives in the first year that I needed. Now I’ll get a ps5 and buy $5 ps4 games upgraded on new hardware while I wait on ps5 games to trickle in and buy them on sale a year later too.

rainslacker2134d ago

I sometimes think like that, but consoles I know I'm going to get, and I can be a bit of a tech junkie. I never really feel that I made a bad choice because of price ir build quality, although in a couple.cases over the years, i thought itd be nice to have some feature that came out later on revisions.

Tapani2134d ago (Edited 2134d ago )

I get what you (traumadistaster and rainslacker) are saying! For me, it's the fan noise mainly and the overall bad build quality of new consoles that stresses me out. I really don't like playing RDR2 on PS4P, even after cleaning it, due to the fan noise. I've got mid-end hifi setup and I've designed my gaming around it playing at low volumes. Secondly, as I don't have time to play much anymore, I find it unreasonable to buy expensive games at release. My schedule is not designed around gaming, it's designed around work / family.

A bit beside the point, I am a big tech junkie myself as well! To demonstrate it: I just bought a new NUC Hades Canyon at $950 incl. 1tb nvme m.2, 16gt DDR4, and Vega M GH. Took me a whole weekend of tinkering (am on holidays!) to find the right balance with it, eventually underclocking GPU about 10% to keep it dead silent, adjusting fan speed and CPU frequency in bios etc. Runs 1440p / 1080p games 30-60fps with a mix of high/ultra settings, and is smaller than the original Wii. Might buy an eGPU to accompany it next year, if I can find a silent 4K monster. This kind of stuff is more important to me nowadays.

Cat Quest III Is Heading to Apple Devices on August 8

"A big part of being a cat pirate is sailing the seas and traveling from place to place. What better way to do just that than by playing Cat Quest III on the go? Soon, aspiring kitty pirates will be able to enjoy the charming cat-themed action RPG on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. That should be a purrfect option for gamers who don't have the game on Switch or Steam Deck. The iOS version will still support 2-player local co-op, thankfully," says Co-Optimus.
