Enhance it for Playstation 5

Elda2093d ago

More than likely P5:Royal will be for the PS5.

CaptainCook2093d ago

You probably need to repurchase the game on PlayStation 5.

Persona 5: 4k Edition

AmUnRa2093d ago

Ore use the PS4 version, and perhaps you will play it on your PS5 with a 4K 60fps patch😉

nitus102093d ago

Persona 5 is on my "to-do list' however, it is quite impressive to play a game that runs at 60 fps (eg. Dark Souls II) even if the graphics are only 1080p and no HDR.

Since all PS4's do support HDR if implemented by the game (eg. Horizon Zero Dawn) the output can be impressive when your PS4 is connected to a 4K HDR TV/monitor. Even if the graphics (eg. standard PS4) is only 1080p. http://www.pushsquare.com/n...

My order of importance for any game is 1) High stable frame rate, 2) HDR then 3) decent graphics. Obviously, 4K or better would be great but I only have a standard PS4 and an LG 31.5" HDR, 4K monitor which is definitely not top of the line but it does upscale really well and if the game supports HDR it will automatically select HDR. With some games, you have to configure this and then auto HDR selection works.

Silly gameAr2093d ago

I guess they think it's some kind of flex or something.

stupidusername2093d ago

Persona 5’s graphics isn’t really much of a looker either, it’s the slick menu and effects design that makes it cool.

rainslacker2093d ago

Do the graphics and game play of persona really require it to be at 4K and 60fps?

Generally, I prefer the softer feel to animated art that tends to get lost when made at high resolutions and modern day animation techniques. Hand drawn stuff looks better at higher resolutions so long as the coloring is done well. CGI though tends to look really sharp and less natural when it comes to cartoon style graphics...which anime would be.

The fps I think is pointless as it's not exactly what I'd call a fast moving screen in the game play.

starchild2093d ago

Higher framerate makes every game look and feel better to play, I don't care what genre it is. The idea that only fast paced games benefit is a myth.

TK-662093d ago

This comment reminds me of when a Kotaku writer said they prefer 30 fps because it looks more cinematic.

Reefskye2093d ago

I can't even play games at 30 FPS it drives me crazy after being 60 and above for more than 10 years it really hard to not notice 30 FPS now.

Unspoken2093d ago

You have to be joking me. Can you provide some examples?

rainslacker2093d ago

"The idea that only fast paced games benefit is a myth."

Is it? Because unless it's a fast paced game, I can't tell any difference, and neither can most people. But agree to disagree.

@TK

Kotaku are idiots. I don't think it feels more cinematic, I just feel that a game like Persona, which isn't really a fast paced game on the graphics side of things, benefits from having a higher frame rate. Doesn't hurt, but no major benefit. Given the choice, I'd take better image quality over twice the number of frames.

@Reef

That's too bad for you then. Company I work for did tests to see if people could tell the difference on a bunch of various graphics things, and most couldn't tell the difference unless it was a faster style game.

@Unspoken

Example of what?

How sharpening a scene can make it look worse? Best and most distinct example I can think of is Valkyria Chronicles. The PS3 version looked great. They 1080p remaster everything looked off because it was so sharp. VC4 looked better because it was originally designed to be 1080p, but it still lost some of that hand drawn feel with the increased resolution. It's a distinct art style in that game, which lends itself well to exemplifying what I'm talking about.

Art like anime though tends to suffer from jaggies in poly graphics at lower resolution which is more distracting than higher resolution sharpness, so it's kind of a wash I guess.

Unspoken2093d ago

Ok, thanks for detailing the differences. So when it is mastered in a particular resolution it has the potential to look askew when not remastered properly or simply up-scaled. Totally agree with you there.

But when the CGI or cel-shading is produced with the resolution/fps in mind it will look amazing. imo

rainslacker2093d ago

@Unspoken

Most certainly. Original source has a lot to do with it. Same is true with any graphics or images(like movies and TV). It usually requires touching up when things are upscaled. A really good example would be modern 4K TV's often clean up older content, but sometimes it looks so sharp, and the added frames can give it a kind of video feel, as opposed to a film look. If that isn't taken into account when producing the master, then it can feel off.

My thoughts on the issue are of course subjective, and others may feel differently, and I'm fine with that.

Would prefer a legitimate version on Steam. Don't get me wrong I appreciate emulation but would prefer ports officially done by Atlus since I want to support them.

maelstromb2093d ago

That's sort of the idea though. A lot of publishers either choose exclusivity or never bring their games to the PC market, and it's truly a shame. I guess I've just never understood the artificial barrier publishers/developers fabricate between console and PC. Somehow it always comes back to the tired argument/theory which supports piracy is much greater on the PC platform and so it justifies their decision to ignore the platform altogether, but if you ask me it's a bogus one. Simply put, if someone wants to pirate a game, they are going to do it no matter what... or, like in this case, pirate it and emulate it. Primary console publishers need to first stop holding back from the PC market and secondly, need to incentivize the purchase of their game through smart marketing just like they must in the console market. But if they choose to never bring their game to the PC platform, then either way you slice it, it's a missed opportunity to satisfy those seeking to legitimately support them and lost revenue.

With the recent success of many older, remastered JPRGs on Steam, even such as Disgaea, you would think it would be an enticing platform for Atlas to finally bring the Persona series... I guess only time will tell.

Giblet_Head2093d ago (Edited 2093d ago )

It's always weird hearing console fanboys go on about piracy, but more than likely have bought a used game once in their life. The logic is no different, if not worse since neither publisher nor the developer see that money, but a company like Gamestop with it's scummy practices that's kept afloat by them does.

I will never understand the issue people have with emulation as well. They'd rather leave archiving history and backwards compatibility to propriety hardware with an expiration and shelf life. History within this industry has already proven leaving preservation to publishers is not wise, especially when preservation for them is determined around financial incentive, so it's very selective. PT is one example of a publisher going out of their way to erase history. As it is with films, even some games have been lost to time. Emulation is the only absolute to preserving software.

It'd be a wise investment to those who disagree to watch this for further insight from within the industry itself

Developing for a platform that has almost identical hardware (the only difference being Pro and One X now) is much easier than developing for thousands of different combinations of hardware and software that is PC. Not saying they shouldn't attempt to, they absolutely should considering the popularity of P5, but there is definitely a bigger challenge especially if your team has no experience in PC development.

Unspoken2093d ago

Well, you are supposed to have a legitimate copy for the dump, there for supporting the devs.

In this case the dev isn't supporting Steam or PC so we only have this work around to allow consumers to continue enjoying the content they purchased even if their PS3 goes EOL.

maelstromb2092d ago

Agreed. To take things a step further, I'm still perplexed as to why with the games medium (such as a collector's edition set) we aren't given a separate digital code/copy of the game... If you purchase a Blu-Ray movie, you get a digital copy of the film in addition to the physical disc, and yet, here we are - 2019 - last I checked, and game publishers choose to ignore this little trend. I'm primarily talking about Collector's or Limited Edition version of games here. But more often than not even when you buy a physical copy, it's either a digital code inside a DVD case or a disc with part of the game's setup files requiring the user to go out and download another 20-30+GB to complete the installation anyways.

So for example, if I'm a big fan of a game, I will go out of my way to purchase the collector's/limited edition version. However, often times collector's edition versions are only published for consoles even when it has simultaneous release on PC. Now, I own a PS4, but I prefer my PC. So, what often ends up happening is that I will purchase a collector's edition of the game for say PS4 (and not want to open it, for ya know, collectability-sake) but then I think, I'm not going to spend another $50-60+ to repurchase the same game again in digital form for the PC... thus, I procure it by other means, and this whole idea is absolutely ridiculous. I've already given my dollars to support the publisher/developer and yet if I actually want to keep an unopened collector's copy of a "Collector's Edition," I have no means to play said game without opening the contents or repurchasing the same game on my platform of choice. It's a naggy complaint, I get it, but it's sort of dumb on the part of the pubs/devs, in my opinion. Some have wised up a little and sold CE versions which don't contain the game (which is fantastic) because you get to choose the physical version of the platform of your choice AND you don't have to open the CE version. That's one way to do it, but I'd like to see things go the way of an extra digital copy with CE/LE versions of games. IndieBox was smart about this point and they pulled it off exactly as I'm describing...

djplonker2093d ago (Edited 2093d ago )

"The PS4 version doesn’t support 4K or 60 FPS thus making the PC emulated version the better option here"

Only until p5R comes out then ps4 will have the best version.

starchild2093d ago

Because he's an immature fanboy and he doesn't want anybody else playing "his" games, especially not with better graphics and framerates, so he lashes out at all PC gamers.

There's nothing wrong with playing your own games through emulation.

King_Noctis2093d ago

Because of emulation? You are kidding yourself if that’s what you think.

Kados2093d ago

Mind repeating that in some dialect of human?

SegaGamer2093d ago

Were you drunk when you wrote this?

TK-662093d ago

If you want Atlus to get the money maybe demand them to release it on PC instead then?

Jon_Targaryen2093d ago

I wish, Id buy each Persona if they ever did, just like I did with Catherine when that got released on Steam.

We desperately need Motorstorm back. Evolution is no more though and this makes me sad

Cacabunga63d ago

Sly Thieves in Time
Stay the Party
Portal 2
Dj Hero
Demon’s Souls
God of war Ascension

rudero63d ago

2 of those games got railed through the “gaming media” during release.
Sly and god of war.
Both of which were fantastic games.

Cacabunga62d ago

Ascension is VERY underrated. Remake please!

Venoxn4g63d ago

Decent list.. I would put the Castle Crashers as well..

1Victor63d ago

Yes it’s a decent list of popular games with a heavy hand on FPS and no Warhawk or Starhawk 2 of the best games (not sale wise) on ps3.
I would buy a Starhawk again even if it didn’t have a graphics upgrade hell I would even take a new one with micro transactions 😱🤯

Profchaos63d ago

I've noticed a recent nostalgia for the PS3 and I don't get it for me it's been my least favourite generation to date and I've been gaming since the NES I just feel like the ambition of the developers outweighed the capabilities of the consoles so I remember lots of games running in the lower end of 20fps range and I remember for the first time ever actually disliking the duelshock 3 and it's curved triggers

Sure there were some standouts and great games but that's the only gen I switched entirely to PC gaming

darthv7263d ago

Maybe the recent nostalgia is because pretty much all of its games are trapped on that console. People want to play them on more modern hardware. hell... if XB can do it then so can Sony. there are competent emulators out there that can run on PS4/5 hardware but Sony just wont let them become official... why is that?

If we are talking least favorite generations (personally) then this one is certainly mine. i had more fun playing 8th, 7th and 6th gen stuff than 9th. And it isnt like i dont have access to do so... the heavy hitters just havent shown up anywhere close to those previous gens. The few here and there just doesnt cut it compared to the likes of constant good games that showed up in 6th, 7th and 8th gen. hell.... I'll even throw in 5th gen has been better than this one.

Profchaos63d ago

I tend to agree there's lots of amazing games locked to the PS3 like GTA IV or mgs 4 but then again my issue was never with the content the PS3 had but rather it's performance many other people have said the PS3 felt like it couldn't walk and chew bubblegum at the same time using PSN and downloading a game could take a few minutes to just start a download.

I typically don't worry all that much about performance I've never had a problem with games that run at 30 but games like crysis 2, Skyrim are good examples where the performance was so unstable you would never even touch the top of the frame cap and the hitching was worse than say Goldeneye on the n64

I think emulation is more than possible on the ps5 though it's just that Sony has no incentive to rush it's development it will likely be a ps6 feature if it ever happens at all.

But yeah the 9th gen has been so bad from a content perspective thats a given I see constant articles where people are frequently expressing their disappointment around the industry as a whole right now to much live service competition that sinks longstanding studios and consumes Devs time less ambition and games cost so much to make they have to play it safe.

The 5th gen was easily better than the 9th we had some all time greats crash, Spyro, Tony hawk, mgs, Mario,64, Goldeneye, Mario kart 64 the list goes on. The 5th gave us a new dimension and I remember being blown away by how much more open gaming had become the 4th gen with the mega drive and SNES was great and very easy to still revisit some of the greatest games of all time came out like earthbound, secret of mana, sonic , Mario world etc but saving our games was still not a standard function or a given so gaming was still evolving but it was very impressive to see some of the tricks Devs used like dithering to give us new experiences those earlier gens limitations bred innovation.

Michiel198963d ago

if XB can do it so can sony? I didn't know xbox had a cell processor in their older consoles, that's the reason why ps3 was so cool, but also the reason why games are hostage there and no, xbox did nothing similar even though their backward compatbility is good, they always had a similar architecture to their consoles.

darthv7262d ago

Sorry Michael... I guess you missed the obvious part where i said there are already emulators out that do this. and that is what XB is doing... emulators for OG and 360 games. Its why the full slate is not BC on XBO/Series.

The list is missing Folklore.
