Evo 2019's Tekken 7 Snake reveal was a 'little joke,' DLC isn't planned

Evo 2019: Snake DLC isn't coming to Tekken 7, despite the event's organizers seemingly dropping a teaser that the Metal Gear Solid protagonist would be on his way.

I’d honestly be more upset if they did include him because of this stunt and outcry, and completely ignore Kazuma Kiryu who’s been on a high demand for a good while.

Haven’t Metal Gear fans suffered enough?

Would love to see Snake in that new gorgeous Guilty Gear game though.

Anyway, fighting games are mostly dead to me. The release incomplete games at full retail price, followed by seasons of DLC greed with extra characters.

Haven't picked up SF5 because of the DLC.
Haven't picked up Tekken because of the DLC.
haven't picked up SoulCalibur because of the DLC.

Picked up some other fighting games, but only once they were complete and/or on sale, like Injustice 2, Guilty Gear Rev 2, Dragon Ball FighterZ, etc.

Unfortunately, fighting games are perfect for DLC as characters, stages and modes are all things that could be added that way. Companies have noticed this and see dollar signs. It could be worse though. Look at what Capcom did before DLC.

Tekken 7 in particular pisses me off not because of DLC, but because of how it’s been handled. The team behind it added a whopping 12 new characters (three times more than the most the usually add), and in exchange kicked a bunch of existing characters off the roster and go on record saying we can’t possibly expect them to find enough space for all of them on the increasingly large roster. Yeah, you don’t get to complain about that when you add 12 characters.

Then they thankfully announce DLC, but turn around and use one slot each time for a novelty guest character, thus limiting the number even further of actual Tekken characters who come back. All the while Harada basically says all characters are held at gunpoint and their continued presence in the series is tied to “how much we support them”, a fancy term for looking exclusively at statistics of what characters online and tournament players use to basically determine what characters even those of us who just play offline can have access to.

I have to get Tekken 7 eventually. The above is why I’ve boycotted it thus far though.
