Life is Strange: Before the Storm is bad game with bad writing and characters.

Yui_Suzumiya2125d ago

One of the best PS4 games I've played. Original is still the best though as well as the #2 best game of all-time.

coolbeans2125d ago

Ah man! You beat me to it. :P

It's a great coincidence to see that pic + title pop up.

-Foxtrot2125d ago

Cringe worthy dialogue

I don’t get how any one likes these games

coolbeans2125d ago

Yeah, yeah. There's no one who's shy about those moments of seeing thirty-somethings trying to capture millennial high-schoolers. But at least Season 1 has heart and ambition. It's a game containing an apocalyptic doomsday, time travel, and some dark material but ultimately centers it on a coming of age tale for the two leads. There's more going on there that's worth exploring.

-Foxtrot2125d ago (Edited 2125d ago )

It's not that it's just everyone acts its the best thing ever, same thing that happened with Walking Dead

People putting it up there with story telling found in games like Bioshock, Uncharted, The Last of Us, Mass Effect etc but at least at the end of the day those other games were full on AAA games where you got full on involved with the story, not just watch, point and click on repeat.

Yui_Suzumiya2123d ago

Best. Game. Ever

Needs no further explanation

coolbeans2119d ago (Edited 2119d ago )

Oh man...I still have time?!?!? I honestly didn't intend to have this last-minute type of response to this. I did know about your 2nd reply earlier, but it fell to the wayside in favor of other stuff. Anyways...

-"It's not that it's just everyone acts its the best thing ever, same thing that happened with Walking Dead"

Hold up! Your initial stance about this was people simply "liking" the Life is Strange games, not going over the moon about them. I fall into the former category, not the latter. And bringing The Walking Dead (TellTale) into this muddies the water since I hold Season 1 in higher regard than any LiS season (so far).

-"People putting it up there with story telling found in games like Bioshock, Uncharted, The Last of Us, Mass Effect etc..."

You're not really winning me over with that list, especially when some of those series have wildly disparate levels of quality writing to them. Uncharted 2 & 4? Sure, those are ones I really enjoy. 1 & 3? Eh...1 isn't all that great and 3 can be as much of a shambling mess as Before The Storm in regards to plot contrivances and characterization. Mass Effect 3's bad writing isn't just limited to the ending too. It takes updated endings and solid DLC to actually get close to previous games' level.

-"...but at least at the end of the day those other games were full on AAA games where you got full on involved with the story, not just watch, point and click on repeat."

By this rationale, should we dispute people liking old well-written adventure games with moon logic puzzles? The point-'n-click adventure genre just has a new subgenre that trims the unwanted fat. Plus, LiS did utilize time manipulation to complete certain tasks so that's not all you do there.

EDIT: Please feel free to comment here and jump to PM if the timer runs out. I didn't mean to handle the convo like that. I apologize for that.

King_Noctis2125d ago

Uh no. If you play LiS season 1 then Before the Storm hits home really hard. The game is very emotional.

coolbeans2125d ago

Speaking as someone who's been with LiS since the beginning, I think Before The Storm has some godawful writing. There's a light smattering of emotional, effective scenes to be found, but are dwarfed by everything else. A mess from top to bottom.

King_Noctis2125d ago

Well let just agree to disagree then. I love everything about LiS season 1 and BtS. LiS season 2 on the on the other hand sucks really hard.

josh-eh2125d ago

Completely Disagree. Not as incredible as Season 1 but still worth playing if you liked the original!

Yui_Suzumiya2123d ago

Farewell episode is my favorite of any LiS

Bloodborne has all of these beaten if you're willing to put the work in to uncover it. I liked the new GoW a lot but it was mainly for the satisfying gameplay, apart from the end credits scene and some of the opening moments I wasn't very much affected by its storytelling.

Torment Tides of Numenera has the best story this gen imo. The gameplay will make it a chore for a lot of people though.

Stay-Toasty2125d ago

My god, you're right about that. I absolutely LOVE Torment: ToN but have never played anything like it before i picked it up, so I didnt know exactly what I was getting into. I had just heard it had a great story. The lore and the world are AMAZING, but sometimes it'll take me like 20-25 minutes just to exhaust one random character's dialog tree. Feels like I'll never finish it.

gangsta_red2125d ago

"The gameplay will make it a chore for a lot of people though."

Amen to that! I stopped because it was going nowhere

It's going to be $80 on the Switch 2.

PRIMORDUS6d ago

Or free if you torrent both of them on PC lol.

fsfsxii6d ago

You could afford video games if you stopped commenting asinine comments here and got a job instead of stealing.

anast6d ago

"You could afford video games if you stopped commenting asinine comments here"

People have cellphones. They can work and squeeze in the 15 seconds to post a comment.

OtterX7d ago

Good sign that the PS5/XBSX version is coming soon at least.

neutralgamer19927d ago

Buy them when they are on sale. We just shouldn't be surprised anymore by prices hikes and or new games costing more. Simply speak with your wallets if you want these companies to pay attention. That's the only language they understand

raWfodog6d ago

The vast majority of the games that I buy are never at retail, always on sale. And usually it'll have to be a good sale too. At least 40% off. All this talk of increasing game prices rolls off my back.

neutralgamer19926d ago

same i like to pay $25-30 at most and even than closer to $25

Wh1teLightning7d ago

I don’t live in the UK and this makes no sense whatsoever. These games have been out for years shouldn’t they be going down?!? That’s not how you attract new players.

The_Blue7d ago

They don’t care about us. It’s the newer generation they are after.

QuantumMechanic6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

I think this is a very apt statement. Game publishers appear increasingly to view their IP like books, music, and cinema---evergreen content that can be reprinted throughout its lifespan (until it enters the public domain). It's actually very reasonable.

CrimsonWing697d ago

So this is how it works now? Old games get a price increase? This sh*t is completely getting out of hand now.

If Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn't have Red Dead Online on Switch 2, keep it

Red Dead Redemption 2 could be excellent on Nintendo Switch 2, but it's pointless without bringing Red Dead Online along for the ride.

Not just RDR Online, but also cross save progress. I'm not starting over w my nearly 200 hours of the online. I will however consider picking it up again if I can have a purely portable version of it.

OtterX8d ago

Lol, people really don't want me to continue my enjoyment of the online I see. 🤷‍♂️

I find it relaxing, living off the land, hunting/fishing. I'd legit play it again portable if I had it available in continuation of my progress. Not asking for others to enjoy it too.

tagzskie6d ago

legit question, is steam deck not supporting rdr online? because portable gaming is years old in pc community

OtterX6d ago

@tagzskie I don't own a Steam Deck. I have a Switch 2 ordered. Easy answer.

mkis0079d ago

Can we get a 60 fps patch on ps5 already or is it too much to ask?

Milk...get your milk...and so much more. Really when you release the same games in three editions over 15 years it's amazing how much money, and the amount of sales you earn. It's amazing how no one can compete.

Mr_cheese12d ago

To be fair, no many companies could release the same game over and over. They've earned that whether we agree or not

DarXyde11d ago

I mean Resident Evil 4 has had longer legs and still hasn't done anything like this.

Profchaos11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

GTA v isn't the only game that's released three consoles generations running but nothing has sold those numbers including GTA San Andreas which is now 4 console generations deep.

anast11d ago

Looks like a 2040 release for GTA6

gold_drake11d ago

thats insane right?
absolutely insane

rlow111d ago

No surprising considering that it’s been on every major platform and store.

I decided to look up the longest and most sold games list. To my surprise Tetris has takes the top spot.
