Jordan Mychal Knows Nothing About The Order 1886 Sequel

Earlier today, reports had come in stating that the Order 1886 would indeed be getting a sequel. This was according to Sucker Punch's own narrative writer, Jordan Mychal, who stated during a recent podcast from what he had heard, Ready at Dawn were going to develop it. This statement has since been clarified, with the writing saying he knows nothing about the sequel.

Really hoping Sony gives it another chance, it may not have been a great game, but it certainly wasn't a horrible one. The series deserves a second chance IMO

Regardless of some flaws,,I loved the game. The characters were interesting & likable, and the setting was a nice change. There’s so much potential here, I believe.

There's a lot of potential with The Order 1886; it was a good game with an interesting setting and tone. Was the cover-shooter game play the most compelling ever? No, but it was a solid shooter with a cool premise.

I'd like to see sequel.

I’m glad to hear you loved it too. The cliffhanger...that was something. And I agree. Still one of the best looking games overall this generation. The artistry, was fantastic. Speaking of the visuals, the character models are incredible, but especially in some lighting (like the train tunnels with Isabelle & Galahad) I used photo mode when she walked past my lantern, and the detail on her face & hair, still unbelievable. Same with one I captured of that Indian woman in the tunnels.

Yes, this is the one game from the last twenty years that deserves an iteration more than any others. They've had great player feedback and could fix the issues people had with the game. I'd love to see a sequel to this.

I thought the gun play itself was really well done. Cover was not amazing, but functional. Probably would have been better game play if the AI wasn't so scripted.

As far as I know the IP belongs to Sony so the sequel doesnt have to be developed by Ready at Dawn though I would like for them to have another crack at it.

Yep, it’s still gorgeous as ever. Definitely still one of the best looking games this generation. R@D have a super impressive engine & their team of artists did a remarkable job bringing those characters to life. The beard and hair still amazes me especially.

usually when a company is hiring devs it's to either start building a game or to finish one off so it's ready for launch on a set date.

Yeah, I recall some of that. I'm just saying he doesn't have to say anything at all to address the rumors or questions. Whether this is a lie, or the truth, he isn't obligated to answer the question.

I am one of those people who would like a sequel, so if it's happening, then I"m all for it. I'm just not going to be disappointed if it doesn't happen, because I'm not setting up any expectations. Game had a troubled launch, and was obviously incomplete. Sony seemed to have washed their hands of it, and the dev went to do their own thing.

I think he may have been clarifying the talk about the Order 2, but I don't recall that talk being them implying the game was in production, but you know how the internet can change things real quick, so maybe he felt it necessary to clarify.

Just goes to show a great story can build a more loyal fan base than great graphics or great gameplay.

this is a fictional statement. gameplay centric games have an unbelievably larger fanbase and loyalty. just look at multiplayer games, mario, metroid etc this list would take years to finish. 90% of all the highest rated games of all time are mostly gameplay centred. put all of the story based games combined and they wouldnt even reach marios kneecaps in fanbase size or sales. and thats not just an opinion ;).

Not sure the ones you bring up are good examples considering they existed for decades longer and have fanbase built up on machines prior to more story-centric games became more common and popular.

Uncharted became popular after just two games. TLoU after just that one game.

Having said that, jwillj2k4 is probably way off thinking that The Order truly has a large fanbase considering it's rarely mentioned each year in general. If you want a fanbase for a game that they desire a sequel, look at something like Syphon Filter or Splinter Cell. The fans of those games every year are clamoring for new games.

I dont think the people that liked the order and would like a sequel are as rabid as some other games fans can be. I also agree that there is no movement for any kind of sequal or the numbers may not be as large as some other games.

But you have to admit, at every opportunity, many people will express their desire for a sequel, which isnt commonplace.

I dont knie if that would translate to real world sales, but the first game did reasonably well, and a 2nd could make it a valuable franchise if it's done right...and actually releases complete

Obviously I’m not talking about sales... that’s the whole point of my statement. I’m talking about years waiting in anticipation for the next installment of a series. Metroid doesn’t count. It grew its fan base in the 8 and 16 bit era for having great gameplay AND a great story. Mario doesn’t count either. There are so many variations of Mario (Mario rpg, paper Mario, Mario party) that you cannot narrow down its success to one game. Ill put it this way, there are people still hoping for tidus to return in a new final fantasy. You think people will be holding out that long for some multiplayer game?

1886 had a good concept but just lacked fun and interesting gameplay. A sequel would do it justice. Definitely a good example on why Gamefly is such a life saver this gen.

Playing this through again, taking some screencaps. Really like how the photo mode let's you go out of bounds, the game just has so much detail. Anywho it sold well enough and a sequel could give em a chance to really improve on its short comings. Plus the story definitely deserves to be continued such a unique take on the Knights of the Round Table.

I liked how they allowed you to go out’ve bounds, but I didn’t at the same time. I didn’t like how it allowed you to see corners cut/ugly parts of the game (like in a film, you wouldn’t see, because the camera would never allow you to notice it) but regardless, allowing you to go out of bounds certainly allowed for some even more impressive picture taking, which I appreciated.

I want a sequel on PS5 . The enemies will be able to have detail from a distance instead of a blurry face and most importantly they will be able to have vastly improved AI and variable types of enemies . At least finish the story or make a trilogy . I’ll buy it just fix the flaws the first game had .

I would be shocked if Sony said no to a sequel for this gem. Solid premise (loved the hook at the end), solid look, and the mechanics worked. Yes, they can improve upon it, but overall 1886 worked well.
This game got shunned before it was released. Then selectively hammered, especially by those of “the other community” who were just jealous. I remember well.
Days Gone is the more current example of the same type of situation. The Order needs to return.

This game had horrible A.I. Especially with the half breeds, some of the worst felt like a early 90's game, pointless collectibles. But had great art, good cover system, and the start of a good story although started to get heavy handed with adding the Vamps at the end. One of the worst PS4 exclusives. But I would still like to see the developer get a second chance.

My god, the graphics of that game...to this day this is still quite simply one of the very best looking games ever made, PC games included. It was one of those games that made me think "now that's why we buy new hardware!"
The drawback was the game's aspect ratio, which reminisced us in Europe of those horrible 50Hz games of yore with huge letterbox black bars, but no other game this gen has ever come close to replicating that graphical prowess. It had a good scenario, interesting characters, and a XIXth century London x Steampunk atmosphere that was quite unheard of to boot. If only the game had been endowed with a more fleshed out gameplay, with less Quick Time Events and more interactions in those breathtakingly gorgeous levels, if those levels had been wider and a bit more open, and if the game as a whole had been a bit longer, I'm quite certain there would've been a sequel a long time ago, as the game would've sold by the bucket loads.

Please please please, whoever is in charge , make it happen. We want a sequel to The Order 1886!
