I think his analysis is only accurate to Japan where at one point games really did only release exclusively on the PS3/4 or the 3DS. These days it's common to see JPN games on the Switch, PS4 and PC with a few exceptions like Daemon X Machina. Limiting yourself to a single platform now doesn't make much sense from a business perspective.

"If another company comes out with their own portable hybrid, then they’re not going to be able to compete with whatever Nintendo puts out next, because they’ve established this massive base."

Which is why it's unlikely we'll see another Sony handheld unfortunately :/

I think he recognizes that exclusivity isn't what it used to be. I took his point to be focused more on the benefits of exclusivity at launch more so than later on. I tend to agree with that line of thinking myself. I would be shocked if MS and Sony weren't planning a bunch of timed and out right exclusive 3rd party deals for at least the 1st year or two of next gen.

I don't know if anyone will try to copy Nintendo either. They might try to push streaming on mobile as an alternative though.

yes they need to rip off the joycons and do them much better

I'm sorry, the best selling console of this generation and market leader needs to learn what now?
I'm pretty sure 95k+ PS4 owners are quite happy with the huge number of quality first part exclusives.

Bigger hard drive, better graphics, more systems sold, more games... What can they learn beyond don't get a class action lawsuit about your shitty joysticks and party chat through a phone app...

Error on my part.

PlayStation would be in a pretty dire situation if they only sold 95 thousand units this generation.

badz1492165d ago

maybe they want Sony to also sell a bare-bone system which you need to buy lots of extra accessories for and instead of doing a slim version with all the functionalities of the original a couple of years later, strip its core features and call it "PS Lite" or something

Don't forget they've put a lot of these on gamepass and ps plus so you can add that money to it. Good to see Sega going strong

Playdead co-founder slammed with lawsuit as bitter row with co-founder escalates

Playdead co-founder Dino Patti is allegedly being sued by his former studio and business partner.
Patti was threatened with a lawsuit earlier this year after he posted a now-deleted LinkedIn post that shared an "unauthorized" picture of co-founder Arnt Jensen and discussed some of Limbo's development. Patti said Jensen demanded a little over $73,000 in "suitable compensation and reimbursement," adding that he had "repeatedly" had such letters over the last nine years.
