Dragon Quest Builders 2 is out now on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. It's an excellent game that offers a compelling combination of building, fighting, and crafting. But while the answer to "Should I pick this game up?" is an easy "Sure," things get a little stickier when you ask, "Which version should I get?"
From Nintendo Life: "Minecraft, eat your heart out. The second entry in Square Enix's adorable Dragon Quest spin-off series, Dragon Quest Builders 2, will be available for free for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers in Europe from tomorrow.
Nintendo of Europe made the announcement on Twitter earlier today. The free trial period opens from tomorrow until 26th April, so that gives you a whole week to build to your heart's content!"
Excellent game. Big improvement from the first one. One that made me want to complete the game and just goof around a lot more with my creations.
"Developed and Published by Square Enix. Dragon Quest Builders 2 was released on the 20th of December 2018 for the Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It is an action roleplaying sandbox game. It has you building in a fantasy land that is threatened by an evil cult. Can we build on this Dragon Quest Builders 2 review or will we crumble?" If your priority is performance PS4, if it's portability Switch... Unless there is some features that are unique to each version, this will be the answer 9/10 times...
This isnt really a demanding game so I would go with Switch just for the portability.
You probably won't be surprised to learn the Switch version runs at half the speed of the PlayStation 4 version. Admittedly, the difference is jarring when you go straight from the PlayStation 4 to the Switch, but once you get settled into playing in handheld mode for a while, you don't really notice the gap. I kept an eye out for significant frame rate drops when playing on the Switch, but I didn't notice any. I only played through the Furrowfield chapter on the Switch, however, so drops are possible later in the game. Even the PlayStation 4's frame rate occasionally dips a bit in the Moonbrooke Castle chapter, so that might be a problem area for the Switch too.
