Of course the effect will be significant on open world games however I'm more excited to see if devs will utilize this to dynamically load levels that feature different assets, mechanics, and systems in linear games.

500GB SSD is what I'm betting on, maybe a 1TB SSD but I doubt it. I really hope there's a secondary 2TB HDD or bigger to compensate that way you can move things back and forth based on what you're playing at the time.

As long as there not more than a minute I'm gnerally good with load times, however zero load times is also welcome I guess.

That person needs to think more out of the box. Yes, it will allow for much faster streaming levels, reducing memory and overhead but there are more things you can do with it and Playstation will probably push marketing by talking how devs are using it when they do the reveal.

Thing is, I'm a developer. I've worked at places big and small, just because someone is a developer doesn't mean they have thought of all possible ways any new technology can be used. Will see this with raytracing too as right now it's reflections, refractions, real-time global illumination but it can be used in many other ways. At the end of the day, we're just people with a bit more knowledge. The longer you've been in the industry, the more you learn like any other job. I worked with a triple A developer ~4 years ago and I got into a discussion with another very experienced programmer about Unreal Engine 4. He said it would be a nightmare to work with and developers won't use it. Of course now we know that's not the case.

We have that now with PCIE-4.0. But loading game levels with either PCIE-3.0 or 4.0 there is maybe a 1-2% difference.

It literally is not the same thing because no game has an ssd as a base requirement and definetly not a m2 nvme 3000mb/s ssd. No game uses the ssd for more than standard loading because it would require a set speed to build the game to take advantage of said speed.

Days Gone desperately needed this. The way it abruptly cuts to load screens before and after cutscenes was really jarring and broke the immersion for me.
