So ray tracing cheaper " high end "RTX,because not even someone owning a 1080ti is dying to spend money on RTX.

impet252172d ago

If you got a 1080ti why would you even think of upgrading to RTX. You should be good for like at least 2 or 3 more years. smh.

_SilverHawk_2172d ago (Edited 2172d ago )

I have aorus 1080ti extreme and I'm not upgrading to another video card until theres a card that can do 8k resolution with ray tracing at 60fps or so. That won't be happening for a while

mikeslemonade2172d ago

I upgrade every TI. 980ti, 1080ti, and 2080ti. I do it so I can sell the old ti for value.

bradfh2172d ago (Edited 2172d ago )

I haven't spent money on a gpu since my gtx 970 under $350 at retail in 2014 with my 2600k cpu. look like gaming is coming back going to wait for black friday this year until upgrading my computer.

Gwiz2172d ago (Edited 2172d ago )

That's what i'm saying lol,i'm saying that those buying the early RTX cards were better off waiting.
What the hell did you read?.

So ray tracing cheaper " High end RTX " meaning that there's cheaper high end RTX now
not even someone owning a 1080ti dreams about spending money on a RTX2080ti

pleasuretokill2172d ago

Nvidia thinks that people actually care about ray tracing. For me to care about ray tracing, they will have to have full screen ray tracing (like what Quake 2 demo is running) on new games at almost no performance cost.... so, in other words 10 years from now. Ray tracing is WAY, WAY (I can't stress this enough...) WAAAAAAYYYYYY too resource hogging. I am an "fps over everything" person. So, with my 1080TI, the next card I get will have no problem running 4k/max/60+fps on most games and it will be under $500. I can wait a LONG time for this to happen... oh yeah, and if you couldn't tell from the above, ray tracing doesn't even exist to me.

sander97022171d ago

Yup lol I got a 1080ti like a month after it came out expecting to sell it after like a year or two but after all these benchmarks I don't see myself trading before next gen.

MaximusTKG2171d ago

You think people are ready to upgrade with a 1080 ti? Ha! My laptop has a 1060 in it and every game I have played so far has been well above 60 fps. I think Apex has been the toughest on my hardware so far and I run a pretty consistent 78 fps. Granted, I have less time for my card to run 60+ fps on games than others but this new card seems like a bit of overkill for now.

not getting any new hardware until we get full specs for the next consoles.

Sophisticated_Chap2172d ago (Edited 2172d ago )

Rumors are swirling that the PS5 will essentially be as powerful as a Vega 64/ GTX 1080, which is probably where the RX 5700 (non-XT) will fit in, which is competing against the RTX 2060. I suspect that the RX 5700 will be the Navi chip that is included in the next PlayStation and perhaps the Xbox Two. Anything higher than that, and the price will be too high.

I'm thinking that if you own, at bare minimum, an RTX 2070/ RTX 2060 Super/ RTX 2070 Super and up on the Nvidia side, or RX 5700XT Anniversary Edition/ Radeon VII and up on the AMD side of things, then you will exceed the specifications for the new consoles.

ABizzel12171d ago

Pretty much what @Sophisticated_Chap said is exactly what you should expect.

New consoles can't cost more than $500 without hurting their sales, and these GPUs are still in the +$300 range. The good news is that the consoles aren't launching until 2020, so Navi 2 and possibly RTX 3000 will be released by then, which means the current GPUs will have a price cut or phased out, so a $200 - $300 APU core for the new consoles should be able to pack that around GTX 1080 performance into it (whether a bit higher or slightly lower depending on clocks).

So As long as you have a 2060 or RX 5700 or higher, then you'll be just fine gaming at 1440p @ over 60fps on PC. The big PC change will probably be ensuring you have an 8-Core CPU, because Ryzen is likely to win back a decent chuck of marketshare from Intel, and Intel is likely to move their CPU lineup to i3 (6-core) i5 (8-core) i7 (8-core+hyperthreading, if they can get over the hardware hacks), and i9 (12-core+hyperthreading).

tontontam02172d ago (Edited 2172d ago )

All of the people I know who owned gtx 1080 ti since day one were willing to spend money on RTX.

those people you are referring to are people who bought the gtx 1080 ti at dirt cheap prices they are so late into the cycle the gtx 1080 ti is enough to impress them.

FlameWater2172d ago (Edited 2172d ago )

Nvidia's version of "would you like some tap water?"

NarutoFox2172d ago

Shit I already invest in the 2070🤦🏻‍♂️

InflectionPoint2172d ago

Right! Why even release the 2070 when they are gonna sell a superior version less than a year later for the same price. AMD has Nvidia shook and they had to, they should upgrade you for free!

NarutoFox2172d ago

I'm going to give them a call about this. Hopefully they can give me an upgrade

ABizzel12171d ago (Edited 2171d ago )

Because they had a monopoly on the market, because AMD didn't have a competitior for the original RTX cards, and wouldn't for another year, which is why they jacked prices up as high as they were for the RTX cards.

The Super cards are basically rebrands of the cards that failed to hit core counts to be 2080 ti, 2080's, and 2070's.

Those failed cards still perform and run well, but now they have a years worth of stock of those cards that didn't hit standards, and those failed 2070's are rebranded as 2060 Super, those failed 2080's are rebranded as 2070 Super, and those failed 2080 ti's will be rebranded as 2080 Super.

It sucks for earlier adopters, but at least these Super cards are in a much better price:performance range than the original RTX cards when they launched.

AMD didn't really have NVIDIA shook at all, they were selling the 5700 XT for $50 less than a 2070, which had similar performance (although NVIDIA card generally won overall since most games favor NVIDIA still on PC), but didn't had added benefits like Raytracing (regardless of if it was used or not), so even if the Super cards didn't launch, NVIDIA would have still outsold AMD.

If the 5700 XT was launched at $399 then AMD would have had something on their hands, but here comes NVIDIA with the Super cards and they just stomped the 5700 XT and it's price out of the equation, because for $50 less you can get the 2060 Super which is a tad weaker in general, but again since most PC games run better on NVIDIA it will perform overall neck and neck in benchmarks, offer raytracing, and save you $50.

Or you can spend $50 more than the 5700 XT and get the 2070 Super and flatout beat the 5700 XT in just about every benchmark including those that favor AMD, plus get raytracing, again for just $50 more, and generally beat AMD's current best GPU, the Radeon 7nm and save $150.

I was rooting for AMD, and they killed it in the CPU realm and I will be staying with Ryzen for the foreseeable future, but as far as GPUs go NVIDIA is still king. Even at $399 the 5700 XT is a great card at a good price, but still isn't the flatout steal / win that AMD needed, at this point it needs to be $349, because the old RTX cards will soon hit eBay for $200 - $250 for an original 2060, and $300 - $350 for an original 2070, and $449 for a new 5700 XT isn't going to cut it.

AuraAbjure2172d ago

@NarutoFox look into EVGA step up/trade up program. It's pretty generous and consumer friendly.

Sophisticated_Chap2172d ago (Edited 2172d ago )

I was really looking forward to Navi, and I was even considering Radeon VII, mainly because I wanted to support AMD in the face of Nvidia's domination of the discreet GPU market.

However, the RTX 2070 Super($499.99)pretty much kills the Radeon VII ($699.99) since it is $200.00 cheaper, and according to bemchmarks released, it hangs right at Radeon VII's performance level, and even surpasses it at times. Unfortunately Radeon VII is a dead card now in terms of value. The 2070 Super also sits at GTX 1080 TI level performance.

Then there is the RTX 2080 Super, which I am super excited to see how that compares to everything on the market. It will essentially be a poor man's RTX 2080 TI, which at the $699.99 price point, sounds good to me.

Unfortunately, AMD is really taking too long with their roll out of their higher end RX 5800 and RX 5900 cards, and I really don't want to wait until next February or March to see what they are going to offer. At best, and unfortunately, i'm betting that they will lag slightly behind the Super lineup, and offer only a $50.00 discount compared to Nvidias cards, similar to what we ar seeing with the RX 5700 series cards, and it just isn't good enough.

So basically, for my longterm solution, I'm looking at either the RTX 2070 Super or the RTX 2080 Super. With speculation abour crypto currency mining making a comeback next year in a big way, I would be concerned about what is going to happen to GPU prices, yet again, so i'm getting mine sooner rather than later.

SegaGamer2172d ago

I feel the same way. I deliberately didn't buy any of the first set of RTX cards at the start of the year because I thought they were overpriced. I made the decision to wait on AMD and Navi, and from what I have read, I don't see much to get excited about. I don't want to wait any longer to buy a new GPU, so one of the new RTX cards will be what I buy. I'll probably get a 2070 Super.

AuraAbjure2172d ago

A 2070 Super is appealing in its own right. Especially because it's capable of NVlink.

The 10th Rider2172d ago

Basically where I am at. I bought a used 1070 for cheap to hold me over until Navi, but Navi isn't looking like anything special so a 2070 super is what I'm looking at.

I'd probably hold out for ampere and to see what Intel's launching if not for the fact that my current GPU presses right against my PSU and I want to get a Zen2, but I don't want to have to put that GPU back in because I'm worried that too much of it could bend the connectors trying to wiggle it in and out.

ABizzel12171d ago

100% this.

At his point NVIDIA will continue to own the market, and I wanted AMD to really have a win here as well. That being said NVIDIA will just own the market once again, because now the SUper cards are bringing the best performance, and shockingly the best value to the high / top-end market in the $400 - $800 range.

The $200 - $400 range is in shamble right now for new GPUs, because nothing makes sense, however, the used market is about to be flooded with original RTX 2060 ($250) and RTX 2070 ($350), and at those prices NVIDIA is going to dominate the used mid / high-end market, because AMD has nothing to compete here at that price:performance level. 1080's, 1070 ti's should be dropping down to this range as well if you don't care about RTX and want to stay under $300.

At the $150 - $200 we'll start seeing GTX 1070's drop down here especially since they've been $200 for the longest from many sellers, and once again AMD has nothing to compete here, as the 590 gets stomped.

AMD will only be a viable buy in the sub $150 range where they take wins with the 580, 570, 480, 470.
