"In preparation for the annual Play awards the Play team have been discussing at length which game should be awarded our most prestigious award, the PS3 Game Of The Year. We've each got our favourite game and it's likely to be a while before we come to a decision (or I simply use my executive powers) and plump for one. In the meantime I figured you'd like to know which games we're considering and what the thinking is behind each nomination.

So, without further ado and in no particular order, I proudly present the nominations for Play's PS3 Game Of The Year award…

MSG is an epic game without a doubt... but so is R2 and LBP.

If GTA wins any GOTY awards I will be very disappointed with the results.

I think they're referring (mostly) to exclusive titles. Multiplats don't count as far as I know (not sure why they included Fallout 3 & GTA IV...)

Isn't it a little bit early to pick the game of the year. There are still at least two big titles coming out for PS3 (Mirror's Edge, Price of Persia).

Sure they may be multi-platform, but shouldn't be counted out.

so many amazing titles its extremely hard to choose one...i would go with mgs4 mainly because im such a huge fan of the franchise and thought mgs4 was flawless...but at the same time i go with lbp because i think its the most innovative game so far this gen ugh very very hard but i think we all know that when major sites start to award the game of the year it will no doubt be gta4 mainly because its multiplatform basically a game that every gamer has played or got their hands on and because it was both critically and commercially successful...its unfortunate but thats the reality of it

I think that was a good argument for GTA4 being GOTY but wasn't Bioshock GOTY last year? It sold well but not amazing right? I don't remember, but anyhow, I think MGS4 and LBP are prime contenders. Personally I think LBP will take it over MGS4 because LBP has more appeal and innovation. Its a tough choice but both would be right choices.

Okay, Imma just say that I love PJM and all, and it's my favorite PSN game,
But PJM is a bit overrated.
Anyone who's played Warcraft III's TDs, knows that PJM is just that, with less depth tbh.

PJM shouldn't be there. >.>

I give it to Valkyria Chronicles. Amazing game. The art style is so freaking awesome. Gameplay is pretty fun. It's everything I wanted on a SRPG.

Pixeljunk monsters is seriously awesome (coop tower defense wooohoooo!) but MGS4 is much more of an epic achievement and a monument of gaming. A legendary ending to a 20 year franchise.

For this year, these are my GOTY choices, in order :

1. MGS4
2. Fallout 3
3. LBP
4. Pixeljunk Monsters
5. Dead Space

Resistance 2 is not on the list is because it is not yet out in other parts of the world. It will be available on the middle of this month in may region.
Anyway, MGS4, LBP, R2 and GT5P for me. What can I say? I like GT5P.

It simpley has to be MGS4, no doubt about that... its game of the entire gaming history, let alone game of the year :D You couldnt ask for a more epic final chapter to a fantastic series.

LBP would come second, but it, nor any other game is even close to MGS4 :)

are my top two choices for GOTY this year

are my next set (although not listed in order of enjoyment).

15: EndWar (surprisingly fun)
16: Prince of Persia (it's hard to think it will be bad, considering how good the PS2/Xbox series was)

just a damn good year for gaming, and definitely for the PS3. just about all of it's exclusives except Haze (which i actually bought, and enjoyed, and it wasn't the train wreck that the media made it out to be, but after i beat it, i realized that i wouldn't play it again, so i got rid of it).

honestly, thinking about it, outside of Haze and Lair, what, exactly, are the "flops," that the fanboys like to talk about. they speak as if there is a mountain of sh*tty exclusives on the PS3, when there are really only a handful. Genji was fun, but marred by a stupid camera. Folklore is awesome. Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Uncharted, and R&C Future are awesome.

i've owned all of them (and still have quite a few of them on the list), and only Haze and Lair jump out as obvious games that weren't very good. as a Playstation 3 only owner last year, i had a BLAST with my system. this year has been even BETTER.

i guess i just don't understand all the "flop" talk that was going around last year, and this year also. the way people were acting, you'd think there were no good games, exclusive or multi-plat on the PS3 at all.
