With the Xbox Scarlett incoming, should you buy an Xbox One?

The company’s latest and most powerful console should be in the hands of eager consumers for the holiday season of 2020, likely to mean November or December 2020.

But where does it leave its older sibling? Is it still worth buying an Xbox One or the Xbox One X, S or even the all new Xbox One S All-Digital addition?

right personally I wouldn't wait, but depends on how much extra money you have and if you want to play now. You could always sell back your console, granted at probably 99$ or something, but to me time is more valuable than money.

I think a decent amount of people actually game one generation behind and are extreme budget gamers. It makes a lot of sense, really. If I understand Microsoft's forward compatibility concept, you'll be able to stream Scarlett games on Xbox One via xCloud? If so, as long as there is a fixed low price for many games a la Netflix, I think this is an attractive option for some budget gamers.

Honestly, it was pretty bold for Sony and Microsoft to announce that their hardware is backwards compatible, but it probably doesn't matter much because it doesn't stop software sales-- and used games still have some means of generating revenue for them if you purchase an online subscription to play them or purchase DLC.

for next gen you will be able to buy any game you want on xcloud or get games pass.I dont know why people always confuse game streaming with being exclusive to games pass like netflix.Its entire different model for cloud streaming.Its just a different way to play the games instead of buying hardware but with the same layout as if u bought a console

If they're considering a new console this late in the gen, I don't think that missing out on the exclusives for a few years is their primary concern. In any case, they won't be gaining much by buying the X1 now as there aren't a ton of big games to really make it worth buying the console for anyways. Game Pass can be a good value for those that are buying in late, as they aren't likely to be hardcore games anyways, and a hardcore gamer probably has another console which could easily take them through the rest of this gen right now.

I disagree on the Xbox One X part. If you're late to the game I think your best bet is to just stick to an OG Xbox One or Xbox One S. The X does NOT make sense if you're gonna be a guy interested in Scarlett once it drops or at least this way you have lots of time to be saved up and ready for the Scarlett by that time or 1 year post release kinda thing! I see the Xbox One X as the device for the hardcore gamer or Microsoft fan that wants THE best experience currently for 4K console gaming kinda deal, not a late Xbox owner just looking to get something now.

And sure if you like Halo, Gears, Sea of Thieves (MP), more than UC4, TLOU, MLB (MP) then I guess so.
Only Gears would I be interested in, so not much of a draw for me personally. My multiplayer experiences tend to be 3rd Party games like most people, so that benefits PS due to bigger player base. But if we throw in exclusives than PS4 all the way. I'd wait for Scarlet at this point, really same with PS4. If you waited this long, and money is not an issue, just wait both are BC at the start of the console launch when it matters most not 4 years in.

Don't throw the horizon dawn zero into it, it does look good but it's not leaps and bounds beyond anything I've seen rdr2 looks a lot better it's just a shame it to slow.
I've just finished horizon dawn zero and it's not worth the hype it got, good game yes but not great.
If you've played Far cry 3 and the last of us you will know what I mean, it's just the same as them mix together but different paint

But with a PS4, you can play both Horizon and RDR2, and RDR2 plays fine, and looks fine on the PS4. It does look better on the X1X, but the price is considerable for something that isn't getting much support all around, and again, if someone is buying this late in the gen, their motivations are going to be different than ours, unless it's for a multi-console buyer, where it's just a superfluous purchase anyhow, and they can spend their money any way they want.

Xbox controller is better their RTS is better, racing games, and shooters are better, their online is better, gamepass is better, games with gold still gives 4 games their hardware is better. Sony are good at 3rd person action adventures but have quite a bit of catching up to do in many areas

"The competition" isn't just Sony, xboy.

- All of those games are available on PC.
- Their online costs money. PC's doesn't, and Switch's is 1/3 the price.
- What are you comparing Gamepass to? PS Now? Because PS Now is a much more robust subscription service with more good games. I guess Gamepass gets a pass for the $1/month trial period, but that doesn't last forever, and once it's over you're left paying up the butt for nothing.
- Both Games with Gold and PS Plus are awful.
- Better than a PC? Come on, bud.

Ehh, Gotta say being on PS4Pro with a 4K HDR. 4K vs Checkerboard rendering the human eye can't really tell the difference from 6 feet away where most people play. 4K vs CBR is of diminishing returns, HDR is a much bigger deal. But as far as having more Graphical Density and effects in games like cyberpunk, tlou pt2, GoT...

That's a tough one. MS and Phil made it clear they dont want typical console generations anymore and they want the X to be forward compatable so I'd assume they will continue to support at the very least the X. However, MS doesnt have the best track record of supporting previous gen consoles once the new one is out.

If you want the latest and greatest that will support all your features, I'd say save up an extra $200 and upgrade to the Scarlet vs the X. Especially since the Scarlet will be BC with the Xbox One, if you're new to Xbox, you can go back and play some games you may have missed out on like Horizon 4, Gears, MCC, Sunset OD, etc.

I've got the One X and will buy the Scarlett too when it's released, it's just a couple hundred euro.
Since I switched from pc to Xbox I haven't spent even a fraction on hardware then when I was still a pc gamer.
A good graphics card costs the same or more then an Xbox One X these days.

A graphics card that cost the same as an xbox one will give much better performance. You can play play 4k with high detail instead of low. Xbox One X power graphics card is under $200.

Only reason I say no to Xbox One is because Microsoft has dropped first party support for their current console in favor of the nextgen one BEFORE it’s even close to dropping every single time. If you’re cool with that, then do your thing.

No, they've done what they did with Xbox 360. Absolutely killed any support for it games wise for the last 2-3 years, and holding back all the (Hopefully)decent exclusives for the new console. Relying on just mostly multiplats.

E3 2020 is going to be a massive indicator whether or not an Xbox is worth having, and to be honest, I have my doubts.

As a proud owner of an XBOX One X, I would say it depends. If you waited this long to pick up one of the current consoles, I would advise you to pick up a PS4 Pro instead. I have a 4K 65inch Samsung and you really can't tell the difference between 4K and Checkerboard whatever nonsense. The PS4 already has and will be getting way better exclusives games. Online for both is about the same.

If you are not into single player games, I would say go with the console you can get cheaper. That may be more likely with an XBOX One X now. If you are into 4K Blu-ray movies, XBOX One X is a no-brainer. To be honest it comes down which exclusive games you like best on each console and price.

Gamers are gonna wait now, the bigger question is when they do purchase a new console will it be scarlett or ps5 (I'm going with ps5)

I don't care if someone likes the PS better or the Xbox, I choose the Xbox because they provide the games and services I like, it could've been the PS but it isn't.
I don't care for exclusives either, they're mostly games out of my genre and missing out on a title or two isn't the end of the world either.
I enjoy console gaming because I'm getting older and got fed up with having to upgrade my pc every other year, and I'm not even talking about fidgeting around with drivers etc.
If you like the PS better, good for you, I like the Xbox, I don't get these hostillities between the two.
Gaming equals fun to me, that's the most importand thing.
I'm much more worried about the predatory practices displayed by devs and publishers, gaming surely was a lot purer in the old days, not as pretty but simpler without all the microtransaction stuff etc.

I've been thinking to buy a PS along with my Xbox but the games I play are mostly on both systems so there's no real gain there.
If Cyberpunk 2077 would've been a PS exclusive then I'd probably buy one though.

I collect consoles right back to the Atari 2600 up to the present, even some old computers from the zx spectrum 48k and the Amstrad cpc464.
Soon as the new consoles get released I will be getting them but can only afford one at a time so it's Xbox day 1 for me

Yeah you can pick one up now and get game pass for 3 years for a dollar. There are tonne of games releasing on GP before the next consoles. If you are gaming on a budget its the way to go

Since Xbox One games will be back-compat with the next Xbox... If you haven't purchased one yet, I would recommend waiting. Honestly, same for PS4 to PS5 PS4 games will be back-compat so I would recommend putting that money towards the next system as well.
