Where They Stand: Console Sales in US and Europe

Kris Erickson writes:

"The following internal marketing graphs from Nintendo show the effect of specific game releases on hardware sales for all consoles in Europe and the united States. The data is for January-September 2008. The prominent large spike in hardware sales in the month of April corresponds to the release of GTA IV on Xbox 360 and PS3. The effects of both leveled off after a few weeks and were later followed by other, smaller increases as different titles were released. See the legend below to match the game release with the hardware sales spike."

It's interesting to see how much AAA game releases actually affect console sales. I have never bought a console just because of one game, but usually because of a price drop.

WOW that is sad wii fit was increased sales more then anything.
(But it is nice to see that all console upped over all sales from last year)

The Wii spike is not due to Wii fit alone. Notice that MKWii is what started that climb and Wii fit finshes it. The Really sad part is the dive after the release of GT:P. Notice PS3 takes a turn down just as it comes out.
