MAXIM: Gears of Wars 2 Review

The Skinny: Marcus Fenix and Co. return to Jacinto, humanity's last remaining center of refuge, with the hope of beating back a ressurected and now thriving Locust Horde.

The Good: In an election year loaded with the usual stretched truths and exaggerated credentials, everyone's had their fill of hyperbolic ramblings. So, excuse MAXIM when they say Gears 2 is their new Halo 3.

I can't wait to pick this bad boy up. Almost done beating resistance 2 and gears is next, then left 4 dead, banjoo kazooie, sonic unleashed. Man I am gonna be left for broke after all these games!!!

Everyone knows many reviewers were sent moneyhat gift packs from Microsoft in order to sway the Halo 3 score. Maybe I didn't quite comprehend it right, but how can you compare Halo 3 to Gears of War? BTW, Gears of War 2, while having a more coherent storyline than the first, has an atrocious ending. Why didn't they take that into account when reviewing the single player experience?

Either way, it's good to see Epic following up the first game with a quality sequel. Thanks to this holiday, i'm quickly going broke with gaming purchases! :-(

What I don't like about Epic, is all of Cliff B's bashing of other games - he acts just like the fanboys on websites that we all despise. If he'd just make his games, and STFU about what other people are doing, I think people would respect him a lot more. He should follow Ted Price's example. That guy is an all around good dude, and very well-spoken in interviews and video features.

and questioning of Maxim's credibility is that--

A) almost every site is scoring Gears of War 2 as a AAA title and

b) Halo 3 is an awesome game and deserved the hype. I liked Halo 3 better than Halo 2. Millons of people love Halo 3. Do you think they're being bought off by Microsoft, too?

The critics are usually right. The only AAA rated game in recent memory that I thought didn't deserve its high praise is GTA4 and even I admit that tons of people love this game so it must have done something right.

also, who cares if Cliffy, in your opinion, isn't as nice and humble a guy as Ted Price. He makes better games than Ted Price and that is what I care about. he's not my best friend or even my neighbor. he makes great games for my console and if I didn't like what he was saying then I wouldn't read his interviews which is my advice to you.

Resistance 2 ending isn't a Academy Award Ending...so?, i will not spoil it but a 2 or 3 minutes ending, with two characters and a simple dialogue, so?. Wanna see a fine ending? try Star Wars Force Unleashed, the two endings were great, any RPG ending too, MGS4 ending great too. The good thing about Gears of War is that a third part is coming, so the story of the first, second and third game puto together are going to be very good, can you say the same thing about Resistance saga?

Many people complain that Resistance has a "lackluster" single player experience, and then proceed to ignore the shortcomings of the "backbone" of the single player experience in Gears: the storyline.

My point is, this double standard in gaming is getting old, because it does nothing but promote fanboy wars over stupid sh1t like game scores. I really don't get how you can defend immature behavior from someone who is a game developer of your favorite games.

Yes, I can, because I'm pretty sure they will be making a third Resistance. They have to wrap up the Chimeran virus's effects on Hale, and wouldn't leave it hanging after just a sequel. The storyline in Resistance is nowhere near award winning, but somehow it gets targeted for criticism, whereas Gears and Halo get a free pass. That is the double standard I am talking about. If the third Resistance's ending sucks, I'll bash the game at will

Yeah, The Force Unleashed had a good ending. The gameplay wasn't too stellar, but the game was fun and the storyline came together at the end to provide an overall satisfying experience.

that maxim gave Gears 2 a 5/5? If I had to pick what magazine would do it, id pick maxim. Im not saying Gears isnt good, its probably my favorite 360 game for sure. But seriously, this review shouldn't take into account anything about the game. Maxim blows. I used to like it when I was 12 and I couldnt get any real p!ssy.

I found the lack of boobies in this Maxim review to be a major disappointment. Don't bother reviewing future games like Resistance 2 or LPB unless you're going include a Megan Fox spread.

I wasn't expecting less another perfect score Gears of War 2 is Definite AAA and deserves GOTY 08.
