Metal Gear Solid 4 is the Perfect Goodbye to the Playstation 3

In all this weird, outsize and sometimes pointless grandeur MGS4 fits its bloated home platform so well. The ambition, even now, makes most AAA games look like pygmies in comparison. The scale of it is amazing. And even if Mr Kojima might have too high an opinion of himself, though one still shared by Sony, there's no denying that at times, it touches outer heaven

I mean that kinda doesn't make sense since the PS3 existed 5 more years after this game released but its definitely a proper goodbye to the story that started way back in MGS1.

Click on the article. Context makes sense. It was the last free PS+ game.

yeah I expected that to be the context.

And the perfect goodbye to MGS. I pretend that MGSV ain't a thing

MGS5 sucked ass. Gameplay was its only great thing. Shouldve been a spinoff title.

TengHu737d ago

Finally! Someone said it also. MGSV is balls. Gameplay was the bees knees though.

Well canonically speaking, IV is the last entry in the series as V takes place in between 3 and 1.

So even if you did not ignore V, IV is still the true send off for the franchise.

It was terrible in comparison to MGS1 and MGS2 it was a terrible B movie with some minimal game mechanics bolted on. The only cool part was going back to the setting of MGS1. Maybe I am judging it too harshly as MGS1 on the og PlayStation was one of my favourite gaming experiences and I put it and MGS2 in my top 10 games of all time. I still remember the day MGS2 came out a friend and I quit our crappy post UNI jobs, got a shit load of beer and stayed up all night playing it. I thought the PS2 was going to explode at one point it has been on so long.

I probably should play MGS4 again to be sure.

Aside from MGS1 it seems all the games in the series are incredibly divisive. I've seen tons of people name MGS2 as the absolute worst in the series and most boring, some hated MGS3 for its lack of solaton radar and thought the stealth was sloppy, many hate MGS4 for too many wacky cutscenes and too many ridiculous twists, and many (including myself) hate MGS5 for its sparse story, soulless gameplay and poorly executed open world.

Personally, I rate 3 & 4 as joint favourites, with 1 and 2 not far behind, and 5 waaaaaay behind. (1,2,3&4 would all be in my top 20 games of all time, and I've been gaming since the Master System) Everyone's going to have different preferences, though I would say 4 is A LOT better if played on hard mode during first playthrough. Really forces you to be clever and stealthy.

the last of us : am I a joke to you ?

Metal Gear Solid has been a part of Playstation since 1998. Last of Us was a brand new IP.

Metal Gear Solid is much bigger than the Last of Us.

Can Konami remaster this game already with a better netcode for mgo?!

CDbiggen737d ago

After MG Survive, I wouldn't anything MGS at all come from Konami unless it's like a mobile game.

PS3 was the perfect system to experience & say goodbye to the Metal Gear series before Konami went and butchered the franchise.

With Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, & Metal Gear Solid V you could play every mainline game on one system except for Portable Ops.
