Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is Messy and Uncomfortably Realistic | COGconnected

COGconnected: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is absolutely messy, may offend many and is uncomfortably realistic. But that is just fine as this is exactly what Infinity Ward is trying to accomplish with the single-player campaign.

I wouldn’t know because I’ve only seen one trailer! When are we going to see some gameplay and multiplayer?

Kornholic2151d ago

The game will be out 4 months.

Muzikguy2151d ago

all the more reason to be showing gameplay by now

mark3214uk2151d ago

doesn't it worry you they haven't showed any gameplay and the game is out in 4 months?

Palitera2151d ago (Edited 2151d ago )

Why do you need a trailer for a game we have been playing for 10 years?

If you believe there's a chance it will stop its trend of being worst each time (I don't, since all the talent seems to be at Respawn; they don't fix their netcode; their level design became ramdomly ridiculous; if you don't rush you die), you need to buy the game to know it, as media only gives positive impressions about it every year.

If you like COD, you will probably like this iteration. If you don't, you won't.

Absonite2151d ago

What up fellow Korn head.

JackBNimble2151d ago

It will be the first CoD that I have purchased in years. Thanks to gaming urinalist I'll buy it because it goes against their agenda.

Besides i want a game that's so realistic.

Sevir2151d ago

They did, the trailer released was all gameplay.

Newmanator2151d ago

Don’t play dumb you know he means gameplay with a HUD, not gameplay cinematics.

Fanof302151d ago

No one is playing dumb lmfao. Know what you are talking about. The trailer was literally gameplay lmfao. Everyone who saw the E3 gameplay demo reiterated that the trailer was in-game gameplay. Nice try.

Thunder_G0d_Bane2151d ago

Gameplay or STFU.

That needs to be the stance all of us gamers take. Cause this is very insulting.

Applejack2151d ago

Would you care to explain why it’s not necessary to show any gameplay this close to releasing the game then?

Atom6662151d ago

@Applejack

It's COD. Come back in a year when this game has sold 15million+ despite not showing gameplay 4 months before release.

Also, OP called it "insulting." I agree with Sniper: It's really not insulting, nor is it "necessary" to show it yet.

It's marketing. We got a trailer, then info, then the press got a closed door viewing of it. I'm sure we'll be inundated with coverage over the next 4 months, but they're just trying to build up hype.

If it avoids getting dozens of "puddlegate" articles, I say wait to show the public final code of any game, rather than expect people to respect what "work in progress" means.

Thunder_G0d_Bane2151d ago

Yes it is.

They have said the game has a new engine, crossplay and whole new approach to COD. But refuse to actually show it?

If you walked into a store and a salesman told you they have a new great TV that you can buy that uses new tech and doesn't show you the TV at all will you be happy to pre-order it?

Vegamyster2151d ago (Edited 2151d ago )

Apple

This isn't insulting nor is saying that imply that its not necessary to show us, there is still plenty of time.

The last time Infinity Ward showed there game there was a massive hissy fit over a futuristic game to the point people review bombed the trailer just for fun, the developers were on camera doing a panel or something later and were visibly upset at the reaction. The irony was Infinite Warfare was shown without a title at Sony's E3 (the space battle mission) and people loved what they saw on Twitch until it was revealed to be Call Of Duty at the end, the MP wasn't very good but the campaign was one of the best in series, but not one will remember that about that game.

At this point believing anything coming from a COD Dev is like believing anything Trump says.

Good. I'm glad it's morally grey and "uncomfortable" to be honest; makes things a lot more interesting. Do we really want the same 'safe' stuff every year? I know I don't. Let it be brutal, visceral, and unkind - it's war for shit's sake.

Now I'm really, really interested.

EazyC2151d ago (Edited 2151d ago )

Yep -- this negative attention has me massively interested. The people that saw it keep talking about how 'tactical' was too (breaching, use of cover, lean mechanics). Doesn't at all sound like CoD, sounds like a more gritty Rainbow Six

UnholyLight2151d ago

I honestly just feel like because it's the thing to do these days, writers and reporters and whoever it may be are just playing into the sentiment of the day because it generates controversy and extra clicks.

It's a war game and CoD is trying to get back to a grittier, more reality based setting. What is wrong with that? Why are video games suddenly crucified for wanting to be realistic and generate an emotional response, but movies and TV shows get a free pass for extreme lifelike gore and situations that are much more shocking than a VIDEO GAME?

Muzikguy2151d ago

I'm kind of interested in this new game as I haven't played any COD since BO2. Lack of gameplay though has me questioning it just like the past games

Rynxie2151d ago (Edited 2151d ago )

I haven't played cod since blacks ops1. Cod blops 4 is the most recent cod I got since 9 years. Nothing has changed. Still imbalanced, still loaded with player lag, still rewards idiots playing like idiots.

Except now, the game has both auto-aim and aim-assis set to very high. The game literally does majority of your aiming. A lot of the guns do 1-hit kills, in some cases, doesn't even have to be a direct hit. If, let's say, a bomb passes right by you, it'll kill you.

Will be interesting to see what sort of numbers GP users draw in come tomorrow. It is believed that this is one many have been waiting for.

thesoftware730287d ago

Darth,

That is not accurate; this game is old, and most people who want it have already bought it. You might get a small number of subs, but we will mostly see a good influx of players(not new subs) from people with Game Pass who will try it, which is what happened with D4.

CoD: BO 6 will be the test for actual sub numbers.

darthv72287d ago

That's fair... seeing as many have been saying they want CoD in GP. My comment was more of , now that its here... what can it do. Im sure there will be other titles in the franchise that will either entice or turn off different users.

Bathyj287d ago

No one's buying a console and signing up for a monthly bill just to get this game to avoid buying it. That's ridiculous. Besides everyone bagged the crap out of this on release for the 4 hour campaign.

andy85287d ago

Sweet. Never got round to it on release. I'll give the campaign a go

chicken_in_the_corn286d ago

Severly underrated game. Big improvement over 2.

Why MW 2019 is still the best looking Call of Duty to date

MW 2019 is five years old at this point and on previous gen hardware, but it is still the best looking Call of Duty game to date.

MW was an excellent videogame. They messed up Spec Ops big time, but aside from this it was a huge step in the right direction initially. Most notably, at launch it seemed to come from a very cohesive creative vision that was felt across gameplay, to story to art style/visual direction. It was also very notably written by prominent ex-Naughty Dog guys that quit almost immediately before release.

That COMPLETELY dissolved through post-launch content and the full pivot to a "cross-mode" narrative that completely obliterated the cohesion in overall story direction. Warzone then "became" the new face of Call of Duty and the franchise completely removed itself from anything remotely creatively "good". It is a pure money machine, so I kinda get why they're doing it....but I personally completely lost interest.

I would love to see Infinity Ward move off CoD and get to make their own product with full control. They clearly have some massive talent in their ranks but it's perverted by Activision's corporate interests.
