Gears of War design is based off of Killswitch. Killswitch is a PS2 game and not only that the guy who came up with the concept for it worked on Gears of War. So how did Cliff really make this game? He didn't he just redid the controls and did some changes. Giving Cliff complete credit is wrong on some many levels.

Because most people are nosy bas**rds, thus why gossip publications exist. People like Cliff are this industry's equivalent of Hollywood celebrities. Some of us, including myself may not care much for what the man thinks, but sadly the majority do. You publish what gets attention, and Cliff's big mouth gets a lot of it.

The editorial is just a little more than hypocritical. Cliff works in the game industry that Sean writes for. In my opinion, that makes Cliff a bit more of an authority. I know it is asking way too much for random game fans to understand the business of creating and marketing games, but that is what Cliff is doing. It's his job to promote what he does and gain as much positive exposure as possible. He isn't forcing his views on people like they are scripture, what people make of his words is completely up to them.

The interesting thing with this article is Sean doesn't really do much for gaming and is only using Cliff for hits. This makes him more of a parasite than anything. If Sean had something to offer the gaming industry then he would probably not be writing articles like this. If he wants to open a discussion about the pros and cons of turning developers/producers into celebrities, than that would be a different piece and maybe even a little less biased. Instead he reduced his writing to absolute garbage by making it a personal attack against someone that is doing their job and actually getting paid for it.

You can think what you want, hell, Cliffy B can think what he wants to... the point I was trying to make is that some of his comments are clearly attention getting whoring on his part, while the bulk of it is the fault of sensationalistic gaming press. Sorry, I don't consider myself "gaming press" or a "journalist", I write social commentary related to gaming. There's a distinct difference there.

You're entirely entitled to dislike what I do and even discount it as the exact same thing you think Cliffy B is doing except I do this as a hobby and don't live behind any illusions this is my job or even necessarily important. Judging from the rest of the comments here, clearly my opinion on this topic is shared by the vast majority of folks commenting.

haha was thinking about this earlier. Fair play to him for releasing a great killer app in the form of Gears of War and following that up with a great sequel (although i gotta wait for tomorrow to play :P) but i don't understand why his opinion on everything matters so much. i keep seeing 'cliffy b's opinion on x'

Theres plenty of other successfull game designers out there so don't see whats so special about this one. oh and my opinion dropped of him so much (like so many people in the game industry) when he made the gow2 announcement where he 'saw' through a screen with a lancer. cringeworthy.

Bottom line he needs to just stick to the games lol
