"If [game streaming] can be made to work, it could grow the pie significantly for everyone, and that's something far more important than squabbling over who gets which slice." Sounds nice but I think this is going to continue to be a fiercly competitive landscape.

naruga1578d ago

i hope not ...console wars means competition aka quality ...

CorndogBurglar1577d ago

The first comment Naruga has ever said that made sense!

Orbilator1577d ago

We are 10 years to early consoles still have lots of life in them. I been playing since the vcs 2600 and I been hearing about the end of consoles since then, so they been hanging on for dear life for the last 35 years, well done consoles

bluefox7551577d ago

Translation: "We make console gaming look more like mobile gaming, because that's where the money is."

Godmars2901577d ago

More like moving console gaming to the mobile gaming model, but otherwise right on the nose.

ziggurcat1578d ago

No. It's just announcing controller support on iOS devcies. That's it.

ILostMyMind1577d ago

Everything today is a "gamechange".

If there are people who are insecure about their purchase then there will always be a console war.

CorndogBurglar1577d ago

What?

There will always be a console war as long as there is more than one company making consoles. They will be in direct competition with each other in some fashion. It doesn't mean they have to be hostile towards one another, but there is still that level of competition. That's before even considering fans at all...

PhoenixUp1578d ago

Even amongst all these collaborations there will always be a console war. It’s the nature of the industry

CorndogBurglar1577d ago

Well yeah. There's no way around it. At the end of the day, as long as there is more than one company making/selling consoles then both of those companies will obviously want to be on top of sales. That's competition. Or "war" to put it another way.

Doubtful maybe MS will exit the console market replacing it with their Games as a Service model but Sony and Ninty will keep traditional console gaming strong.

Orbilator1577d ago

I agree. Microsoft think of what they want and always tell us what we want. I kinda hopes they realise its us that spend the money, not them

Obscure_Observer1577d ago

@AK91

"Doubtful maybe MS will exit the console market replacing it with their Games as a Service model but Sony and Ninty will keep traditional console gaming strong."

Lol. First we heard that Xbox division would be sold (with Bill Gates blessings). Then, Nadella and Spencer took over and as soon Phil Announced Play Anywhere, we heard that Xbox would leave the console business and focus on PC only. Then, BOOM! Phil Spencer announces Xbox One S and X!

As soon, Phil announced Xbox Game Pass and the haters moved the goal posts. This time, Xbox leave the console market and become a service. Then, BOOM! Phil Spencer announces Xbox One All Digital Edition.

Then, PHil Spencer announced the creation/acquisition of several studios alongside the Xcloud announcement. Haters moved the goal posts once again, we heard that Xbox would become a third party publisher. Then BOOM! Next gen Xbox CONSOLES are comming!

And here we are hearing the same BS all over again. Lol.

ILostMyMind1577d ago

Then BOOM! All the Xbox hardware has never been so insignificant.

ILostMyMind1577d ago

Actually, Sony and Nintendo could make a deal where everyone stays where they are, Sony with consoles and Nintendo with handhelds and they could help each other.

The video game industry might end up shutting down indefinitely if negotiations with SAG-AFTRA fall through.

"The video game industry might end up shutting down indefinitely if negotiations with SAG-AFTRA fall through."
