"Sony's Purpose" Trailer Has PlayStation and its Biggest Games Front and Center

Today Sony Corporation released a rather charming trailer featuring its philosophy titled "Sony's Purpose." Unsurprisingly, PlayStation is front and center.

I wouldn’t say PlayStation was front and center in this video. Sony Interactive Entertainment got as much attention in this video as Sony’s other subsidiaries

UltraNova1782d ago

Nuh, admit it you were too waiting for that "For the Players" outro at the end...

fiveby91782d ago

But this video demonstrates very well how Sony's first party studios helped win the current console generation. Sony is a creative company from movies, music, technology, to games. They have a strong pedigree this way. Compare that to MS. They buy studios and make games but most all of them were a facsimile of other games. MS is a business software company first. MS's pedigree is very different than that of Sony's. Sony allowed its creators to create through trust and time. MS too often canceled or rushed games because the spreadsheet said this was the smart move. MS needs to trust it's new stable of creators. Give them time to experiment and take risks Otherwise, they will fail again.

I didn’t even watch it all the way through the first time. I just had a feeling that this wouldn’t be a PlayStation centric video and watched 3/4ths of it to confirm my suspicions

Weird interpretation of front and center

XiNatsuDragnel1782d ago

Sony's PlayStation nation front and center

Neonridr1782d ago

I mean they definitely showed some Playstation stuff, but there was a lot of focus on other divisions too.

EddieNX 1782d ago

They should of done something at E3. Little videos here and there and telling us that the ps5 is going to have fast loading times isn't enough. Be there or be square.

Araragifeels 1781d ago

They most likely going to have another State Of Play around or after E3.

The Death Of Arkham Has Me Worried About Spider-Man

Saad from eXputer: "After the rise of Rocksteady and its fall with post-Suicide Squad, I'm worried about Marvel's Spider-Man suffering a similar fate."

Hofstaderman18d ago

Why? According to the well publicized Insomniac leaks they have a slew of plans for Spiderman including its sequel.

CrimsonWing6918d ago

The sequel has had rumors that it could be sold piecemeal style or might be GaaS.

https://youtu.be/XCFr3KRB9G...

This is all coming from the leaks you mentioned. The problem is the industry is not doing well no matter how ill-informed people spin it on here when they see “sold 3 mill.” In those Sony leaks it showed the struggle to get ROI and they spend an insane amount of money to develop, which makes 0 sense to me when there’s not much to show for the increased development costs. Case in point would be Suicide Squad vs Arkham Knight.

I believe we’re in the middle of seeing a drastic change in media and distribution. This goes for movies, but more so for games and the industry is scrambling to figure out how to get more money out of consumers rather than stick to the “buy it once” to play it all.

These are things you need to pay attention to in order to know which direction the wind’s blowing with this sh*t storm. I was almost certain the GaaS initiative was killed when Jim was leaving, but now seeing the success of Helldivers 2… I’m thinking we’re in for a bumpy ride. I just don’t know what that looks like yet, but I don’t think it’s gonna be pretty.

Insomniac still has a good generation left in them before they get cannibalized by investors. It'll probably happen around the mid PS6 gen, when we see the beginning of the fall.

dmonee17d ago

Huh with this article? If Sony and Insomniac want to abandoned the Spider-Man franchise and make a half baked, live service Spider-Man game, and miss the mark with their fans, then God bless’em!!!!

Seems unlikely when they abandoned the GaaS spiderverse game but are still going ahead with single player games like Wolverine and Spider-Man 3.

I would be on it. Especially if they change up the gameplay to differentiate from first game. Loved the first.

Currently enjoying Rise of Ronin.

blackblades24d ago

Both have different gameplay but it amazes me how people kept comparing just because they both are samurai. Seems kinda ...... that im not gonna mention.

Cacabunga24d ago

Bend studios making a gaas game and getting lot of negative comments abt that direction.
I hope these stay faithful to making amazing SP games..

Demetrius24d ago

Definitely getting ronin soon, I'm on my 2nd playthrough of GOT on ps5 this time🔥

-Foxtrot26d ago

Probably my most anticipated to be announced

I hope Jinns story continues and we get way more stealth tactics like dragging bodies away and the like.

Lightning7725d ago

I fully expect this game to be announced. Late 2025 release perhaps.

Either way I can't wait for its announcement at Sony's showcase.

Friendlygamer24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

I'm hoping for more complex interior level design for stealth gameplay and also a more complex stance system that's more than rock paper and scissor for each enemy type

RhinoGamer8824d ago

I have stopped pre-ordering games since Cyberpunk 2077 fiasco...this is a game I will make an exception for...

Ghost of Tsushima is one of my favorite games all time. Hard to live up to that. Not all games are going to be equivalent to some of the best games ever and that’s ok. It is a natural comparison though

Killer2020UK25d ago

Totally agree, as a jaded gamer well into his 30s I didn't think games could hit like Ghost it Tsushima did. I actively avoided story missions in order to pursue every single side quest purely because I didn't want it to end. I wanted to be immersed in that world for as long as it lasted.

JangoMan24d ago

I hate open world games. Its clutter and fatigue. Except GoT.. I completed every thing before going into next main mission. The feeling of playing the game was.... I cant explain. It was perfect

raWfodog25d ago

My favorite jaw-dropping moment was obtaining the Ghost stance. Epic.

JangoMan24d ago

Agreed. Its the dream come true for fans of Samurai and Japan feudal age.

Andrew33625d ago

Got was good but super repetitive.

Juiceid25d ago

Arguably every game is repetitive.
