VGChartz's Evan Norris: "It feels like slowly and quietly publisher Nicalis is building a video game cinematic universe in the style of Marvel and Disney. Blade Strangers, with its roster of crossover fighters, was the first sign, and puzzle game Crystal Crisis, which pulls together characters from many Nicalis-published titles—including Cave Story, The Binding of Isaac, and 1001 Spikes—is yet another. It even introduces playable characters from Nicalis games in development (the video game equivalent of a backdoor pilot). With lots of familiar faces, plenty of content, and some clever puzzle-fighting mechanics, Crystal Crisis is a nice diversion that unfortunately doesn't take full advantage of its all-star cast."
Amazon has discounted the physical versions of several notable Nintendo Switch games to under $20, including Crystal Crisis, Killer Queen Black, Trine 4 and more.
"Crystal Crisis is definitely a step up from Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo although that step is a rather small one so it ends up feeling more like a retro copycat than a new and exciting puzzler. That being said, playing it is still a ton of fun, especially in multiplayer." - A.J. Maciejewski from Video Chums
Phil writes, "I'm terrible at fighting games, so perhaps you're like me (and God help you if you are) and yearn for a "fighting game" that solves its squabbles not with complex button combos to memorize, but instead fast thinking and chaining combos of crystals and clusters to score points and decimate your opponents. If that's your thing, then Crystal Crisis from Nicalis aims to fill a gap in the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Steam libraries that are currently missing out of a modern version of Capcom's Puzzle Fighter series. While the collection of all-star characters aren't as much of a draw this time around, the engaging and entertaining gameplay of Crystal Crisis very much is, offering a great layer of depth and sophistication."
