The Convenience of Playing Old Games

Nick writes: "I have found it extremely convenient to play old games rather than brand new ones while I finish nailing my back catalogue. A feat which is (unbelievably) nearly done."

with this year being very slow on new (good) titles (only dmc and days gone so far that were worth anything) i am also working on that huge backlog. as far as i‘m concerned the drought may go on, i got stuff to play until the ps5 arrives.

Retro games are better than most of the crap we are being sold today.

I recently completed my strange goal of having every downloadable PSP retro compilation on one memory card...in 2019, because why not? TBH I don't really consider myself a true retro gamer as it's not like I have any interest in acquiring old hardware if I don't already own it, and I'm still mostly a modern gamer.

I could run down a whole list of the pros and cons of old games vs modern games, but I don't feel like it. It's also worth noting that the term "retro" actually encompasses a wide variety of games spanning decades. I personally subscribe to the two-gen rule, but that means the retro moniker applies both to Pong and various games on the PS2, Xbox and Gamecube, and across every genre that has existed in that time frame. That said, there are definitely things I like about older games across the entire spectrum that I'm missing with newer titles. I spend most of my gaming time with current gen titles, but it's good to take a break from time to time and enjoy one of the plethora of classics.

I can sort of see the authors point but what the heck is the point of this article? To convince me not to but new games and only get old games? Ummm....no. Your points are silly. Because of cheapness is the only reason if you’re on a budget. If you have kids and a family and you think you’ll never finish your backlog, we’ll I’d suggest only buying the absolute must play games that you determine that fit that criteria. Screw backlogs, I have kids, a wife, a house and a full time job. I love playing and I’d love to play more than I can but life happens. Now I only buy games that I truly see as a must, unless there’s a drought and I’ll pick up one of those games I wanted to play but didn’t make my “must have” lists.

Great game, but the second was better. Especially on PC where you can use the unofficial patch that adds a lot of the content the didn't get to finish before release.

One of the GOATS when BioWare were on top of their game, also has one of gamings best twists.
