A Dedicated Fan Is Remaking Metal Gear Solid In Dreams

Maybe one day we will finally get the modern Metal Gear Solid HD remake fans have wanted? Though it might be this fan or another Dreams creator, who finally makes it.

ArchangelMike2224d ago

So awesome! Some people have real dedication. I wouldn't even know where to start, not to mention the time it would take.

P_Bomb2224d ago

That looks bloody amazing!

UltraNova2224d ago (Edited 2224d ago )

I cant believe my eyes...I don't even know where to start... Maybe this guy has some game dev skills or something...I mean how can average Joe do anything remotely close to this quality??

Edit: Konami better stay the hell away from him.

Imalwaysright2223d ago

According to reports, Dreams is user friendly and allows us to tinker with other people's creations wich could give you an insight on how a level like this was possible to make with the tools provided by the game. If you stick with it and you're passionate enough you may end up being able to create something of this level and that's why I believe that this game has the potential to become one of the most important games ever in this industry... if I can call it a game because it seems much more than a game to me.

rainslacker2223d ago

Love this. I'm not an artist, but I love what people are making with Dreams. Sadly, I think a lot of these creations will get copyright claims against them and have to be taken down, so we aren't likely to see a lot of them shared. Not all publishers are that open to interpretive work, and if it doesn't benefit them, they'll want it taken down.:(

Fluttershy772224d ago (Edited 2224d ago )

It's awesome. I love it. I'll support this because I love the possibilities..
But question: couldn't Konami potentially suit for this? I mean if Media Molecule doesn't show any effort to take down this sort of games. It's their ip... And Ok, I get it was made by private users, and the content was uploaded by users, and they just offer a platform... but that was the argument used by MegaUpload some years ago and it didn't work.
From what I'm seeing it's perfectly possible to make remakes for Mario, Zelda, Metroid games... Of course then even new games (probably making Mario Maker 2 obsolete or at least affecting sales...) Do you think Nintendo, that is always so protective, would just gladly let them use their ips?

P_Bomb2224d ago (Edited 2224d ago )

Could be protected by the same parody/satire laws that protect Family Guy etc from being sued into oblivion (they’ve also won all their defenses iirc). If you watch Family Guy, they animate IP they don’t own all the time. Transformers, Star Trek, Sesame Street, DC, Marvel, NFL etc. Remember the NES Double Dribble episode?

What protects them among other things, is there’s no confusion that the Metal Gear in Dreams is the actual game. There’s no malice or defamation. MM’s game’s have an established 10 year history with parody and this sort of content, as do other games like Minecraft where you can YouTube all sorts of 3rd party art https://youtu.be/dVlOsXmIvI... . Nintendo would’ve been crazy to file a cease and desist over 8-bit art they haven’t made since the ‘80’s.

Fluttershy772224d ago (Edited 2224d ago )

Yes. But that's a parody-satire, that is trans-formative content so it falls under Fair Use, essentially Family Guy does something new with the original material, they are entitled to do it, protected by the law... The same could be argue with Minecraft (which is blocky, 8bit artsy = it could be said is a parody... idk, I don't play that game... You could argue it's a homage if you recreate the Mushroom Kingdom Palace of Mario 64 in Minecraft. But the whole idea of Dreams is to let other people play the games you design, with the help of others... I could be playing Mario Bros 1984 without paying Nintendo for it...) If this were a parody, It has a case (as long as is not the whole game)... But here we are talking about the recreation of the same game... is the same style, same designs, the music, the gameplay.

I highly doubt Konami would/could take action considering they’ve done business with MediaMolecule before. They know what’s out there and have encouraged it via licensed Metal Gear levels/kits/music/skins in LBP PS3/PS4.

I think more publishers know than we think. Marvel, DC, Ubisoft, EA, Square, Disney, Pixar, WB, Fox, Universal etc have all sold items in LBP before. EA, Bethesda, Microsoft, Sony all have crossover characters and/or levels on Minecraft. I can play Gears of War and Halo characters on my PS4, while Nintendo does crossplay with Xbox. I think their corporate partners generally understand what UGC is and are cool with the free publicity. Except maybe Activision lol. COD stuff used to get modded early on.

@fluttershy
Nothing is reproduced exactly 1:1. It isn’t an emulator. You can’t play the entire ‘84 Mario. Yet! At best I’ve seen maybe 3 levels.

P_Bomb2224d ago (Edited 2223d ago )

Edit: You can still buy the Metal Gear kit for LBP, cross compatible with PS3/PS4/Vita https://store.playstation.c...

Makes sense to play nice with the platform you sell the majority of your software on, and the developer you’ve had a cut from for 10 years.

This is the craziest thing I have ever seen! The author said on Reddit that it plans to publish this level in the next two weeks.

chris2352224d ago

and this dreams thing is going to sell? i am sure there are a few people out there this construction kit will cater to. but the vast majority? why would anyone want to spent that much time developping something so unnecessary like the examples we‘ve seen? very sceptical about dreams.

xX-oldboy-Xx2224d ago

You don't have to, just play everyone else's levels. But you might find you have a talent for creating music, animation or character design. You can upload assets for others to use.

I don't think it'll sell close to GOW or HZD but still should sell well.

Mr_Writer852224d ago

I've bought it and I'm rubbish at it, yet have a ton of fun playing other peoples stuff.

There is some really fun, creative stuff out there.

P_Bomb2224d ago (Edited 2224d ago )

You are aware that Minecraft, LBP, Roblox etc have sold millions? MediaMolecule’s been at it for over a decade. If you build it, they will come:

Rude-ro2224d ago (Edited 2224d ago )

Why does it have to sell to everyone?

This point makes no sense what so ever.

It is what Sony does.. instead of trying to convince everything they offer is a blockbuster.. they cater to all needs.

There is another company that tried to lean on the everything must be a blockbuster... and they are about to get passed by the switch with 3 years less time on the market.

KwietStorm_BLM2223d ago

Did you know LittleBigPlanet is a thing? Sold pretty well too.

Very impressive essential Dreams isn’t really a game but a gamer maker that allows you to create your own games and share. I can see people just playing other peoples games I am sure some awesome stuff will be made with it.

Dreams had potential but it really needed to get off of the PS4. It released so late in the gen when everyone was already wanting to move on to next gen systems. It should have come to PC, and a native PS5 version should have definitely released.

Knushwood Butt129d ago

I bought it Day 1 but the 'campaign' was pretentious and just didn't work for me. I had no intention of making content so was left to fumble through the user created content. Some good stuff, with the pig detective being the most memorable. However, just moved on to other stuff, and despite owning VR, never once played in VR either.

Knushwood Butt129d ago

Media Molecule always seem to be too ahead of the curve to have a big hit. Hopefully whatever they are working on now finds a big audience.

YoungKingDoran129d ago

For whatever reason/s they somehow dropped the ball hard with Dreams, our loss

Lionsguard129d ago

Dreams was fantastic, especially when VR was added. The things people managed to build was incredible. Some of the best VR experiences are still from Dreams experiences. The huge crux for it was being on consoles however and it was missing one thing that they didn't have back then and that we have now..... A.I.. With the advent of AI today, if they could have had Dreams running on PC and somehow got AI to work where we just typed in a prompt and it did things, it would have been a massive game changer, it could have just made the AI "Dream" and create its own things. It could have solved their problem of somehow getting one dream to just change into another one seamlessly. I really think Dreams deserves a second chance.

Rancegamerx129d ago

It was an awesome idea but even with tools that were supposed to make it easier to make a game, it was still so hard and convoluted. It tried to do to much at once. It would have been better to separate everything into easier parts, build the world, then the character's, then the music, etc. Not everything all at once. Some people understood it but most were overwelmed or confused.

I have to emphasize that this is an extremly well made remake, it's the full game with all the content and features plus more. Visuals and sound is very close to the original, this version was recently published. I know there's a lot of predjudice against Dreams, which is a shame and not really deserved, the tool is much more capable than many think.

fr0sty239d ago

Just a reminder that Dreams is free on PS+ Premium... if you have it, go download it, and thank us later. It's a truly fantastic game.

If there was one PC version that should have existed it’s Dreams

I’m super glad they will be going back to something more traditional gaming wise.

Cacabunga403d ago

I’m sure they’ll find something creative to implement like Tearaway on vita. What a gem 💎 that thing was!!!

Abear21403d ago

My dream was DreamsVR and creating landscapes, characters, and sculptures using that amazing toolbox in vr, that would have been something imo.

ocelot07403d ago

I thought It has vr support?

Amplitude403d ago

It did but it came out as an update LONG after the game was essentially dead

P_Bomb403d ago

Dreams PC was the dream. Woulda given the game a much needed boost. Here’s hoping they follow it up well.

phoenixwing403d ago

If sony had any sense they'd be making a pc version pronto

mkis007403d ago

They probably ran into the same problem they did with the potential of last of us factions....the support needed was just too much to consider expanding to more platforms for a smallish studio.

Abnor_Mal403d ago (Edited 403d ago )

I use to say this when the game was first releasing, many kept saying it would not be possible, something about the toolsets.

I said this was one game that needed to be on as many platforms as possible, including PC and Xbox just like how Minecraft is everywhere.

Goodguy01403d ago

Creation tools just don't work on console very well. It's definitely more suited for PC, and it's very odd Sony decided not to port it over. Good MM is working on an actual game instead.
