How My Blood Boils: Ranking the Bosses of ‘Sekiro’

Ishin the Sword Saint is tied with Father Owl 2 imho as the hardest bosses in any Soulsborne game.

As for Manus, Father of the Abyss, oh I meant Demon of Hatred (yeah...) what can I say other than From made the right decision to make him optional. He had no business being an obligatory boss in Sekiro because this was a straight up Dark Souls boss right at the end of the game where we already had to rewire our brains and muscle memory and unlearn our Soulsborne combat skills while learning the Sekiro way. For those who went up against this dude, did not cheese him and won, I salute you!

I agree Isshin, the sword saint and Hirata owl are tied. They are tied for second in my difficulty rankings because Demon of Hatred just took me far longer to figure out.

Other than that Isshin (roof), Owl (roof) and Guardian Ape were a good challenge.

In terms of quality pretty much all the bosses except for folding screen monkeys and the Ape duo are really good. My favorites were:

1. Owl (Hirata)
2. Isshin, the sword saint
3. Owl (roof)
4. Guardian Ape
5. Emma, Isshin

How do you get to Hirata Owl?...I'm just now on Ashina Owl and i don't wanna miss it.

I_am_Batman2198d ago

@DaGR8JIBRALTAR: If you are on your first playthrough I wouldn't worry too much about missing anything as the game requires multiple playthroughs to get every ending anyway. Beating Hirata Owl is one of the conditions to get one of the secret endings. It envolves exhausting dialogue and eavesdropping sequences. Here are the conditions:

- After defeating Genichiro at the top of Ashina Castle, exhaust all dialogues with Kuro and Emma, and exhaust all eavesdrop opportunities on Kuro, which you get when hiding behind a wall using Hug Wall mechanic. The specific location for eavesdropping requires the player to stand just around the corner behind Kuro and the large statue he stands next to. Go around behind the statue and then hug the wall on the left side of it. Multiple rests and switching from one to another may be required. Do this until Emma moves to the top of the stairs.

-Talk and agree with Emma about Kuro.
Progress the story and collect the Lotus of the Palace and the Shelter Stone key items.
At the top of Ashina Castle, The Owl will give you the choice to follow the Iron Code or to continue to serve Kuro, the Divine Heir. Choose to continue to serve Kuro and defeat The Owl.

-Rest, speak to Emma again and then travel to the Old Grave Idol. Talk to Emma to the left of the grave and then travel to Dilapidated Temple.

-Eavesdrop on Emma and Sculptor from behind the temple. Talk to Emma and then choose "Ask about what you overheard", and then, "What are you hiding?" to receive Father's Bell Charm. Use it at the Buddha statue. If you haven't completed Hirata Estate area, you will need to do it by killing Lady Butterfly before you can use Father's Charm.

-Go to the Lady Butterfly boss room and defeat Owl (Father) to obtain Aromatic Flower; the optional Memory is also awarded for this fight. There are also two mini bosses in the area before this that award the player with Prayer Beads; one is optional while the other one is mandatory.

-Beat the final boss, talk to Kuro, and choose to give him the Aromatic Flower ("Everblossom") and then the Divine Dragon's Tears.

Hells yeah. Would love to see another really tight action focused title next. Be cool if he did something completely different, like a cyborg-ninja game.
