Take note Nintendo and Capcom, you don't have to charge $60 for remakes and remasters

Nitrowolf22177d ago (Edited 2177d ago )

Sony’s been really good with this. Ratchet and clank remake/retelling, shadow of the collusus, and their HD collections In general.

Always find it funny when someone tries to justify that $60 price tag when there’s another company downright remaking them and selling them at a cheaper price

remixx1162177d ago (Edited 2177d ago )

And at better quality, look at shadow of the Colossus remake and ratchet and clank remake. Cheaper games and the remake quality is dumb good, literally built from the ground up.

Now I love Nintendo but Pokemon dx remaster and super Mario Bros u are some bullshit (especially donkey Kong TF remaster that launched at a higher price on switch than it did on Wii u like how?). And Nintendo fans try to justify it by saying "hey most people didn't own Wii U's so there practically new games"---yes I've heard this multiple times.

bouzebbal2177d ago

Picking this up for sure at this price.. Thank you Sony for caring for the gamers

FallenAngel19842177d ago

It depends on how much effort went into the remake though. RE2’s production values justified it to be a full price title. Plus Capcom typically releases their remasters in the $20-$40 range

Nintendo on the other hand without fail always releases their retail games at $60

Concertoine2177d ago

The biggest slap in the face by N:

In 2014 Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze launched on wii u for $49.99

In 2018 it launched with one new character on switch for $59.99

Teflon022177d ago

Even Activision was way more reasonable. Crash Trilogy would have been a fair $60 game imo but was $40 same with spyro. Crash Team Racing has basically 2 games worth of content and a bunch of new stuff that didn't exist originally and it's getting a release price cheaper than MK8D right now. Even new games like Team Sonic Racing get prices under full price. Ninty just gets away with it so they milk it. I've wanted alot of the ports but i refuse to pay those prices so I barely have games on my switch because I'll only pay $60 for new games and games that should be that price. Especially when handheld games use to be cheaper than home console games

naruga2177d ago (Edited 2177d ago )

i agree with you in most but NOT in RE 2 remake specifically.....the game had ton of rough edges and didnt felt realy like a full price title...(compare it with MOnster Hunter World for example which was indeed 5 years in development with a lot of attention to everything inorder to not alienate fans

IamTylerDurden12177d ago (Edited 2177d ago )

If you justify the $60 price of RE2 based on quality, then R&C and Shadow of the Colossus deserved to be $60 games as well. In my opinion those are THE two highest quality remakes ever made. Spyro was beautiful, Crash was excellent, the Nathan Drake Collection was a terrific remaster and RE2 look very good, but R&C and Shadow of the Colossus are next level.

Heavenly King2177d ago

RE2 is a remake+"re-envision" of the game, it justified the $60. Most remakes are just better graphics (+RES, +textures, poly count, detail, etc), and remastered only have RES updated.

Teflon022177d ago

Heavenly. Ratchet was in the same boat as RE 2. It as a reimagining. Some areas were changed, new weapons, new systems. some stuff like enemies are entirely different and such.

Rimeskeem2177d ago

Wasnt the remake for SotC and R&C also 30-40$

Knushwood Butt2177d ago

$60 is worth it if it's portable.

StormLegend2177d ago

Being portable isn't $60 worthy. That's like saying graphical updates and improved AI is justified $60

Teflon022177d ago

I don't know if you realized, but portable versions of games usually retailed for cheaper than home console. Look at every DS and Vita release vs console games. They'd release between $40-$60 and on Vita $40 max and it was the same with every handheld game in general outside of Pokemon, Uncharted and I think like 2 other games for the most part

Immagaiden2177d ago

Why you dragging Capcom into this? You gotta go out of your way to see a $60 remaster from Capcom as you sort through all their budget priced remasters.

jznrpg2177d ago

Have you seen the prices of Nintendo’s cardboard?

The 10th Rider2177d ago

Price is determined by demand. You can bet if companies could get away with giving AAA games $70 or $80 MSRPs they would.

As far as remakes go, the fact of the matter is that more people will buy a game like Resident Evil 2 or Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening at $60 than will buy MediEvil at $30 or Shadow of the Colossus at $40. If Nintendo or Capcom had to charge less, or Sony could charge more and still see strong sales, it would happen.

I'm not saying that's a good thing or anything, it's just that the pricing is based on a companies level of "greed" or anything like that, and Sony's not offering lower prices out of some sort of good will, they're all setting their prices based on how they think they can make the most profit, which means balancing the number of predicted sales with the price.

remixx1162177d ago

Not necessarily, ratchet and clank remake as well as the last of us remastered both could have definitely launched at 60$ and been fine, while the demand for donkey Kong country tropical freeze remaster was definitely not high enough to justify it being more expensive than the original version.

ShadowWolf7122177d ago

God of War and Spider-Man could have easily kept selling at $60 yet still saw price drops after a while.

Lowering prices on games over time is indeed done out of projecting an image of "good will" at times, if only for PR purposes and publisher etiquette.

ShadowWolf7122177d ago

Idk man, with the amount of work they put into RE2, $60 was a fair asking price. If it hadn't essentially been COMPLETELY remade from the ground up, I'd maybe agree.

IamTylerDurden12177d ago (Edited 2177d ago )

Nintendo has used the overwhelming popularity of Switch to screw people on game prices and sometimes hardware. In many cases they charge exorbitant prices for what essentially is a Wii U port, and their fans allow them to get away with it. The media and the fans eat this shit up instead of questioning it. Many games in general are more expensive on Switch, the hardware is expensive, Labo, but repackaging Wii U games and sometimes selling them for more 4 years later is a joke. I could maybe understand if the games were completely reworked and legitimately remastered, but they are basically glorified ports. At best. Selling Medievil at $29.99, which is entirely reworked, is the antithesis of that and it's truly awesome.

Relientk772177d ago

Wow, that's awesome, day 1 and for a reasonable price too

IamTylerDurden12177d ago

That's an amazing price for a ground up remake. I truly believe that sony could be selling these games at a higher price point. R&C, Shadow of the Colossus, and Medievil are essentially new games with new assets, running on new tech. These are ground up remakes, so it's surprising to see them selling at budget prices. I got the steelbook collector's edition of Shadow of the Colossus for less than the price of a new AAA game. R&C was one of the best games of the year in 2016, it was fully AAA and an utter gem, yet it only cost $40 at launch and was later reduced to $20 new. $29.99 appears to be a steal for Medievil. The game looks awesome and i can't wait for Halloween. As a consumer i'm thrilled, but i have to wonder if Sony is leaving some money on the table by selling these remakes at such a deep discount.

PhoenixUp2177d ago

Good on Sony for continuing to release budget titles

I wish Nintendo could take notice

badz1492177d ago

Nintendo is like..."NEVER!!"
and Nintendo fanboys are like.."YEAH! Nintendo's games are $60 because they have higher demands than others'!"

Imalwaysright2177d ago (Edited 2177d ago )

Yeah because that's how it is in the real world. Supply and demand dictate the price of goods and services.

FallenAngel19842177d ago (Edited 2177d ago )

Seeing remakes like this and others like it selling for budget prices further disgusts me how Nintendo will continue to sell all their remasters at full price, especially when remasters take relatively less effort to make than remakes

2177d ago
chadwarden2177d ago

Because nintendo fans will by nintendo games regardless of cost and nintendo knows this.

CDbiggen2177d ago (Edited 2177d ago )

I love Nintendo, but there is no defending the price of those wii u to switch ports.

Not to bad.

Gravity Rush 1 and 2 are amazing can you believe the guy who created Silent Hill created these.

PixelOmen1038d ago

Gravity Rush 2 is probably the most underrated game on PS4.

DarXyde1038d ago

Agreed. And it was definitely top 5 on the platform for me. Genuinely loved how charming the series is/was.I loved it so much that I Platinumed it twice (Gravity Rush 2 and its Japanese variant, Gravity Daze 2).
Such a lovely series. I say this once every 3 or so months, but Sony committed the gravest sin in my eyes by dismantling my favorite Sony studio, Japan Studio and I really had a hard time forgiving that.

BlaqMagiq11038d ago

Absolute classics, both Gravity Rush 1 & 2.
