WhatIfGaming: Resistance 2 Review: Milestone

WhatIfGaming writes: "It's hard to comprehend that Insomniac Games, a company that so fortuitously has released a total of four titles now since the launch of the PlayStation 3 and makes new game releases seems easy, manages to pull off titles that are exceptional with an unbounded asymptote of quality. Only two years after the release of the Greatest Hit of Resistance: Fall of Man, Insomniac presents a more complete and harrowing experience in Resistance 2, bringing the story of Nathan Hale to a cinematic climax of everything action becomes. Resistance 2 is simply bigger, more advanced and innovative experience compared to it's prequel."

These are the types of reviews I approve of... No scores, just text and a recommendation to "Buy it" or not...

I'm just waiting for the "Who's whatifgame? I trust IGN and Gamespot, not these obscure websites"

Horny Melon4030d ago

"Decently sized at 10 hours"

?!?!? and that's giving it an extra hour. Most sites run through the single player campaign in 9. The 12-15 hour of deadspace and bioshock are too short.

"Single player is unmatched with Resistance 2 in comparison to many first person shooters across the board"

Across the board is a big stretch.

"The developers made a game with amazing replayability that totals more than 420 hours to unlock all the content."

Replayability does not equal content. Unlocking things = grind

Good call, Facepalm. I loved the Resistance 2 beta. This is the single FPS that I'm buying later today when it's out. I'm not even a big FPS gamer, most of them I don't like. I also don't usually play online. COD4 was great for the online but I didn't like it ultimately. Resistance 2 takes online to a new level with the beautiful coop. I'm more than happy to play with other soldiers to accomplish a common goal that furthers a story. No such game I've heard of does the same. Resistance 2 is my shooter choice this season for many reasons. For once, online coop is a big reason I'm interested in the game. Resistance 2 is a reason alone to own a PS3 this coming holiday season.

What will Metacritic turn this review into?

Remember they turned Variety's no score review of LBP into 80%

I respect your thought on this Len. And you're right, it does require taking my word for it. I just thought that when respected publications like the New York Times or Variety can't post scores because of years of tradition on that front, they deserve at least a shot to be on sites like mine. And if I can extend my credibility to the process which is as transparent as possible, then I should do it. But this is a rare circumstance. I put a lot of thought into it. And trust me, I won't be liberal in doing it. This might be the only publication that gets this treatment in Games.

thanks again for using.....

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule, I read your post, and as much as I like your website ( I visit many times a day) I have to disagree with this method. I'm pretty sure you're a honest guy, and I don't have reason to question it. I guess my problem is we have to take your word on it. I just think If a website does not post a score then either should you. If said website want you to cover them I feel like I should be able to click a link read his/her review and see how they graded the game. By the way I am so glad you will be doing something to stop the fanboys from coming to your site and dragging down the user score. Thats a very smart thing to do. Thanks again for your time. Love the site.

Both correct Len. What's your question, my friend. How did I generate that score?

this website didn't give a score, but you put them down for a 80/100

Tarasque4030d ago

Man seriously, who gives a flying [email protected]#k. I could care less if they gave it a -80, i am still buying it and i am still going to enjoy it. Seem's like you guys need something better to do in your lives than worry about score's, i mean seriously it is kinda sad really.

theEnemy4030d ago

Game Reviews with no scores should also be on Metacritic. But metacritic should not put a score based on their understanding on the said review.

They can leave it blank and post the review as well.

I don't see any issues if they do that.

shine13964030d ago

The whole point of metacritic is to appoint an average, how do you work out an average if no number is given. In my opinion they shouldn't really be using such publications anyhow because then it is they who decide the difference between say, 89.5 and 90. I know its sill, but these days publishers seem to take them seriously enough.
