Cuphead is proof that Nintendo Switch really needs an achievement system

Achievements in games aren't for everyone, but they are (almost) everywhere. PlayStation has its trophies, Xbox has achievements, and Steam also has achievements. One place where they don't exist is on Switch, and no matter how good the Switch games lineup is, or how awesome the console is as a whole, the lack of achievements will always feel like a missing feature for many.

Agreed. I really hope Nintendo adds this.

Always remember that Nintendo mostly caters to children so If it's not beneficial to them then it's not worth it for them. Party chat is not coming to the switch or anything that will have pedophiles interacting with children so Nintendo will try their best to keep children safe.

Nintendo tries to have wide appeal and they do their own thing without worrying too much about the other guys. I’m actually glad they didn’t start making PlayStation clones, we already have Xbox.

King_Noctis2190d ago (Edited 2190d ago )

You mean just like Sony try to keep the “children” safe by censoring games?

Just stop it.

VenomUK2190d ago

WHAT IF - Nintendo allow Microsoft to add achievements to their (Nintendo's) first-party games such as Super Mario Odyssey and Zelda Breath of the Wild - would you want that?

Shiken2190d ago

You know you are desperate to downplay something you don't like by playing the tired false claims that Nintendo caters to children, despite various more mature exclusives and more mature 3rd party ports.

Plus we all know that Sony is all about the kids these days, seeing how the same games that they censor on PS4 are left alone on Switch.

Silly gameAr2190d ago

@King Noctis

If you mean keeping half naked loli's censored, sure. I hope you and the people that like to bring up Sony censoring because you get butthurt because someone brings up a good point, stop soon as well.

They had their chance to implement it before releasing the Switch, but of course they didn't. Nintendo have always been the laughing stock when it comes to online services. Not gonna change anytime soon.

Sono4212189d ago

Look, I want Nintendo to add an achievement system as much as the next guy, but let's keep our priorities straight, they should fix their online first, that before literally anything else.

PhoenixUp2190d ago

At this point I doubt they’d adapt to a practice that’s been popular for over a decade. They haven’t even done basic things like implement party chat or built-in Ethernet ports

I don’t really get achievements, are they really something people care about? If so I guess Nintendo is really missing out by not adding them, seems like a simple addition.

Benjaminkno2190d ago

So you don’t get them but they’re missing out?

Makes sense

Sitdown2190d ago

Clearly you didn't read the "if so".

SpeedDemon2189d ago (Edited 2189d ago )

For some it adds replayabilty to games and some people just enjoy completing challanging goals. It was also kinda neat back when Avatar were a bigger focus on Xbox, some of the harder achievements would unlock Avatar items.

Edit: Meant to reply to someone else.

jeki2190d ago

I don't care about them but maybe other people do?

Vanfernal2190d ago

It's like internet points... Some people get satisfaction and bragging rights out of it.... Some don't care. I know some people who ONLY play games to unlock trophies. To each their own I guess.

Amplitude2190d ago (Edited 2190d ago )

I used to care waaay too much. It's honestly It's what kept me in the Playstation universe and out of the PC world - even when i had a custom built solid gaming PC that can blow the PS4 (and PS3 back then) out of the water. But i literally would rather pay extra to play the inferior game just so i could get the trophies. I remember grabbing Crysis 2 on PS3 right after i spent over a grand on my PC lmao
I also spent probably 12 hours on my platinum of Barbie Sisters Puppy Rescue... it was torture.

Nowadays i jump around between PS4, Switch, PC and a bit of XB1 constantly so i dont really care that much. It's still definitely fun getting all the trophies in things though - adds replay value and a sense of accomplishment and its absolutely one of the things that keeps me from getting multi-plats on Switch.

Teflon022190d ago

Yup, I definitely care. As a person who likes completing games 100%. I've been that type even before they existed. It adds a good value to my games. It's the reason some games I'd rather play on Vita than Switch like FFX

gamer78042189d ago

at least you are able to see both sides, I've really grown to love achievements, its like a metagame. Microsoft has added quests and makes it even more of a metametagame. I'd love to see nintendo get on board with an achievement system of some kind.

No they don't achievements are stupid

gamer78042189d ago

you know you can turn off the notification of achievements and completely ignore them, so at the very least they add value to some people.

Azurite2190d ago (Edited 2190d ago )

Imho achievements should be in the games, not the consoles.

jeki2190d ago

Yup, I just posted that before I read your comment.

ElementX2190d ago

Are you talking about in-game only achievements? That idea sucks. I've played games where the only way you can see the achievements is to run the game and go to the achievements menu. There's no way to compare them to friends or see what percentage of players have gotten them.

RizBiz2190d ago (Edited 2190d ago )

The original Valkyria Chronicles had that. It was stupid. System-wide account-linked achievements are far superior.

Amplitude2190d ago

why would anybody want that over a system-level achievement system?
I can't think of a single benefit tbh

Teflon022190d ago

Ratchet and Clank has it, called skill points. It's point dies when the games off. Atleast it being console wide allows you to keep your accomplishments. Account wide is the best way to do it. For ppl like me it adds alot. I may have actually 100 percent mario odyssey if it had a achievement list because it's just tedious for me. But the games not bad, it'll just give me motivation to complete the rest. As you're not really missing anything. Some games got like true endings and such like Nier where seeing the endings have a actual value so I'd do that either way. But fdefinitely system wide
