I think Thundercat gave a perfectly valid reason for not wanting a Switch and I don't know why that makes his taste in games awful. If you don't like what Nintendo have to offer, does that immediately mean you have terrible taste now? I liked Nintendo games when I was a child. I'm now a grown man. I'll take a good story driven game with mature elements and gameplay like GOW or TLOU over bouncing on koopas heads any day.

Having both system has its perks... but once you're stuck with one game, the other console will collect dust for a while.... like i was playing God of War, left my Switch collecting dust for months, but when Fire Emblem Three house is out, its my PS4's turn to collect dust.. or they both collecting dust since I rarely wipe them.

Well said Thundercat77. Owning more than one console in this day and age just isn't feasible on an emotional level. It's just too much for one man to handle. What if I'm playing my Nintendo Switch and realise I may like enjoy Zelda more than Killzone. The mental gymnastics I'd have to do in my head to justify how I could enjoy a cartoon more than an M rated game could destroy my confidence as a man.

I bought a Switch for Zelda and played through it. Want to talk about a boring game that requires dozens of hours of mundane work to see it through the end. I really was chasing that "carrot on a stick" but after hundreds of shrines and seeds, I realized it's just an empty physicas based map with phone game-like minigames to play. Holy hell is BOTW bad.

I really am not impressed with the Switch over all. It's devoid of content, a solid online system, and power.

There are some good games but most come to PS4 like Hollow Knight and Celeste (Which I platinum'd).
I really enjoyed Octopath Traveler (which is coming to PC) and what I am going to be pissed about, is if it comes to consoles because I would have rather had it on PS4 as well.

Mario Odyssey was fun but moon hunting became very mundane. Same with Yoshi. These are just collect-athon platformers that have no substance, story or replay value.

My favorite Switch game is hands down GOLF STORY. It was a surprise hit for me. I picked it up because it looked like Mario Golf on GBA but as an RPG, then I realized it's wacky fun and has 3 of my favorite out door things, which is golf, disc golf and ..... GEOCACHING! lol

joycon fine but the pro control being more expensive than the ps4 control is pretty ridiculous. I only finally bought a proper control for my switch because I refused to pay that price or these resale prices that are like $10 off. In Canada it's like $90 and tax while PS4 is $69.99 and some $74.99 if a special edition. That's pretty ridiculous seeing the PS4 control is fully featured with everything but this "hd" rumble. But makes up with all the extras it has

I’d take their pro controller over the £100-120 elite controller on Xbox. As for games prices like final fantasy being expensive (blame square) Nintendo prices for new (or even re released deluxe versions) warrant the prices if you don’t wanna pay wait a year or 2 for the selects range that they do on all their consoles. The amount of time you can get out of a rereleased Mario kart 8 for example over some of the yearly churned £40-80 deluxe editions for some digital guff ill take mario kart etc anytime. They make one Mario kart a Gen. Mario odyssey is brilliant up there with galaxy. Love my PS4 tho both great consoles both smashing out great games and even tho I got it day1 yet to check out BOTW but heard nothing but great things from people who actually spend time with the game.

Majority of cars go down in value before you’ve left the forecourt. Unless your buying one of a kind Ferrari’s or something.
However I do agree Zelda games Pokemon really hold their values well so yes they may be expensive but they don’t suddenly drop to £1 trade in like fifa or COD within 1-2 years max because there’s been another 2-3 games since then.
As for robitmus prime it’s great Sony are competitive with their prices but on the other hand they drop the prices on games you’ve paid full price for meaning yours games aren’t worth half of what you paid for them but nintendo hold their prices ie meaning your games keep their value they don’t suddenly become worth half overnight or less. You can resell games after all. But as mention Nintendo games and collectors pay big prices. Works both ways tho you could say Sony are devaluing their consumers trade on values good games hold their prices look at GTA5 sure it’s cheap now... it’s sold 100 million (somewhere like that) copies.
Same with Nintendo now they’ve sold 10 million on a fair few games and once they have a few new ones out what do you know Nintendo selects range.

I agree with this aspect of Nintendo, they really do overcharge for their products, especially their accessories.

Nintendo's consoles are decent enough but the key thing for me, the thing that makes me buy their consoles, I love their games. They compliment my PS4 library so well, I am currently hunting a platinum trophy in Dark Souls and having Super Mario 3D world on my WiiU to dip into as a palette cleanser works a treat for me.

I am off to Budapest on a stag in a few days and having some Mario Kart on my Switch to distract me from the flight is going to be awesome.

And you doing a great job listing out the "exceptions" that I spoke of. But, as I said, those not are the games most folks want on a handheld. You buy a handheld for small games, not AAA blockbusters. The fact that Switch can take those games to 1080p TV doesn't mean much for those games as the graphical performance suffers so much that I wonder why even bother. For every Doom, or NBA, or AC, you'll find larger number of the games that I am talking about like Celeste, Mario Kart, Shovel Knight, Dead Cells, Cave Story, Owlboy, etc. You want to talk about a long list? That one dwarfs yours and it isn't even close. But if Switch meets ones personal requirements for a handheld that connects to TV then by all means, but let's not pretend that just because they can play a handful of the games from other consoles that they are getting the true "big game" experience. They simply are not.

All systems have indies so all systems have small games......but the games that are not indies on switch are full console games, now if Nintendo started porting 3ds games to it then it would have handheld short experience games but until then the switch is full console games and indie games

Love my Switch but I don't see a real reason to try to convince people to buy it. If you like Nintendo first party titles, and the occasional indie title or third party game and don't mind compromises in graphical quality than sure buy it. But TBH the online infrastructure is still dated AF in comparison to PSN/XBL and third party support for AAA titles is still kinda up in the air.

With that said... If you do plan on getting a Switch I recommended Xenoblade 2 or at least Xenoblade 2 Torna the Golden Country if you like jrpgs and don't mind the anime inspired art direction. Easily my favorite game(s) in recent years.

Love the idea of Switch, but I've stopped playing games for gameplay sake. Zelda and Mario have never had compelling enough stories for me (and yes, younger me loved OoT, though Mario never stuck). Hell, I didn't even finish Bloodborne. I know, I know, it's a game! It should be all about the gameplay, right? Well, all the games I've played as a kid were all about the gameplay and I've grown out of it, now I want at least a good story to go along with it. If the next Persona was exclusive to Switch, then I would have to get it. Again, I love the idea of a console/handheld hybrid and the fact that they tried something new, but my WiiU sits downstairs for guests and I never use the damn thing except for Smash with guests, same with my old Wii.

Just because most developers are incapable of creating good characters and telling a story well doesn't mean it can't be done. It has been done.

But some genres are just much more difficult in this regard. Open world games for example really struggle to tell a story well since they have so little control over the pacing. Destiny has a story somewhere in there, I've never been able to follow it, and more importantly, they have failed to make me care whether there is a story, primarily because most of their characters are uninteresting and shallow with no character development at all. Other than Cayde6, their characters are dull as dirt.

Then you have games such as Portal. Weak story but Glodos has so much personality that she carries the game, without her it would just be a puzzle game. Then you have games like Uncharted or TLOU that have it all.

Sure some devs and writers can pull it off but it's extremely rare however I have to say that while I completely agree that TloU has charismatic characters and a good story, the gameplay is also really good. My problem with Nintendo games is that there's just not much to them. They're usually good for a little mindless fun and that's about it. I tend to like games that have a more serious tone to them and a deeper story and unfortunately most of nintendos games dont fit that. And the gameplay in a lot of them are pretty simplistic at times.

I like my switch for 1st party content but my ps4 represent 80% of my gaming time.
Especially when most 3rd party games on switch are ps3 games repackaged and sold at way higher prices you can find them on ps3 or ps4.
Ex: dragon dogma, LA noire, saints row the third, darksiders, assassin's creed 3.... Etc

I play mostly on my PS4 and have a Switch too. I don't really recommend the Switch. Indies are everywhere, and unless you like Nintendo exclusives the whole "on the go" excuse isn't a good enough reason to get it. I'm not sure why the media is pushing this whole "better on switch" narrative lately but games aren't better on the switch and no I don't say that because of difference in power.

I like my Switch but it has several flaws. It isn’t very powerful , the controllers slide out occasionally , battery life is ok and worst to me is it gets uncomfortable. Another thing is is a big chunk of the library is games I’ve had for years . If they make more AAA games not E for everyone I can look past most of those things . I’m hoping the new machine that’s suppose to be more powerful has a solution to make it more comfortable to hold for long periods of time. I never had that problem with my Vita. The rounded edges make for a more natural feel and Switch is more rectangular . If you don’t have a Switch I would wait for the new models and see if you want one then . Oh and one more thing , the games are overpriced, ports of old games are expensive and don’t drop in price very much even after years pass.

I picked mine up last week to play Dragon Ball FighterZ on my commute. It's been pretty nice. I play on my PS4 at home and keep the Switch in my bag. All my friends are still on PS4 so that's where my online money goes. I'll probably do the same when Team Sonic Racing comes out. The Switch gives me a chance to practice a bit more on any given day.

I grew up with Nintendo, N64, Gamecube....and it stopped when they made Games like Zelda Cel-Shading instead of those awesome promised 3D Graphics. Since then my taste in Games switched to more ambitious, thrilling, and yeah....graphically more immersive games. Because your "Gameplay-First" argument ist just the last bastion to defend the Nintendo, but graphics do matter to immersive yourself in a game. Breath of the Wild for example, might be enjoyable ....but it is not as spectacular like all those fanboys think it is. Graphics in Super Smash Brothers are even better, sorry that´s just the truth. They should have deliver Zelda with real 3D Graphics like in the first Demos, but they killed that interest for so many people.

It´s funny to see that if you don´t like nintendo games, your taste is automatically awful, even if you grew up with that and they simply didn´t grew up with you.

every time i go to budget out more than 60 dollars for a switch a funny thing happens. I spend money on a playstation game and i come away happy. I'm sure i'd have fun with a switch but to be frank playstation alone satisfies my gaming needs and the expensive games that never seem to have sales on them puts me off buying it when i can get games on a flash sale from sony for cheap.
