Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Getting New Update; Here Are the Patch Notes

Today Activision and FromSoftware announced a new update for their popular game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

UltraNova1841d ago

Well it seems From Soft is trying to make things somewhat easier by reducing Spirit Emblem cost in some prosthetics and the Bull's mini boss health and posture...

Dragonscale1841d ago

The bull isn't that bad really when you figure it out.

UltraNova1841d ago

I know and I wonder why From felt the need to nerf him.

Mulletino1841d ago

Because the “fight” is figuring out how to beat him. Once you do then they don’t want you spending as long beating him

UltraNova1841d ago

Mulletino,

Same goes for every single mini or regular Boss, yet they choose the Bull. Why?

DrumBeat1841d ago

The bull was a cake walk for me. Fire crackers, few hits, dodge, repeat.

Rimeskeem1840d ago

Once you figure out the cheese you can do every boss is like a minute long LUL

Daeloki1840d ago

Agreed, it's a pretty straightforward fight once you figure it out, but I think the issue was (or at least I felt that) the bull was a bit of a "bullet sponge". As in even when you were doing everything right, it took forever to wear him down.

They really need to reduce the hit box width of grab attacks. You could clearly have jumped or side stepped and still get grabbed. It is infuriatiing. Especially witht he ogre, and even more so with the guardian ape.

The only hit box I felt was really off so far was the Great Shinobi Owl fight. His slash attacks feel like they have a hitbox beyond the actual slash.

carcarias1840d ago

@savedsynner

Yeah, I felt that too. Like his arm suddenly grows 5 feet at the end of the attack.

It's only certain attacks though so I just made sure I kept further away, but it was irritating since it meant I couldn't get in to punish.

Servbot411841d ago (Edited 1841d ago )

I don't think reducing the spirit emblem cost of some things necessarily makes it easier, it just makes those prosthetics and combat arts not useless compared to the lower level ones. Like why would you ever use an attack that takes 6 emblems?

Thelastgideon1840d ago

Honestly the boss needed the nerf simply because it’s so inconsistent and that it’s health pool is so large versus how little damage you do at the point in the game where you encounter the bull it seems right, and on top of that it will charge and hit you around corners when it charges into a wall it can get a bit overwhelming

william_cade1841d ago (Edited 1841d ago )

The Blazing Bull fight was fine. Run, deflect, run. deflect and so on. It has been one of the easier fights for me. Now that one armed Ninja is wiping the floor with me.

Xb1ps41841d ago

Man... that bull is kicking my ass lol... most time blocking won’t work.. so I been trying to run to his back or side when he does that hard turn with the burning thing on his head.. you get better hits when standing in front of him but that damn headbutt I just can’t block..

And it’s annoying as hell when you lose lock on! Had to remap the lock on to the left click, makes it easier for me since my thumb is always on the left thumb stick..

Loving the game though... this isn’t a gam3 you rush through

UltraNova1841d ago

Let him run to you, dodge to his side, wait for him to do a side head attack and when he drops to the ground attack 3 times, the moment he gets up, throw some firecrackers, attack 3 times. Rinse and repeat and steak will be served.

XVision841841d ago (Edited 1841d ago )

You don't need to block at all. There is a small square area to the right of where the bull first appears (where the door to advance forward is). You can keep the bull trapped in there. All you need to do is keep dodging to the side and force the bull to hit the walls. The bull will be forced to turn around. From the time it hits the wall, turns around, then charges again you can just keep hitting its butt until it dies.

william_cade1841d ago (Edited 1841d ago )

Yeah, there's a ton going on in that bull fight. run to the center, turn your camera and when he dips his head in the ground, give it a quick second and then deflect.

I had to remap the deflect button to L2 on the PS4, L1 is way too small for my left hand.

BadElf1841d ago

Yeah, firecrackers are key

antz11041840d ago

Firecrackers, lead him into the box corner, DO NOT lock on and stay behind him. You'll have it in one of two tries.

Xb1ps41841d ago

Ultra

How you get the firecracker? I got the flame thrower and the axe.

Mulletino1841d ago

Tent vendor on a plateau decently early on. Grapple points up to him.

ArchangelMike1841d ago

A number of shop keepers sell the fire cracker. As far as I know, the first one you find is after you defeat Gyoubu, befoer you go throughthe gates, turn around and run up the steps. You'll meet Tengu, and then run to the right around the corner, and up andother flight of steps. You'll find shp keeper, I believe he sells the firecraker. But there is another shop keeper that sells it as well.

DaDrunkenJester1841d ago

You know where the old lady is that gives you the bell you thinks you're her son or nephew? She is right before the area with the guy that shoots the rockets at you. They're is a path off to the left where you can climb to the top to a plateau and there will be a merchant there that will sell you the firecrackers.

BlkMonk-EKing1841d ago

Right past that first mini boss samurai general. You will see a big ledge with a bunch of crows. Before you go through the gate look to the left and grapple up then keep grapple up to the left. Up on top is a merchant who sells firecrackers for 500 sen

savedsynner1841d ago

Which one? There are quite a few of them?

Vanfernal1840d ago

The camera is the real boss when you fight the one armed ninja (Ashina Reservoir) lol. The tiny room with the horrible camera is rage inducing. I ended up just cheesing the crap out of him with the axe cause I was tired of dying because the camera wouldn't stay locked on and I couldn't see wtf was going on.

william_cade1839d ago

I think, I'll do the same lol

pyroxxx1839d ago

,.. yep ,.. but with every NG+ it takes forever,..since his hp VS your damage output,.. are not really connected,..it is annoying and takes way too long.

The_Blue1841d ago

Even with an invincible option how does one stop being thrown off map.

Xb1ps41841d ago

Ha! Lol that tall chained up dude with the wrestling moves threw me off a few times... loved that fight!

Vanfernal1841d ago

I started ng+ and was steamrolling everyone. Got to that guy and was pretty much fighting perfectly but somehow he managed to grab me at the worst possible angle and threw me off the cliff more times than I care to admit. Hurt my pride. XD

bujasem_891840d ago

@vanfernal when he throws you. You can grapple back to him.

SpinalRemains1381840d ago

Press L2 and latch onto his head.

Lexreborn21841d ago (Edited 1841d ago )

“Reduced the Posture damage dealt by the first hit of the Combat Arts "Senpou Leaping Kicks" and "High Monk" as it was causing more damage than intended in certain cases. Posture damage dealt in the latter-half of the combo has been increased.”

Sad but I used the Senpou Leaping Kick to destroy Genichiro and Isshin at the end lol. It interrupts certain strings and added so much Posture damage.

“Fixed a bug where certain enemies would sometimes stop attacking the player.“

This happened a few times and I was perfectly fine with it lol

sushimama1840d ago

I just used the double and single Ichimonji. Genichiro and Ishin stage 1 use double, Ishin 2 and 3 i used single, if I used them at all. The Double Ichimonji is such a succulent Ichi lol. I just deflected and attacked when necessary. Ran and ran back when needed. Great fight the last one. Surprised more people haven't finished it yet. Trophy percentage should be a little bit higher imo

Lexreborn21840d ago

Man the game was legit but new game plus with extra difficulty is on some other stuff

pyroxxx1841d ago

Nice ! At least they haven't screwed anything,..Don't understand nerfing the bull,.. but than again I am glad with anything that takes lass time,.. The costs of all the tools should be reduced in the first place(or moves),.. They are awesome, but you always dread using them more,..

Before Miyazaki Retires, We Need To Get A Sekiro Sequel

A sequel to the studio's acclaimed title, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, would be the perfect swan song for long-time video game director Hidetaka Miyazaki.

H923d ago

Man you didn't have to do me like that with the title

LoveSpuds23d ago

I just don't see it happening given the success of Elden Ring. I think we'll be seeing a sequel to Elden Ring before anything else.

Demetrius23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

I'm not into souls games but it's good to see that this dev studio stick to what makes their titles unique, there's alot of souls copy n pasted games but they rarely get talked about cause they're looked at as copies and not original created ideas, the souls games are unique cause they offer they're own identity instead imitating I respect that

jznrpg23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

Or Bloodborne 2 preferably both but that’s a lot to ask if he plans on retiring sooner than later

Leeroyw23d ago

Bloodborne 2 or I'd simply love a 60fps remaster. I'd also love a bloodborne randomiser option.

toxic-inferno23d ago

I'm definitely holding out hope for a Bloodborne 60fps remaster still. Some extra features thrown in would be nice too.

With regards to a sequel, I'd actually rather From Software make another new IP with a different setting. That is what made Bloodborne so good - the fact that it took a proven formula and applied it to a completely new setting.

anast23d ago

The hype would be insane if they announced Bloodborne 2.

Inverno23d ago

What if they made a Sekiro/Bloodborne mix?

I regret i never played it, like many other great games!! Still on my radar, when i become retro gamer in a year or two with all this gaas crap happening around

Psychonaut8526d ago

Absolutely. Amazing art design, and didn’t have the Bloodborne problem so it runs at 60FPS on newer hardware, which is amazing given the reaction based gameplay

Cacabunga26d ago

Wait did it get a next gen patch??

Sciurus_vulgaris26d ago

This one title that never clicked with me. I enjoyed Dark Souls, Demon Souls and Bloodborne, but I never warmed up to Sekiro’s parry-focused combat. I honestly gave up on the game at about the half way point.

Armyofdarkness26d ago

Me too. But after the Stellar Blade demo and parrying like crazy I’m tempted to go back and play this again

Inverno26d ago

Took me a couple years too get into when I first bought it. I had gotten so used to Bloodborne that the gameplay was genuinely confusing me. Picked it up a third time and clicked. The game is souls stripped of all its RPG elements and left with nothing but it's combat. It's Souls at its pureness but I can see why the combat would turn people off. That's why I liked it so much tho, without the choice of weapons it's very focused on a specific style. I think a sequel with a small selection of weapons but each fleshed out would be the right step.

Sciurus_vulgaris26d ago

My problem with Sekiro was the combat, I didn’t find it as engaging as Bloodborne, DarkSouls due to the lack of RPG elements. I even found action games like Ninja Gaiden 1-2 and Ghost of Tsushima more engaging as well.

The 7 Best Souls-Like Games - Mastering the Challenge

The Souls-like genre remains popular, along with FromSoftware's classics there are many contenders. But which are the best Souls-like games?

toxic-inferno34d ago

Hmm... In my opinion, the 7 best are the 6 made by FromSoftware (DeS, DS1, DS2, DS3, BB and ER), then Lies of P. But each to their own.

kevco3334d ago

Still DS1? You don't feel it's been surpassed yet?

Demon's Souls has the remake of course, but DS1 has surely been outdated?

Smellsforfree34d ago

I think that the DS1 remake is better looking than DS2. The interior lighting matched with the low resolution textures in DS2 is very garish, IMO.

Besides graphics, what do you mean by DS1 being "outdated"? I'm someone who played through Elden Ring and just recently played through the DS series, and as far as gameplay went, there were all very similar.

Cacabunga34d ago

I haven’t played many but Bloodborne and NIOH1 are on top of my list.. had a blast with these 2

toxic-inferno34d ago

For world design and interconnectedness (that's a word, right?) DS1 is yet to be beaten.

anast2d ago

All great games beside DS2.

toxic-inferno2d ago

I would agree, but there are some things in DS2 that are great and incredibly memorable. It tries to do things differently, and there are some amazingly cinematic moments.

Of course, there's also poor level design (particularly the interconnectivity of the world), questionable combat choices and some of the worst boss runs since the early days of video games...

anast2d ago

True. I can't disagree the game has some moments.
