The PlayStation 5 won't have much of an impact on the future of PC gaming

Next-generation consoles may help push PC gaming forward, eventually, but PCs are already well on their way.

kungfuian1831d ago

90% of the games created for pc will be bound by consoles as the economics of game creation dictats what can get made. The next gen systems will absolutely impact the future of pc gaming.

rainslacker1831d ago

Those bounds are usually determined by the actual GPU/CPU market. Most games are made to run on the lowest common denominator hardware. About the biggest thing that you get any difference on is graphics options.

Eonjay1830d ago

It must be noted that while consoles make up the majority of players the difference between console high and low end is usually not nearly as dramatic as high and low end on PC itself.

I find it odd that people like digital foundry don't do comparisons using the most common PC setups. The only do high end like that represents the actual public.

Consoles are the last thing that PC gamers need to be worried about when it comes to restraining PC.

rainslacker1830d ago

They don't do the comparisons, because PC owners are aware that different hardware is going to be different, and there just isn't much demand for it, since the console wars like stuff in the PC market are over different things. Although NVidia/AMD tends to get heated sometimes, but there are places that do compare those things.

PS5 will be more powerful than majority of PCs. The CPU, GPU and RAM memory increase will have big impact on the kind of games made for next generation. So the bare minimum for AAA games will increase and people will have to upgrade their PCs.

Razzer1830d ago (Edited 1830d ago )

"people will have to upgrade their PCs."

Sure. Some will. That is always the possibility as hardware gets older. But the most popular current configuration on Steam will suffice for quite some time. Games are going to be cross gen for while now that consoles are PCs.

Yes it will, especially when it comes to ray tracing. Hearing that sony has made it a focus means MS HAS to follow suit which pretty much rocket fuels its development and means well see better and more optimized iterations happen faster.

porkChop1831d ago

MS was going to do raytracing regardless. They developed DirectX Raytracing. They were obviously going to find a way to use that in their next gen systems.

paintedgamer19841831d ago (Edited 1831d ago )

Honestly though, whats the point of another console from MS?

Theyve already made it to where you dont even need an xbox to play any of their console exclusives to include Halo, one of their beloved series.

Now, they are doing exactly what they chastised Donnie D for doing... like it was ALL his fault lol. What a joke. Ill never understand why anyone defends MS. Is it because they are an American company?

Im so glad more and more gamers that were die hard xbox people are seeing what the rest of us have been seeing since way before the xb1 gen. They literally have to bend over with a thumbs up and a smile to get gamers to go to their platform.

And what was the point of this xb1sad... ive not seen one comment that wasnt negative or trolling... that thing is an abomination. They had MUCH greater positive momentum before the start of the xb1 gen... what type of miracle is it going to take for them to not get trolled out of existence when next gen starts?

Whatever they got cooking up... it better be a hell of a lot better than this entire 6-7 years. but somehow ms is gonna have the more beast console... for the same price or lose more than 100-200$ a console... For what? So 3rd party games can look nicer in 8k? So they can say THEY have the most powerful console... with no games.

When crap gamer started talking shit about xbox... that was something beautiful right there.

Im an avid podcast listener and over the past 3 years these are the xbox diehards that totally went blue over green

MS were gonna do a lot of things lol.

No one has said what type of Ray-tracing the PS5 will be able to do, will it be hardware or software? will there be a dedicated cores on die for Ray casting like the Nvidia cards? will it use AMD's compute cores in a patched up mess? The fact is we just do not know. I would like it to be Full Fat Hardware Ray casting but we just do not know at this point in time.

Can't wait to hear more.

What I was really hoping for from the PS5 was a move to mobile gameplay in addition to its focus on gaming. They have experience here and have the ability to stream. MS is no longer their only competition.

Right now you can play PS4 games on your phone with an app, why not release an official app that works on PCs, mobile phones and tablets. They could create their own mobile device similar to the Switch but make it a choice for those who would prefer a dedicated mobile gaming device. Those who don’t would have the option to play on anything they wanted. They could sell controllers for mobile platforms, and most importantly, begin to compete with Switch and Stadia.

And the funny thing is, all of this already exists. It wouldn’t take much to move it to the forefront of their platform. They remain the best place to play the best games in the world, and this would only make them that much stronger. And without costing all that much.

Switch shows why they won’t go that route . Maybe they will make a Vita2 companion device but you lose waaaaay to much power to do what’s Sony does game wise. Nintendo can get away with it as they don’t go for realistic looking games . But a Vita2 that can stream games from your PS5 would be dope. As soon as 5g is rolled out this will be more likely but even if they do it like the old Vita I’d be happy .

paintedgamer19841831d ago

Agreed. Im so excited for next gen. 5g is going to be revolutionary.

1nsomniac1830d ago (Edited 1830d ago )

5G is going to fail. I believe Chicago? Was the first state in America to run it. It eventually went to court and was holted due to safety concerns as it is proven to have adverse effects on your heart. It has also been banned in Brussels because it fails their radiation safety laws. Which means it will probably be banned in Sweden and maybe Brazil also. As I believe they’re quite up on their radiation laws too.

It has been proven that Chinese government has been spending big BIG money to American government and corporations to stop research and to force through policies which would make the details about its safety bypass any regulatory bodies.

Yes the idea of 5G is great but if you’re going to make colossal amounts of money knowingly damaging lives then it should fail before it’s even began.

paintedgamer19841831d ago

Why would they need to do that when next gen youll most likely have a way more modern version of ps+/now where as long as you own a playstation5 youll be able to stream OR download games to a phone or tablet. I did hear a rumor that the ds5 will break apart to double as psvr remotes, but also have the ability to attach a proprietary sony like tablet for mobile gaming. But like i said, if they put their games on all devices there would literally be no reason for that
