The Best Version of Every Final Fantasy Game

Some Final Fantasy games have remakes of their remakes. What's the definitive version of each single-player mainline installment? Let us help you.

Originals emulated on PC. 1080p/100+ fps, AA, AF, texture smoothing, custom shaders, etc.

Honestly, until like 11 onwards, I'd say 100fps is pretty pointless in these. Even in 12 it is. It would be beneficial in 13 on wards since the on screen action is alot more entertaining.

But honestly, definitely is beneficial for things like the PSP FFI, FFII and FFIV being able to upscale the game and smooth it

That's...not right.

FF 7, 8, 9, 13 trillogy, 14 and 15 have PC ports that are *far* easier to mod than the origionals and thus look far better. Also they run natively at 1080p, and require less CPU grunt to do it.

FF10/10-2 and 12 have full remasters available on PC, with most of those same benefits + new high res texures and additional features besides.

For FFs 1-6, rendering at a super high resolution doesn't do anything anyways, it's sprite art. That's the thing about sprite art,it doesn't really benefit from being higher resolution that it was designed to run at . Similarly, AA and texture smothing also do *basically* nothing.

FF12, it's definitely PC for me because Ultrawide support. Same with FFXV, for FFXIII as well FFXIV and FFXI obviously lol.

Lets see
FFI - PSP
FFII - PSP
FFIII - trash I don't like it anywhere, but if any version. PC or PSP
FFIV - PSP (was so annoyed when they used the 3D DS version for the Steam release)
FFV - What versions does it have? I've only played the PSOne version. I know it has a PC version, but don't like those ugly new sprites personally, so PSOne? SNES has a localized version at all? If so that, because I know the SNES usually has better sounding music
FFVI - I've only tried on Steam SNES and PSOne, SNES is preferred for me
FFVII - Honestly, I kinda like cheats for grinding on the new versions. Graphics are so bad though that I kinda like looking at the PSOne version over the smoother looking one. Makes you realize how dated it is. But Steam, unless it's tamper proof, then I'd go PS4 since I would prefer Trophies. But if not. Then Switch
FFVIII - Hate all versions equally, but I hear the PC versions bad so PS One Classic?
FFIX - I love all versions, I'd love to say switch, but I like Trophies and achievements so not for me. PC wins because more possibilities Then PS4
FFX - Meh, I don't care much, but I'd probably go with Vita since I like trophies and it's not a big deal to miss out on the extra features of the Current gen versions/PC. Literally Trophies and portable together as I'm not going to sit at home and actually play FFX. Love the story but the combat is boring.
FFXI - PC
FFXII - PC (Literally because I love ultrawide and it's supported in this game)
FFXIII - PC port isn't that good but still 60fps and 4K is a win in my books even if it's not perfect and you need hardware that's way more than needed to get smooth frames. My 1080 is perfect, but 1060 wasn't lol. Otherwise, 1X or PS3 depending on what you want, but X is more sensible
FFXIV - Ultrawide gives you so much more UI space and doesn't clutter plus just perfect for it honestly
FFXV - While not the most optimized game on PC, a 1080, 8700K and 16GB of ram can't hold a locked 60 at 1080p+ Ultrawide on max unless you turn off the extra settings like hairworks. vMod support is great in FFXV

The other games... Where ever lol
