Second verse, same as the first: Music game makers need to "innovate and differentiate," writes the G&M

Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2's many similarities are more of a hindrance than a benefit, writes the Globe & Mail, suggesting that players will settle on one or the other, but probably not both.

"Unlike other genres, which offer up widely varying narratives and game types, these rock simulators are so analogous that there is little reason to buy one if you already have the other (unless you're just dying to play certain exclusive tracks).

That could ultimately pose a problem for the rock game industry. Whereas it's common for gamers who enjoy shooters and role-playing games to consume half a dozen or more of these games in a year, many music game lovers will be satisfied playing just one title in their chosen genre, and decide not buy another until the sequel comes out a year later, if even then."
