ButtonMasher: Gears of War 2 Review

ButtonMasher writes: Overall Gears of War 2 is a far more complete package. The single player campaign has a great story with emotion, twists and lots of answers, but like any great story it also make you think about what could have caused the situations to arise and wonder what will happen next. Gears has always been touted as a trilogy and while it is obvious at the end of the game that there is more to come, it doesn't leave you with some unsatisfying soap opera ending, you do feel rewarded after completing it. With the package now including more multiplayer modes maps and weapons and a far more enriched single player campaign, it is in every way a better game than the first, perhaps not as technically impressive compared to its competition but a better game none the less.

So, Resistance 2 looks better... I could have told you that though.

None of the Resistance 2 videos that I have seen (or the beta that I played) have impressed me with the graphics. In fact, Resistance 2's graphics barely look "current gen" as far as I'm concerned, and don't even look as good as the 1st Gears of War.

I'm not saying that as a fanboy (I own a PS3) it's just that I really don't see the "amazing" graphics that so many people are carrying on about.

Agreed on the graphical front. But R2 does feature a more "technicallY impressive" array of "real" hordes, as well as a more impressive multiplayer, or coop mode. So not too far from the author's assertion, though for different reasons from Mitchell.

SRU96004026d ago

Yes, I agree that Resistance 2 has an impressive list of technical achievements.

I simply took exception to Mitchell's assertion that Resistance 2 unquestionably looks better than Gears of War 2.

PirateThom4026d ago

It depends what you mean by "looks better". Resistance 2 has much better draw distances, colours and scale while Gears of War 2 has better close detail, maybe an edge in character models and textures.

In the end, comparing the two from a graphical standpoint is completely redundant anyway, since they went for two completely different graphical achievements.

From a technical point of view, hmmm... I don't want to even start on that for fear of some fanboy revolt!:P

Guys guys guys, they both look good, what seems to be the problem?

@Piratethom
If you won't do it, someone else will... Go for it go go go go!.

Honestly these discussions have been talked to dead.
I'm waiting for Team Ico to sh/t something awesome on the PS3.( and that was meant in a positive way xD)

Why are you trying to start a war? 1.)Technically impressive does not necessarily equal graphics....it could mean that there are other games were all the elements come together better. Did you stop to think why they did not just say graphics, if it was suppose to mean graphics? 2.)Perhaps I missed it, but I did not see Resistance 2 in the article.....so therefore you are making the assumption that it was in comparison to Resistance 2....when in fact their are tons of other games out there as competition. Putting those two points together, and what we have is you trying to start an argument.

Gears of War 2 should stand out as one of the best-looking titles on any console.

Arcturus4026d ago
