Adding an Easy Mode to Sekiro Isn't Easy & It'd Affect Everyone

Heated debate has surfaced about Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and its difficulty. Yet, it tends to be an emotional argument, rather than rational.

They should put a warning on the box that just says 'GIT GUD!!!'

Problem solved.

Abriael2224d ago

I can only imagine the mass triggering.

FullmetalRoyale2223d ago

Add it to the ESRB system. This game contains violence, alchohol references, and might present you with situations that might challenge you mentally.

UltraNova2223d ago

*The game might induce mild to severe easy mode cravings

uth112223d ago

Should be listed under requirements

- 8Gb Ram
- GTX 1050 or better
- Git Gud

artsaber2223d ago

How about a label saying “All Enemies use Aimbots”?

SpinalRemains1382222d ago

There is a warning. It says From Software.

Adding easy mode to this kind of game would undoubtedly affect the balance of the main difficulty as well.

DillyDilly2223d ago

No it wouldnt since it could be a menu option & the original mode would be unchanged & just give it a fancy name its called OPTIONS for those that want it

Shikoku2223d ago

Yep these people just want to belong to a "special" club where they can say "I platinumed a souls game" and then somehow feel better about themselves, like video game skills mean something in real life.

AspiringProGenji2223d ago (Edited 2223d ago )

'' like video game skills mean something in real life''

Actually, Video Games skills do mean something in real life. Surgeons who play games have better success rates and fewer errors than those who don't

https://www.medicalbag.com/...

An easy mode would ruin the philosophy of Sekiro and the souls game design and it would alienate the fanbase who have stuck with this philosophy and have given their best to beat the games. Giving an easy mode for scrubs will ruin this sense of accomplishment and design of the game. The game already has tons of options to make your play through easier, but you have to work for it, not having a menu that does it for you. That is not how Souls games work

Part of what makes their games special is that it's not for everyone, but that doesn't mean everyone can't play it. Anyone who dares to play their games must accept the challenge and not cry about difficulty.

thatguyhayat2223d ago

Didn't they have more games in development. If they're complaining the games too hard, imagine what their next game would be like. I hope they make it twice as hard just to annoy people

UltraNova2223d ago

You've just struck gold! They should make the game twice as hard and add an "easy" mode that brings the difficulty down to Sekiro level.

Best trolling ever!

thatguyhayat2223d ago

Lol yep i want to see rage compilations on YouTube. Sekiro rages are jokes. All you gotta do is time the parrys its hard at first but you'll get the hang of it

Harryvok2223d ago

I hope they do too and it sells less copies.

TheEnigma3132223d ago

They have been fine so far. The real fans support them not you casuals.

remixx1162223d ago

Why be an asshole, why would you want a Devs game to fail just because it's to hard for you??

TheEnigma3132223d ago (Edited 2223d ago )

Look at from softwares track record? Their games have sold very well and most people think they're too hard. You're just trash at the game that's all.

Dragonscale2223d ago

Nah it'd sell more copies.

Harryvok2223d ago

Keep in mind here you people are whinging I’m saying I hope it sells less copies for purposely making it harder just to piss people off. So doing it to piss people off is fine, but me saying I hope it fails for doing that makes me wrong. Hypocrites.

I was thinking something similar. I hope Ghost of Tsushima is brutal.

Harryvok2223d ago

Easy mode - Increases window timing for parry and dodge. Increases damage dealt to enemies. Reduces damage received from enemies. Problem solved.

Stop lying that ‘it would affect everyone’. Just admit you’re an elitist who gets personal joy out of the game being too hard for some people. Just be honest about your shitty attitude.

Having said that, the developer has no obligation to add an easy mode, even though it would probably expand the player base of the game and may increase sales.

AnubisG2223d ago

You will be attacked and called names for speaking the truth by these elitists on this site. I agree with you a 100%. I even proposed that if they add an easy mode, disable the trophies so the elitists stoo crying and people who aren't good in games like this but would love to play it could enjoy it. But apparently they aren't allowed to because somehow it would ruin the life of some people if Sekiro get's an easy mode.

Harryvok2223d ago

If easy mode is added after the ‘vision’ of the game is complete (in a manner like I suggested) it’s ridiculous to say it somehow ‘affects everyone’.

Completely agree, remove trophies and then there’s zero argument.

I’m not a huge ‘hard mode’ gamer, but I got through Dark Souls 3 and could not give a crap if someone else did it on an easier mode with more health, less damage and bigger windows for blocking and dodging.

Elitist attitude and nothing more.

SpineSaw2223d ago

I think those that have taken the time to "GIT GUD" would take being called "elitest" or anything else you want to call them. When one completes a SoulsBorne game you are in a elite group as not many do so, not many can. But asking for a "easy mode" makes one entitled someone that is begging for a handout and this is not the SoulsBourns way. One must find within oneself a way to seek wisdom and knowledge and put forth the time it takes to Git Gud and, and if one seeks with open mind and heart one will receive. Seek no more the handouts that makes one weak and lazy and if after months, years of seeking and praying for the gift of Git Gud and you do not receive the blessings then this challenge is not for you. Be bothered by this no more as you have options. You can give this problem away, you can throw it away, sell it. Choosing any of those options and you are troubled with this problem no more and you can rest in peace...........You Died!

artsaber2223d ago

@SpineSaw - But all of the “Git Gudders” used the Easy Mode in Souls games via Summons. They Summoned Help instead of defeating the bosses 1 on 1 as Sekiro requires. All of these new “purist” Eliters are liars, and refuse to admit they DID use Easy mode in Souls and whine about how ridiculous a similar request for Sekiro is - the hypocrisy of it all.

notachance2223d ago

if they ever add it, the proper name would be "impatient mode"

with the way From Soft games are currently, normal *newbie* playthrough would take 20-30 hours, even faster for soulsborne veteran. These games don't actually requires you to git gud, they require you to learn the damn movesets and not panicking when the attack comes. I'm an old man with reflex as slow as a turtle and I've stayed away from twitch shooters because of this, yet I've been playing these supposed hard game just fine.

If they ever add the "impatient mode" which enables you to defeat everything without properly knowing its attack pattern you'd be finished with the game in even shorter time than playing Uncharted games, and the next whining topic would be "from soft games is too short for $60 price".

TheEnigma3132223d ago

That's exactly what they would say. "it's just a generic hack and slash"

pabadamus12223d ago

From old man to old man...exactly. This game wasn't made with scaling difficulty in mind. Those design considerations would have had too been made from the outset. Lowering the difficulty would most likely break the game and expose some not so laudable design choices that are otherwise overshadowed by this "difficulty." There is no need for elite, fast twitch skill here...just patience, good observation and decision making skills.

Psychotica2223d ago

"an elitist who gets personal joy out of the game being too hard for some people" - So? doing things other people can't is part of the satisfaction for a lot of things. It's part of the allure to this game, a badge of honor so to speak that you are included in the group that can beat it.

AspiringProGenji2223d ago

I rather be an elitist being good at something rather than crying for an easy mode. If I am good at something, i deserve to be arrogant about it because I earned it.

uth112223d ago

@Aspiring - in a culture where elitism is based on what school you went to and now that it's been revealed how much people cheat and bribe their way into those schools.. well i guess it's no surprise that the idea of elitism based on actual talent is increasingly derrided by such people

Harryvok2223d ago

Nah, an elitist attitude is an asshole attitude.

neoandrew2223d ago

Its even easier, if those bosses would have reduced damage it would be enough to make an easier mode as this is literally it, ppl complains only about the bosses difficulty the rest of the game is not that hard really.
Sekiro have a very cheap hard difficulty, u do a lot less damage to bosses than they, if u reduce their damage its easy as hell.

AspiringProGenji2223d ago

“Increases window timing for parry and dodge. Increases damage dealt to enemies. Reduces damage received from enemies. Problem solved”

The game already does this. There are items, abilities, amd other stuff that buff your character. Do you really need an easy mode to further dumb down the challenge? Why should sekiro be a generic hack n slash or have generic difficulty like other games?

Just no! Learn the damn game and stop crying

Harryvok2223d ago

And this is where the elitist attitude shows through perfectly. It WOULD NOT AFFECT YOU if that mode was added. You have zero good arguments against it as that experience for someone else would not affect your experience in ANY WAY.

Stop hiding behind a shitty elitist attitude.

Abriael2223d ago

Yes. It's too hard for someone.

As a matter of fact, it's too hard for me.

Yet I don't whine and demand it to be made easier for my sake.

Your idea of an easy mode being easy to implement simply shows that you know nothing of game development, which is pretty literally the "shitty attitude" here.

Harryvok2223d ago

Oh I’m sorry GAMES MASTER. These sorts of changes have been added to games before and will be added in the future. Stop kidding yourself.

And honestly, I have no interest in playing the game. I got bored of this genre after finishing Dark souls 3. But I see perfectly how and why people want an easy mode.

Abriael2222d ago

@Harryvok: so you don't even care about the game. Yours is simply a political stance with zero substance behind it.

Gotcha. At least you admit it.

Dragonscale2223d ago

Oh that'd be so easy to implement, it wouldn't cost more time and resources etc. So simple /s.

nibblo2223d ago

You are totally right just wish people would admit it instead of all these "everyone loses" articles. You are also correct about From Software, it is their game and if they don't want to add an easier mode that is their right to do so, no one should force them but it would be simple change probably adding the new menu item in the UI would be the hardest thing.

The negative would be the game would lose a lot of its reputation amongst the elitist and game reviewers and they wouldn't feel special any more and From Software knows that's where a lot of it's reputation hangs so it won't do it, in fact people calling for an easy mode probably raises it's reputation as a game only the hard core play and complete.

AspiringProGenji2222d ago (Edited 2222d ago )

I do have a very good argument for not adding an easy mode

Soulsborne game are known for their challenging gameplay, not storyline, not graphics, none of that... Its challenging gameplay is what has built a community of elite players since Demons Souls. The fact that everyone in this community have proven their worth, duscuss, and make memes about their struggles in their adventures is what makes this community special. That is what the uniqueness of the Souls genre has created

You take what makes From Soft games unique away by adding easier difficulties, and all of that goes down the toilet. The sense of accomplishment is compromised, and beating a souls game won’t be any different from beating a yearly Assassins creed game. The point of the Souls game is everyone to be disciplined and play the game at the same odds, not having someone said they beat the game on easy while you are stuck in a boss for an hour. Now, this is not race, but it still takes away from the magic that souls game have created

I love this community and you know what? They are right to tell anyone to git gud when new players come out of nowhere when they blame “sloppy combat or animations” for their failures in the game. That was a common complaint last gen (and still present today but less) when none of them understood that part of that design choice added to the difficulty and uniqueness of the game. It made sure players be disciplined and methodical. Now, add an easy mode and hype the game for the mainstream and you will have lots of noobs saying the same thing and not having the same level of appreciation that the hardcore players do.

I love this community because its full of elite players. The last thing I know is Fortnite kids swarming this community and ruin it all thanks to “accessibility.”

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Review

NoobFeed editor Ahnaf Tajwar writes - FromSoftware cooked up one of the best combat systems with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and never did anything like it again. That may be a good thing, as it makes this game one of a kind. If you are a fan of Souls games or a borderline masochist, you will, without a doubt, love Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice because it is a masterpiece. It is a must-play for all hardcore gamers.
