Kingdom Hearts 4 may not be worth waiting for after all

With Kingdom Hearts 4’s development likely well under way, gamers should all be asking themselves if the long wait for its release will even be worth it.

That verum rex kinda gave me the hype but since theyre trying to tie in all that union x bs, put in more disney, getting rid of final fantasy, and how bad 3 overall was...Ive kinda lost hope in kh ever being great again. Ill be looking forward to 4 but just wont have all the levels of hype for any kh game again.

I agree with everything you said except the khux part. I think khux has the best story so far, but they really need to move it on console. And since it still has some ways to go now would be the perfect time for them to make the leap as there's still a lot of story to be told from that era.

In addition to what you said, they also really have to work on their pacing. I had zero appreciation of the fact that I had to storm through Disney to find out what happens, then play the game again to enjoy Disney.

How can you say 3 was overall bad? It was overall good with some bad parts that could have been better, not vice versa. The level of hype you had was probably so high that it could have never lived up.

I wasn't hyped for the game and I found it to be a meh experience overall all, and I really enjoyed the first two games.

The game play was pretty good. The story, and pacing were terrible, and mostly a let down compared to prior games where there was at least some purpose to going to all those other worlds, and those worlds stories were somewhat connected to the overall KH story going on. In this game, they were mostly just retellings or maybe mini-sequels to the original Disney/Pixar stories, but ultimately, there was no actual connection to the goings on of OrgXIII or Xehanort and all his clone thingies. Half the actual KH story narrative was just explaining how all this stuff happened in the past, because they had so many games across multiple platforms, but they decided to make them all rather instrumental in many of the things happening in the last game. Except they couldn't bother to have Namine in there, and Roxus only shows up at the last minute, to not really do anything except perform some Deus Ex Machina moment, smile, then have nothing to do otherwise.

Pretty sure it will be a long way off, but rather ridiculous notion to not want to play a future release. It's a good game, not an excellent game, and fun to play compared to the tide of dross titles that are constantly released. So, taking into consideration it takes years now to make a quality game, and that it could be years till 4 gets a release, don't wish away a potential good game so rashly.. otherwise you might have nothing to look forward to playing at all.

What I find more ridiculous is why are these people "gauging the worth of wait" what does that even mean. Well I waited for KH3 to come out but "the wait doesn't increase or decrease the games worth in anyway".

I'd understand this "worth the wait" thing if you made a pact to not "play any other game" until the sequel comes out or something like that.

We can only hope that next gen is samey tech wise that way they can reuse assets in some way making it like an Ass Creed game coming out sooner and still being this massive overhaul game with a new setting.

If there is anything to look forward to, it's that they can maybe simplify the plot, and remove the numerous sub plots which I feel bogged down the finale of the current saga. most of OrgXIII won't be necessary, nor any of the Xehanort stuff and all his varients. A more focused story would actually be a good thing, because I think if you asked people exactly what Kingdom Hearts was, they'd have no clue. At the end of the first game, it was light. Then it was about being able to control people. Then it's about having access to the power of something or another, then its just something random. I always found it kind of weird they made it into all these things but it was always vaguely defined.

I think at this point I would rather have a reboot KH game. The plot in the current KH games is like spiderwebs and I doubt the developers can even remember everything happen in the game and its sequel.

I think they forgot that Kingdom Hearts is light. Whatever that means. They surely didn't explain it in any of the follow up games. Instead, we got this huge cacophony of secret orginzations, which had members who were someone, except they were also someone else, who also had things which were part of them because of some reason or another, but they weren't heartless, but they had no heart because they gave it up, or they were just vessels because they put that given up heart into a vessel. Then you have fake programs to mimic those people, who were important, until they weren't. Then you had just one keyblade master, until you had hundreds. So on and so forth.

The basic story was never really hard to understand, it's pretty simple really. They just made it so convoluted, and published the games across multiple platforms that didn't always have people playing all the games which were somehow now important for the third game, and it just ends up being a mess of narrative, where more time is spent explaining what's going on, than actually having something going on, only to rush the climax to close off all these threads that weren't really necessary in the first place. Couple this with most of the Disney/Pixar worlds being completely irrelevant to any of what's going on, or what happened in the past, and it makes for a bad story. Hell, they couldn't even be bothered to have a Winnie the Pooh storyline, and those were always pretty nice.

After the secret ending Id be lying if I said I wasn't excited to see what's next. But playing through KH3 a second time, I can wait. They really needa take their time, this series deserves much more care than they've been giving to it. Personally I'd like a reboot, feel it's needed if only to make the story less of a mess

Part of the reason it needs more time is the strict guidelines from Disney and Pixar. Its part of the reason why Toy Story, Monsters Inc were new settings and Frozen you did jack shit. Each company has their set of rules and it took them 2 years to finalize what Toy Story would be like. Even if we get a reboot Disney will still have that massive red tape blocking whoever would take over KH next.

Disney seemed pretty chill with previous games. I think Pixar was the one being too strict. You fought no Pixar villain, but in the Pirates world (SPOILER) it was ok for Sora to punch Jones. If they can't have any creative freedom with Pixar worlds then I rather they not add em in

I seriously hate how they didn’t flesh out more of the story in KH3. Instead of having Roxas talk with Ventus, Riku talk with Terra, Riku talk with Kairi, Roxas talk with Namine, Xion talk with Namine, etc we have dialogue and scenes dedicated to nothing but sequel baiting some nameless girl in a lab experiment

If you’re not going to include Final Fantasy characters than you better damn well make sure all the original characters converse with each other instead of backending the major plot. Roxas & Ventus giving each other a mere glance towards the end is insulting and shows how unevenly paced the story is.
