"How do you improve on relative perfection? The 2K games are generally regarded as the finest of their genre, by the people who play them most, the fans, and when it comes down to it, those are the one's who really matter the most. While it's always of benefit to appeal to non-basketball fans, at the end of the day, the focus must be on retaining the appeal to the ones who already buy the games. And 2K9 does exactly what it sets out to, retaining the same level of excellence we've come to expect, keeping everything that made it work, and introducing enough new touches to make this new version feel fresh. If you're a fan of the series, this title is what you'd expect, and a touch more. And if you're new to basketball games, there's no better place to start. However, as a simulation sports game, rather than an arcade style sports game, 2K9 may not appeal to the casual player. In their case, I'd recommend a title like NBA Homecourt, which is more action orientated, with a much more pick-up-and-play feel to it, whereas the 2K series, as rewarding an experience as it is to play and spend time honing your skills and developing your team strategies, is more for those in the know."
