I love Bloodborne and the Souls series but this game is WAY more difficult than it needs to be. It should at least have co op, I doubt half the people who bought this will be able to progress past this boss. Its a damn shame too because I really like every other aspect of the game. Bloodborne/Dark Souls had a reasonable challenge level but this game is unfair to the point that it ruins the fun. I have no idea how Activision signed off on such a hardcore game.

walruskiller2266d ago

I was having a hard time with the game because of all the muscle memory I have from souls/bloodborne. If you learn to play the game with parrying in mind it is much easier. It's very hard to not try and play it like other soulsborne games

Vegamyster2266d ago

Pretty much, the combat is amazing once you get used to the new systems.

Dspdspes2266d ago

Exactly. Always triyng to dodge after attacking got me hit everytime.... Till i started to parry. Now the normal enemies have become easier.

TheOptimist2266d ago

I am not a Souls veteran in spite of having played these games for about 60 hours and I no-hit past her first phase after like 15 tries. Her second phase is annoying though with the projectiles. But it becomes easy.

notachance2266d ago

I platinumed DS series and Bloodborne and I think the muscle memory I got actually makes the game harder, I always tried to dodge first / parry second. When I changed my approach and put parry/deflect as my main defense it gets easier.. also there's a skill later in the game where you got healed for performing deathblows, it helps a whole lot.

That's interesting to hear, I haven't gotten my hands on Sekiro yet, but my friend's been going on about it since release now, and his only complaint, which isn't even meant as a complaint, is that it's nowhere near as difficult as Bloodborne or Souls :O

UltraNova2266d ago

Your friend is nowhere near correct. The game is quite a bit more difficult than all four Soulsborne games with the exception of the first 10hrs of Demon Souls back in the day.

I'm 15-20 hrs in, have almost completely shed my soulsborne muscle memory and I'm now fully deflecting all normal enemies and some mini-bosses but man...oh man main bosses are a bitch...I haven't been tested like this since my first couple hrs in Demons...

Lord oh mighty this game will be the end of me...and that's why I'm totally in love with it.

Quote "Bloodborne/Dark Souls had a reasonable challenge level ..."

I hear alot of people say that, but actually when Dark Souls came out that was not at all what people said. They said the same thing as you're saying now about Sekiro - "this game is unfair to the point that it ruins the fun"

Gamers had to adapt to the SoulsBourne games, and once they did alot more were able to get through it, becaue they realised you can't play the game like a 3rd person hack'n slash, you will get owned again and again if you approach it that way.

The same is true here. If you approach this game like SoulsBourne - you will get owned. You have to learn how to stand your ground and deflect, parry, jump and evade. Once you get into that rhythm , the game becomes much more accessible.

TheEnigma3132266d ago

That’s the issue, people are playing it like ds. They’re having the wrong approach and being punished for it. The game subtly let’s you know this isn’t ds/bourn.

TheEnigma3132266d ago

You can’t play it like the souls games; that’s the issue. The game is based on parry.

Sorry but I not playing this game. This isn't for me. Like the style and gameplay but it's too difficult.

I am loving all the boss fights in this game. Really well done and there is a great sense of satisfaction when you are victorious.

Oh God the suspense is killing me...

LoveSpuds2266d ago

I don't understand all the complaints about difficulty at all.

You just need to train yourself to parry instead of step dodging, it was this fight where it all fell into place with me.

For me the animation in these games is incredible and really does signal the kind of incoming attack allowing you to decide how to deal with it. It's fast becoming my favourite game of 2019 so far.

ArchangelMike2265d ago

I still haven't bested Lady butterfly, but it was in confronting Lord Gyoubu that it really clicked for me. If you try and avoid him you will get nowhere. When I realised he was easy to read, and was telegraphing all his moves - I defeated him without even resurrecting once.

Don't get me wrong though, I died plenty times when I was trying to just hack and slash at him, but you have to deflect his attacks to get a chance to open him up to a counter attack.

Now I just have to figure out that flaming bull.... or go back and try to sweet talk Lady Butterfly!

LoveSpuds2265d ago

Yeah, I had trouble with the bull, I would say that strategically, he was very different insofar as, it's all about step dodging rather than parrying.

I had a boss fight last night that took a good 10 attempts and I can appreciate people getting frustrated however, it felt like every other From title to me, I got better each time, picking up more of his tells and working out where my opportunity to attack was. The other thing that cas consistent with other From titles was the sense of achievement when I beat a tough boss.

Cannot get enough of Sekiro at the moment, when the combat 'clicks' for you, there is no better feeling.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Review

NoobFeed editor Ahnaf Tajwar writes - FromSoftware cooked up one of the best combat systems with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and never did anything like it again. That may be a good thing, as it makes this game one of a kind. If you are a fan of Souls games or a borderline masochist, you will, without a doubt, love Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice because it is a masterpiece. It is a must-play for all hardcore gamers.

Hells yeah. Would love to see another really tight action focused title next. Be cool if he did something completely different, like a cyborg-ninja game.
