Turok: Dinosaur Hunter [Remaster] (Nintendo Switch) Review | GamePitt

Rob Pitt writes: Turok: Dinosaur Hunter has returned! I know a lot of people claim Mario and Link are the Nintendo mascots, but back on the N64 I would personally have placed Turok himself within the list of the infamous faces you can relate to a product.

Four main games and a spin-off were released on Nintendo consoles, Turok, Turok 2, Turok 3, Turok: Evolution, and Turok: Rage Wars (which was my favourite) before it was pretty much rebooted into the 2008 edition on the Xbox 360 and PS3.

However, the original Turok: Dinosaur Hunter is an iconic game which almost every N64 owner I knew owned a copy of.

Turok movies would be awesome.

Can't be any worse than the 2008 reboot game!

God the graphics are awful but it’s they nailed the movement and crosshairs. Fun to play. Can’t wait for Turok 2.

rob-GP2238d ago

Yeah, they kept it very authentic but they did add a few modern enhancements to the game over the pc and N64 original. The motion contols work perfectly though, once I was used to them it was like second nature moving my hands to get in some precision aiming

Neonridr2238d ago

remember when this was considered cutting edge graphics? lol

"Seriously, I’ve not felt like I had this much control over my aiming within a console game (outside of VR) since I played the Call of Duty games on the Wii and Wii U with the Wiimotes."

Jesus christ.

Turok is awesome though, big fan.

True though - the combination of the gyroscope motion controls and using the control sticks to look around, makes it much easier to aim than you'd think. Especially when the game has decent size hitboxes but no auto-aim like we see in modern games. In most console games these days, if you aim 'near' the enemy then the game will compensate and just kill the enemy for you - It's hard to describe, but it's like using a keyboard and mouse yet using the controller and hand movements.

I do miss playing the Call of Duty games with the Wiimotes though! I wish the newer ones would support the Move controllers on the PS4, or even the VR Aim controller. That would be cool.

Just flashed back to sketching the Turok logo on a sheet of white printer paper with a pencil as a kid. =0

Turok: A Game Series in Need of a Reboot

The Turok series has been languishing without a new title for more than a decade. It's about time we got a reboot.

I'm all for it, I loved the originals... I just don't think, just like w the original Prey, that the main character can survive in this current political climate. Native characters seem untouchable at the moment. I think it can be shown the right respect, but there's always someone getting upset about something these days, they would find a way to cancel it.

BriBri716d ago

I can't think of a game that's been cancelled because of the race of the main character.

Vits716d ago

Honestly, I would prefer if they just ported/remastered Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion to modern platforms. So we could have access to the "original 3 games". Because I don't see how to really reboot Turok. It's a product of its time being a mixture of platforming/fps and puzzle.

And I really don't see all those elements being preserved on a Reboot.

lukasmain716d ago

I would prefer Dino Crisis remake from Capcom. Still, a remade Turok would get my attention.

Forgets about the 2008 reboot*
I'd rather have a sequel to Turok 3, tbh.

GoodGuy09716d ago (Edited 716d ago )

We unfortunately do not have enough quality dino games. Theres Horizon but they're robots, and Monster Hunter that I can only think of. I'd like to see Turok make a comeback some day.

This game came out at the perfect time for me as a kid because was still big into dinosaurs so I played Turok religiously at times. It was also the first 3D FPS I ever played.

SeTTriP1160d ago

This game was ahead of its time

Easily the best shooters to be had on console before Halo came.

I know Goldeneye is the one always brought up, but this just played well by comparison.

Dinosaur-Themed Video Games Were Once Incredibly Popular. What Happened?

Dinosaur-themed games like Dino Crisis and Turok were everywhere in the late 90s and early 2000s. What happened to this once popular sub-genre?

GaboonViper1425d ago

Would kill for a new Turok and Dino Crisis.

sourOG1425d ago (Edited 1425d ago )

How is it different than any other genre? They milk it for everything it’s worth and oversaturate the market, kill the interest and move on to the next. Then they bring it back after a hiatus.

ZeekQuattro1424d ago

Zombie themed videogames took over.
