Should Console Cross-Play Be the Standard?

No. Epic Games pulling Switch from Xbox One and PS4 crossplay because of an unfair advantage shows that it could become a problem based off different hardware performance and control methods.

They didn't pull the Switch from Xbox one and PS4 crossplay , they changed the matchmaking pools. You can still crossplay with PS4 and Xbox one on Switch.

I don't get how anyone wouldn't want crossplay for third party games. Should everyone have to buy two consoles and two or three copies of the game?

There's plenty of crossplay games that work perfectly. Crossplay is a good, amazing thing for us consumers and gamers.

All PCs have different performance and control methods, are you saying PC gaming as we know it is broken and gives people advantages over others?

It's one of the great things and annoying things about pc gaming. Yes a lot of pc gamers have an advantage over other pc gamers. If someone is playing battlefield at 120fps with their GTX 2080 and someone is playing at 30 with their old GTX 660ti then of course the one playing at 120 is going to have the advantage.

However, Unlike console players the one playing at 30fps with a 660ti has the option of upgrading the GPU at anytime they want/afford to and fix the issue.

I just bought a second Nintendo Switch so I could play co-op Stardew Valley with my daughter. Would have been nice to cross play with PC or PS4 instead of buying a second Switch.

Only if it benefited each hardware manufacturer equally, software developers equally. And, each gamer equally.

It's still funny though that a company that champions cross play, has less cross play games than the one they are targeting to create negative PR on.

That same company still puts free to play games behind a pay wall and we see there's still no outrage by the fans that call one company anti consumer.

If that company was so Gung Ho about cross play, they would be cross playing with Steam or Nintendo with as many titles as possible instead of trying to force the market leader to open the flood gates to keep their own game community from dying.

Would this very company be offering cross play if their positions were reversed? I mean, this is the same company that not too long ago, wanted to take away your game ownership, require you to be connected to the Internet 24/7 and watch you with a camera to control what can be watched and by how many people while advertising to you.

And before that, sold a busted system at such a high rate of failure and knew about it. And started us on the road of paying to play online. And was the first to jack up the price on it. But there are those that think they don't have an ulterior motive.

Your post is not good. Not coming at you in any shape or form, but all these companies have no problem with each other, they would go on stage with each other and even talk and play games with each other.

Those 3 companies focus is making money at the end of the day. Two of the companies have nothing to lose by doing cross play, while one company worry.

There is no motive beside money for all 3 company.

To be fair PS4 does have the most crossplayable games amongst consoles. If Capcom made it happen and implemented it pretty sure Sony would be okay with PS4 and PC crossplay.

No. I have always viewed Nintendo as kids and hardcore Mario and Zelda fans. The Xbox is teens and kids predominantly. Ps is adults and the older Nintendo and Atari fans that age with as gaming got older. Now that is my opinion but I could be wrong.

Saying all that I don't want to play with idiots that blare.music and racist homophobic teens and that 8 your old screeching into the Mic and the crying baby in the background. I work for a living and i don't have time for all that crap. I want to play with my age group. And yes some of them are annoying too. Muting everyone in an objective game sucks. Each console is like a filter on age groups to me.

I know for a fact that where I live in England, the PlayStation 4 is the most common console amongst children and teens. That's what they all have.

95 million PS4 gamers about half of them or more are children. It's the most popular console. All I ever see is kids unboxing PS4s and going ape shit over the fact they can now play Fortnite with the rest of their chums.

Personally, I think all systems have a mix of adults and kids, and most online o do participate in really doesn't have that many people talking. When people do, they do tend to be older, and I see less of the bad seeds than what would be implied by the community at large. But I dont play mp often, so my viewpoint may be skewed

It should depend on the game if it's free to play and whether or not there are unfair disadvantages to doing cross play across the board, Sony has been doing Cross play with PC for a while so I don't particularly care if they do or don't. I feel like this has become a talking point for those that wish to throw shade but like BC it's not all that important to many people.

Most definitely. More and more games are online only multiplayer games that depend on large player bases. Its pro-gamer and pro-developer and there is absolutely no good reason for it not to happen. The only people that disagree are all the rabid PS fanboys on this toxic website

Yes, whenever possible. More consoles, means more players, which means online thrives longer. These are not meant to be real numbers, just as an example. 70 million PS4's 30 million Xbox One's 20 Million Switches, That means 120, million combined consoles, for gaming as opposed to the Max of 70 million ATM. If the Switch can not handle crossplay, that is acceptable. It is a fantastic system, but I would not want to play online, if Xbox and PlayStation users, had an advantage. That still means PlayStation and Xbox, players should be able to play together. Again, it extends the life of online.
