PS4 vs PS3 in Japan – VGChartz Gap Charts – January 2019 Update

January 2019 is the 60th month of the PlayStation 4 being on sale in Japan. The gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 by 99,677 units in the last month and in favor of the PlayStation 4 by 97,144 units in the last 12 months. The PlayStation 4 currently leads by just 540,135 units.

The PlayStation 3 launched in November 2006, while the PlayStation 4 launched in February 2014. The PlayStation 4 has sold 7.79 million units, while its predecessor the PlayStation 3 sold 7.25 million units.

interesting.. according to their own site, if you go to the platform totals it says that the PS3 sold 10.47 million units in Japan.. not 7.25

When vgChartz does comparison for system release at different time or years its always compared by same time being on the market.

yeah, I don't know why I didn't see that. I was totally confused at first, but it makes perfect sense. That being said, I don't see the PS4 selling nearly 3 million more units, so I doubt it's going to take the crown from the PS3, even if it's tracking slightly above at this point.
