The Division 2 Beta: Fool me Twice, Shame on me

The Division 2 beta came out this last weekend and Mammoth Gamers gave it a spin to see what was new, what was the same and overall, and if Ubisoft deserves your hard earned money. The results, were mixed.

Weird considering everyone has been raving about the beta

KyRo2290d ago

The only thing I don't like about the Division 2 so far is the setting. Snow covered, ruined NY was amazing to look at. DC just dosent have that magical feel and looks a bit generic to me.

DaveZero2290d ago (Edited 2290d ago )

It has an ever changing night and day cycle and changing weather system. Sometimes that fog and rain make a you feel just as blind and it's lovely to see..

It also seems like dark is dark to, most games you can bypass it with adding brightness, not the division 2 which is great. When your down underground and someone starts popping the lights damn it gives a cold sense that you about to be in a light show of a firefight..

Dark_Knightmare22290d ago (Edited 2290d ago )

Man my friends and I are so happy to be out of NYC. After spending almost three years playing in the same location with the same weather and Christmas theme we are so looking forward to a sunny DC. I love the setting but at this point it’s just played out and stale and the new setting is def a welcome change imo

Seraphim2290d ago

They should really add climate changes to the game through the year. In the Winter get a little snow fall, snow on the ground. Spring we get some puddles, rain, leaves growing on trees, etc. Not sure the amount of time that would go into making this happen but changing the game with the season would be a nice touch imo. Nothing too drastic but just a little something. Not sure if The Division ever had events but some Seasonal Events can be interesting as well. Obviously a quality game, content, etc are necessary but some of the little things can go a long way not only for every day players but also to get players to jump back on for a little bit.

You know it’s a beta yet you’re complaining and whining as if it’s the finished game. Instead of crying like a baby about bugs hopefully you let Ubisoft know about the issues you was having but I doubt it...

Araragifeels 2290d ago

It a beta which most likely won't change much in the final product just like Division 1. From the beta, I don't see any difference between Division 1 and Division 2 except the graphics. It feels like Division 2 could have been a Division 1 DLC.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH2290d ago

You’re in the minority when it comes to D2. I’ve played it and yes there was a few bugs but I’m sure most will be fixed by launch. You people tend to treat betas like final code which is not always fair.

Unspoken2290d ago

Did you see the massive list of changes from the Private beta to the open beta? Even the game play was tightened up and the gun play felt crisp. The Division 2 already had a lengthy beta, it was called The Division.

Hydrazinezz2290d ago

Bro the game comes out in a week if you think theres going to be these massive uber changes in 2 weeks you’re a fucking idiot.

DaGR8JIBRALTAR2287d ago

Lol..you don't think that beta was representation of the final product? You must be smoking crack.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH2287d ago

They fixed a TON of issues from the closed beta to the open open. Do you REALLY think they will not address most issues by launch? After seeing how Anthem is getting destroyed? You must be smoking crack

DaGR8JIBRALTAR2290d ago (Edited 2290d ago )

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...well uh..if u fool me one time I can't get fooled again.😂

But seriously..that's how I feel with The Division 2. Ubisoft wont catch me slippin a second time.

TheColbertinator2290d ago

Like what I played so far and I'm excited. Now we just wait and see.

GameBoyColor2290d ago

Honestly yeah I had an amazing time, bugs aside.

Evolve2290d ago

The audio issues need to be fixed prior to launch day. In both the private beta and the public, I had to close the game's application and reopen it so I can get the audio back. I have also encountered some glitches where enemies get stuck behind some building and didn't come outside, forcing them later on to vanish and loss the key they usually drop.

DaveZero2290d ago

Honestly in the open beta, I felt it was there odd times but not as bad as the private which tells me that they are working to fix it and they will..

That was really the only problem..

Evolve2289d ago

"Title Update 1.5 mainly addresses occurrences of audio missing or cutting out experienced by some during Open Beta"

Well... that's a start.

Blood & Truth his number one game. Nice pick. One of the best VR games ever made. Basically Uncharted in VR with British gangster skin.

Abnor_Mal1991d ago

Blood &Truth was the truth. Well written story of London underground shady characters. Lots of action that made the game play out like a summer blockbuster movie. The shooting was memorable with only one hiccup on the elevator trying to target while behind cover was a bit troubling. Will play though it again on the new hard mode and also try to use the Aim controller for the shooting gallery. Such a great game and can understand why it was picked as the authors game of the year.

The Division 2: Episode 1 D.C. Outskirts Review - Parallax Media

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 had a strong start to the year, and while it wasn’t perfect, it still proved itself to be leagues better than the original game’s release back in 2016. Ubisoft has hopes to continue the upward trend with the latest release of free DLC, Episode 1 – D.C. Outskirts.

2 new dungeons (which look amazing), expeditions, and new loot / quality of life stuff (including making skill builds usable) for free, is mediocre?

Do “Online-only” Games Need an “Offline” Mode

Should companies start planning for a game's shutdown ahead of time? Would offline spin-offs or patches that let people play something unplugged be wise for the future?

Then they wouldn't be "Online Only"

Kingthrash3602152d ago

Why just flat out no? I mean what would it hurt to have some kind of offline mode so you can still use the product you paid for if their server goes down or the internet goes down or you just want to play alone and relax?

Online only just means it has an expiration date.

JackBNimble2151d ago

What's the problem with offline mode ?
I don't see why this can't be an option.

-Foxtrot2152d ago (Edited 2152d ago )

By that meaning a game like Monster Hunter World or The Division which allow you to play by yourself but require you to be constantly online where you can't even pause the game?

Then yes...yes they do.

If you are playing by yourself, are in a private session with no other players and you aren't playing with friends or are in a party then there's no need to be constantly online.

ApocalypseShadow2152d ago (Edited 2152d ago )

I Didn't buy it but here's a perfect example: Starblood Arena

Attempt to patch it for offline but failed

Goes offline tomorrow.

The developer should have had single player with optional multi player from day one. When you make a game online only, that cuts out a large group of buyers. When the servers go down or other online gamers move on to something new, you can no longer play. Also, single player games with online connection is also wrong. There's no need for DRM.

When you buy a game, you should be able to play it when you spent money on it. At least have Bots as an option.

I know the intent is to make an online game. Or, the developer doesn't have funds to do both. But when some developers who have less money can do both, it looks like a cash grab of micro transactions with no trade in value or something you can't lend to a friend.

I mostly play single player anyway. But I did buy Firewall Zero Hour used for $17.99 because it looks great and is awesome with the AIM controller after the free weekend demo. I refused to buy it new because of what it is. It's online only with barely no single player options except for training missions. And only **ONE** mode for online. ONE. No story, no hostage saving, no PvP free for all, no capture the flag, etc. And the developer seems fine with not adding any other modes but more micro transactions. Which is sad. So I only play the training missions which is like horde mode until the game goes offline. Then it's unplayable because it requires an online connection. Single player option with Bots not requiring online should be a must for any game you buy.

Zjet2151d ago

Yes.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint being online only is an absolute stupid decision.

Anthem could be rediscovered and preserved if it had offline single player support, but now it will most likely shutdown and die and be lost to history forever.

Etc etc

Media preservation is becoming more of an issue these days but the new age consumers are being told to treat services like goods and pay for them not to own but rent.
