SONY's Bend Studio is working on new IP Days Gone after projects including Uncharted: Golden Abyss and the Syphon Filter series. And, when you think about it, the games share a few notable similarities.

Awwwww - is this perceived as a negative? Keep digging for scraps haha

KwietStorm_BLM828d ago

..You talking to me or the people who disagreed with me?

porkChop830d ago

"what Bend Studio has always done is deliver third-person, character-driven experiences that has a focus on story."

I mean, yeah, but those similarities aren't that significant in the grand scheme of things. Days Gone is a very different type of experience from Syphon Filter. The gameplay, themes, mechanics, premise, etc., are all totally different.

Rapidfirepunches830d ago

If true Days Gone could be better or equal to God of War in terms of quality. I have high hopes.

DarXyde830d ago (Edited 830d ago )

That's a pretty high bar.

With the recent previews, I would expect a "good game", but I'm definitely not of any opinion that it'll be amazing.

Anyways manage personal expectations. I'm not trying to be a debbie downer, but I think it was easy to see from a distance-- before playing personally-- that God of War would be fantastic. I knew I'd love it as soon as I heard Barlog was attached to the project. I don't get that sense from Days Gone, but that's just me.

Like I said, I'm expecting a good game, but not an amazing one.

Rapidfirepunches830d ago

Syphon Filter is one of the greats

DarXyde830d ago

Syphon Filter is also a different era.

xX-oldboy-Xx830d ago

I wouldn't go that high with my expectations, dial it back a little mate.

xPaYDaYx829d ago

Cmon now, there's no way in hell Days Gone is going to be that good lol.

Rapidfirepunches829d ago

Why not? This is a mainline Sony exclusive. Their games have only gotten better and better with each release. I expect Days Gone to follow suit.

RememberThe357829d ago

Being a Sony exclusive doesn't automatically make a game great. You'd have to be sniffing some serious fanoy powder to think that. God of War is the best game Sony has ever made IMO, I can't expect Day's Gone to be better, I'm not going to do that to myself. I do however, expect to have a really good time.

Rapidfirepunches829d ago

God of War was good but there's a lot that could be improved on. The world itself was pretty linear where as Days Gone has a full open world, and a motorcycle.

chris235830d ago

yeah both have graphics so they are similar.

NarutoFox830d ago

I think this is going to be a sleeper hit and surprise everyone the same way guerilla games surprised everyone with Horizon zero Dawn.

DarXyde830d ago

I thought it was obvious from a distance Horizon would be solid, honestly.

Who was sleeping on Horizon? That game looked great from the jump.

King6830d ago (Edited 830d ago )

A lot of people were sleeping on horizon before release.because guerrilla games a developer known for kill zone a fps series were making a third person open world rpg like horizon a lot of people thought it was too far out of guerrilla games comfort zone and would end up being really bad.

DrumBeat830d ago

Exactly. Everything looked incredible from the get-go with HZD. The only minor skepticism people had was the fact that this was Guerrillas first attempt at something outside Killzone. Days Gone has not shared this optimism; instead it's been met with high doubt at worst, and cautious optimism at best.

To the people who are saying this is a technical marvel that rivals God of War; I have to seriously question your eyesight and intellectual honesty. Overall, Days Gone doesn't hold a candle to God of War visually; not the foliage, structures, fire, particles (those God of War particles were godly) deformation, lighting or anything else.

Stop saying that. You're insane (lol)

xX-oldboy-Xx830d ago

The gaming media were jizzing over 'Robot Dinosaurs' - fair play, Horizon was bloody awesome.

Just because DG has infected humans it copped unwarranted flack.

The game has always looked solid af!

AshleeEmerson829d ago

I definitely didn't think Horizon zero Dawn was going to be good but I just bought it to support Sony and thank God I did!

For this reason alone, I'm going to be more open-minded and buy Days Gone. I'm thinking it will have the same effect as Horizon as far as not expecting much but it will turn out to be much better than I imagined.

xPaYDaYx829d ago

I'm inclined to agree. Horizon was definitely a sleeper. A lot of my friends, which are all super hardcore gamers, literally didn't give a shit about the game. Even post-launch I would always tell them they had to play it and to go try it. Eventually they bought it and loved it but ya, it definitely wasn't that popular for whatever reason. I remember seeing it at E3 and being amazed and couldn't wait to play it lol but the hype for the game was nowhere near a lot of games. Think how crazy people went over GoW and Spiderman and then compare that to the reactions of Horizon.

Realms829d ago

People had doubts about Guerrilla doing an RPG even if they where excited for it, I didn't care what critics where saying about Days Gone when it was introduced and don't care what they are saying now. Sony Bend has a solid track record I much rather trust that than these so call journalist. It's going to be a solid game considering it's Sony Bends first AAA game I'm willing to give them the benefit of doubt.

rainslacker829d ago

I remember the reveal for Horizon, and everyone in the audience was wowed, and it got a lot of good press. The community itself seemed really excited from the start. The only negativity came from the Xbox fan boys, and about the only time it got some questionable press is after the first story showing, where they had some stiff performances in the facial animations.

Tsk, if it's as bad as HZD, I'll be very disappointed.
