Shenmue III Box Art Is Official and It Doesn't Look That Good

Deep Silver has updated the official Shenmue III website with the box art for the game, and unfortunately, it doesn't look that great.

I like collecting physical copies so I like a game to have good box art. Shenmue III's just looks uninspired and is probably only a tiny bit better than your typical shooter cover (look at just about every COD game to see what I mean).

To give an example of good box art look at Nier: Automata, Mass Effect, Okami and BotW as a variety of ways to do it right. Something nice and stylized that reminds you about the days when all we had to go on games at the store was the box art.

I've seen average cases for years. The original Mega Man game was a good example of a terrible cover. Who cares. The game was great. Collecting game cover art won't bring any value to the game. It's a case.

My only concern is game play. It's an article concerned over nothing of material. Whenever a PS4 game comes out, there's always this lame concern over nothing. I really don't even care what color the plastic is.

It's weird. There are a certain section of gamers that have been dumping on this game ever since the Kickstarter reveal at E3.

I don't know what their problem is. Surely they should be seeing it as a good thing that fans are getting a game they have been waiting for for over 15 years.

I'm not a fan of the Half Life series, but if the fans finally got the game they have been waiting so long for, I would be happy for them.

Though more money is always welcome and Sega would love it (they are only licensing this game out to Ys Net, not developing, but own the IP), this is truly made by the fans for the core Shenmue fanbase first. It might even get an average 70+ metacritic score and their fanbase will still love it because they have been waiting for almost 20 years for this game.

Yeah, that's not very good. I still don't know why they abandoned the classic font for the awful font they use on the box. The box art looks stiff & amateur. They should have used the classic font & the artwork for the game. Only people buying this are Shenmue fans anyway and that's not a knock but a reality.

Yea it kinda sucks. As gamingbrit and nakeyjakey have said before video game box art kinda lacks at times.It should draw people in to actually check out the game. It should reflect the type of experience your in for. At least somewhat. Nier automata (day one edition) for example shows 3 characters dressed in black fighting off a bunch of robots. God hand shows a fist going through some guys head. Anarchy reigns shows a bunch of cyborg looking dudes with a literal explosion behind them on the cover. Devil may cry 5 shows 3 badass looking guys walking towards a crowd of some bug looking monsters ready to fight (I know theyre demons ofc but one unfamiliar with the series wouldnt). These kinds stylized covers are what catch my eye when I walk into the game store. Makes me go "hey this looks pretty cool. Of course now that Im older and with a better understanding of a buncha shit I check out video games despite whatever the cover art looks like.

It's just... okay. I would've liked it to resemble the Xbox Shenmue 2 handdrawn boxart. That one was really nice. It told a story right on the cover.

Whats wrong with this cover? Nothing if you ask me. When you look at the cover you know exactly what game it contains. Is that not a function of a cover? To know what game your looking at?? Just my opinion.😉

Nothing wrong with the box, not great but i have no issue with it. I really hope that people are not over hyping this game and thinking it's going to be this huge masterpiece. I will be happy with a game that hits the nostalgia button and gives a solid ending to one of my favorite games of all time.

Problem with Shenmue is that its very dated. If you play the original game again its not what it used to be, Shenmue III will never live to the hyper level its under.
