it depends what quality of Nostalgia you offer and in what quantity ....Sony made one and huge mistake with PS one classic (along many other minor ones), ...the "mistake" /s was the PS3 ,PSvita ,PSP access to almost any PS1 game through PSN ...people had played and seen all the classic games again and again in any PS console possible (and lets not forget the recent remakes of juggernaught games like FF 7, Crash remake, etcetc) --> so PSclassic was instantly DOA ......other minor mistakes were that bad choice of many included games ...i want PSclassic to play Crash Bandicoot legendary trilogy or Capcom legacy surv-horror games (Resident Evil 1-3, Dino Crisis) , NOT pocket fighter and jumping flash

mcstorm2305d ago

Your spot on with this. This is where Nintendo got it right with the mini nes and snes was the games the system had but also the age of the 2 consoles helped imo as it had a different type of market to aim for. Being 80s and early 90s

StormSnooper2305d ago (Edited 2305d ago )

I think you are unto something but there is a more on point reason why PS1 classic doesn’t sell as much as a Nintendo classic:
PlayStation games in general are played with a higher percentage of “gamers” while Nintendo consoles are played by a higher percentage of casuals (I know a dirty word). Before you think I’m attacking Nintendo, let me explain. My girlfriend does not TOUCH games, but she still has a soft spot for OLD Mario games. This girl does not play or own any consoles, because she says these new games are too “complicated” (her word). BUT she wants an older Nintendo handheld because she likes the older Mario/donkey Kongtype games. THIS is why a PS1 classic will not outsell a Nintendo classic. The people who are old enough to have played PS1, are now playing PS4. But, Nintendo consoles are also bought by a large number of “casuals” who would buy the Nintendo classic over the Nintendo Switch.

BizarroUltraman2304d ago

playstation games are played 99.8% sheep and Nintendo by OG gamers and their kids...

KeenBean3452304d ago

@BizarroUltraman

In what way our the vast majority of Playstation gamers sheep? And wtf is an "OG Gamer"

StormSnooper2304d ago

@Bizarro
What a strange response. I was making a real genuine comment, and it’s all true, if you are taking offense it’s because you are not a rational person.

Imalwaysright2304d ago

Sorry but your girlfriend proves nothing. People that buy Nintendo consoles tend to be the hardcore fans that have grown with the brand. That's the reason why big Nintendo games like SSB or Zelda sell as much or more than Sony exclusives despite the switch having a far smaller install base

mcstorm2304d ago

StormSnooper I can see how you come to this conclusion but I have to disagree. If anything casuals are the ones that play the PlayStation over Nintendo consoles.

One of the reasons why the psx outsold the n64 was because it was easy to chip and get copies of the games which were coming from the casual side.

I do agree casual gamers love Nintendo's ips like MK ect but this dose not really drive Nintendo's sales. But casuals don't get games like Zelda and metro. Gaming has changed a lot this gen and we have not got many family games and the casual gamers are the ones playing games like GTA, COD, Fornight, PUG ect. Back in the snes and nes games it was gamers who bought the consoles or geeks so to speak. Now everyone plays games.

Wouldn't say that. It was just a rushed, poorly executed cash grab.

pcz2305d ago

No, its a reminder that crap products can crash and burn even with a big brand and marketing campaign.

Einhander19712305d ago

Wrong games limited amount, buy the real machine then play games like Einhander, Rtype delta, Thunder force 5, Raycrisis, Raystorm, Gradius Gaiden, Parodius collection, Darius G, Raiden project, I love retro shooters something only having the real tech delivers. Besides a few gems on PS1 mini most games are shovel ware.

Wow… Nintendo is champ in Japan, but the speed of sale is remarkable.

Proves that console gaming isn’t dead yet not by a long shot.

gold_drake2d ago

not surprised, the switch is relatively cheap in japan.

I guess the resistance against always online and digital only consoles is BS. The people have voted with their wallets.

NotoriousWhiz2d ago

What are you talking about? Switch 2 is neither always online nor digital only.

DivineHand1252d ago

Nintendo can literally block your Switch 2 console from accessing their online services at any time. When that happens, it becomes a brick. You won't even be able to play those games that use game key cards that are not installed on the console. Some users who have been blocked tried factory resetting their system, and when they tried to boot it up with a new account, they are stuck.

Speaking of game key cards, the majority of third party publishers have opted to use those instead of loading their full game on those cartridges. Imagine having a library of game key card games and going on a long trip but not being able to play a particular game because you need to connect to Nintendo servers to download the game first. It is not like the old days where you just plug in and play.

Game key cards make sense for large games like GTA, Red Dead, or COD, but I don't see why publishers who have games with sizes less than 32 GB need to use that option.

If you try to mod your system it could get banned from online play like every single system since the ps3 and xbox
