What if Manhunt 3 had a female lead?

What do you think? Is this a direction you’d be happy with or are you already sharpening that pitchfork and creating online petitions?

DedicatedDark2247d ago

lol. That would be funny as hell.

Nitrowolf22246d ago

What’s up with these “what if a game had the opposite gender role” article recently?

Eonjay2246d ago

They are meant to be triggers for people who think they should be offended by women. The thing is no one is suggesting switching anything really but there is money to be made through clickbait.

At least switch it up make Lara Croft a dude, oh wait we have Nathan Drake.

What female protagonist/antagonist would be interesting as a man?

ginganinja2246d ago

when someone says 'what if..' to something, it makes someone else think, hey, 'yeah, but hey, what if...' to something else.
Just folks using their imagination to let us see things we didn't know we wanted to see.

Eonjay2246d ago

Serious Samantha? A female Sephiroth with the one wing would probably be dope. Bowsette of course.
Any more?

PoSTedUP2246d ago

what if? i mean, it would be weird to me. in my mind women arent as well known for their dark gritty brutal killings as much as mens. so it would be less believable to switch it up now. if they make a completely new game with a women who did this stuff then thats ok. but let the men play their manhunt game as a man which is what they have always done.

sampsonon2246d ago

@Eonjay:

what's funny are the dislikes lol.
people are so stupid. and i have little faith in humanities future because of it.

Livingthedream2246d ago

click bait. that's all it is.

This industry is going at full force towards SJW agendas

rainslacker2245d ago

I think they'd be liable for copyright infringement, because I believe there is probably several porn movies with that name.

isarai2247d ago

I would be indifferent, main thing that matters is, is she going to be an interesting character

roadkillers2246d ago

You say indifferent, but there's a reason why I play Nathan Drake over Laura, picked Leon over Claire, and my favorite fighting characters are dudes. As a dude, they are generally more relatable. Plus I can't help, but end up staring at Laura's assets as she's going through a cave.

isarai2246d ago (Edited 2246d ago )

That's your problem not mine, Saints row 2 i tried making a woman character just for sh*ts and giggles. found it to be quite a refreshing experience as i usually, like you, always played as guys. Ever since i dabble in making female characters every now and then, and enjoy games with a nicely crafted female lead cause it's just a nice change of pace. i also don't have the issue of getting lost looking at their "assets", not shaming or anything like that(nothing wrong with being attracted to the human form), just not something that happens to me when playing games. I acknowledge the "assets" are in fact there and in fantastic shape(talking to you Chloe Fraszer's bedonk), but i can get past that just fine and just enjoy the game.

Eonjay2246d ago

You know it just occurred to me that Claire Farron (Lightning) was basically a female version of Cloud as she was certainly more masculine than just about everyone in FF13. I liked playing with her as much as Sarah in Part 2 who is the most feminine person in the game outside of Vinille.

I never put that much stock into the sex of the characters because I was more Interested in whether or not they had the ability to whip ass.

I would have a problem if a developer gave me a female that was too weak on principle or their sex.

Cmv382246d ago

I don't choose nathan of Laura because of gender. Uncharted is a better game. As far as modern games. But tomb raider 1 and 2 were amazing.

sampsonon2246d ago (Edited 2246d ago )

"You say indifferent, but there's a reason why I play Nathan Drake over Laura, picked Leon over Claire, and my favorite fighting characters are dudes"

because you like men and you are gay? nothing wrong with that but you should at least come out of the closet if you haven't already.

PoSTedUP2246d ago

i liked clair over leon. drake over laura. favorite fighting characters are dudes though (baraka, kabal, king) i like a lot of the female characters though and pick the female characters in street fighter more than the men. picked a female in saints row4 because you could make her nakie ;). i wouldnt pick a female in a military shooter though. but i play as the jamaican medic chick in apex legends. if i had to choose i would switch her to a guy because thats what i am, unless the guy version was douche like mirage.

Realms2246d ago

Some people are seriously disturbed I have zero problems playing a female character if that is the protagonist, I must admit that when given the option to create my own character it's often a male. I don't get the correlation between playing a game and not finding enjoyment simply because it's a female role. Samus revelation in Metroid was epic, Lara Croft is an icon, and now Aloy in Horizon Zero Dawn have been great leads IMO when they are done correctly and not forced or shoehorn in they work just as any other character and above else the game has to be fun otherwise it doesn't matter who the lead is if the game sucks.

FallenAngel19842247d ago

What if Rockstar still made multiple games like they used to

winter_hill2246d ago

IKR. Next gen we'll probably only get one new game from them and it will be GTA 6. And it will come out towards the end of next gen (after the remaster of RDR2).

Movefasta19932246d ago (Edited 2246d ago )

I want a next gen midnight club so bad, if anyone can make a good street racer it’s them since ea have forgotten how to . La was amazing

Gatsu2246d ago

That's the same with many developers these days... It takes a long time to create a game.

EazyC2246d ago

Weird that. What happened to Bully, Midnight Club and the ever-elusive Agent? They have multiple studios, I don't see why the change

King_Noctis2246d ago (Edited 2246d ago )

There was an interview from awhile back stating that Rockstar planned to release at least one new game per year. So who knows, maybe they will make good of that promise someday.

rainslacker2245d ago

What if, people stopped asking what if?

TheColbertinator2247d ago

Doesn't matter who they put because Manhunt is a game to get your snuff needs dished out.

Who knew it was so satisfying to execute people with glass shards and plastic bags in a video game?

PhantomS422246d ago (Edited 2246d ago )

Then it would be about my ex perhaps?

I couldn't imagine them trying to make a Manhunt 3. The backlash from news outlets and non-video game people was really high for the first two games and the internet was not even remotely as big or accessible as it is today plus with how easily offended the world is right now I just don't see it ever seeing the light of day.

DaveZero2246d ago

Was not just people being easily offended though real life murders happened, one of them being in Britain. The two friends were playing manhunt and the one was obsessed with it, he lured his friend to some woods and killed him with a claw hammer. He had been fantasizing about acting it out and manhunt took the blame. For the first time you could really undoubtedly say a video game was the cause of a child being violent to a point it caused death.

There was so much happening around manhunt that this third game is going to bring trouble before it's released. It certainly needs tighter control so kids can't get hold of it because if proofed to be addictive, too damn addictive.

PhantomS422246d ago

How old was he? Where were his parents? And how is having a mental illness that was never addressed the games fault? It has nothing to do with the game. It sounds like he had psycho/sociopathic tendencies way before Manhunt was released. Granted you do have a point about kids not getting it but out can't make ignorant parents suddenly be proactive in what media their kids are consuming, to them they are perfect parents and anything the child does wrong is automatically someone else's fault and video games are an easy scapegoat.

PoSTedUP2246d ago

when i go into gamestop, i get ID'd every single time i buy a violent game, im 29. its the parents fault if little jimmy is playing violent games. i played them since i could remember, the only reason i was probably allowed to play them because i grew up in a very un-sober and insane environment. i was drinking heavy at an alarmingly young age. i had therapists when i was in elementary school that i would see regularly. my only problem was i was lazy and hated my teachers. there was really nothing wrong with me mentally, besides a few minor ticks. but if there was and it went unnoticed and i did something bad, its the Games fault? not my parents? not the therapists? not the school? not the relatives? not my own? thats a pretty bold claim.

DarXyde2246d ago (Edited 2246d ago )

They probably weren't old enough to be playing Manhunt, so there's that. Also the risk of mental health concerns and how they were able to get access to the game.

But I'm not going to blame them completely. I think, as gamers, we want to believe wholeheartedly that our hobby doesn't cause violent behavior. VR is adding another layer to the conversation entirely. It makes me think of gun control a bit: the research isn't there yet (thanks, CDC!), those who indulge tend to be the biggest apologists, and those making the argument that the problem is mental illness still can't seem to deny that the behavior is caused by violent games/ guns and still don't seem to care enough to actually address the issue of mental illness itself.

It's easy to say, "it's mental illness", but what are people doing to address mental illness?

I realize this happened in Britain, but the stigma of mental health is quite global in scale.

Dark_Overlord2246d ago

Now now, don't spread misinformation, Manhunt had nothing to do with the Murder (despite what the media kept shovelling out). The reason was robbery.

Realms2246d ago

This is dumb AF a game isn't going to make you do anything, nor will movies, books or even the internet. If you have thoughts of murdering someone they are rooted in a much deeper impulse that is formed in early childhood and in your family influences. Ted Bundy got away with murder for decades because people couldn't imagine that a charming, good manner and handsome man could possibly do the heinous acts he was found guilty of. The BTK killer was also a pillar of his community, my point is that sociopaths and murders don't care about murdering someone because they can't empathize with someone else's feelings of pain because they can't feel remorse. A normal person will think twice about his actions because they have a conscious that prevents them from committing these kinds of acts. A gun can't kill anyone it's an inanimate object until it's in the hands of a human then it becomes deadly.
