Crackdown 3's destruction has been severely downgraded, comparison video between 2015 & 2019 builds

DSOGaming writes: "Back in 2015, Crackdown 3 was advertised as the game that would show the power of the Cloud and that it would offer incredible destruction never before seen in any game. However, that was in 2015. The game will release in a couple of days and as we can see, the destruction system has been severely downgraded."

And now we learn there's no party system at launch, a feature that's been on Xbox since 2004. What the hell has happened over at Microsoft?

AspiringProGenji6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

It’s okay. It’ll be on gamepass and they can finish the game later. That should keep the standars low

-Foxtrot6d ago

I fear the whole "it's on Gamepass, it's cheap and good value for money so it dosen't matter if it's not finished, they'll update it later" is going to be the new excuse

SierraGuy6d ago

Nobody says it but I just don't think the X is or ever was powerful enough to run what they originally showed.

Huge downgrade...stupid CPU.

letsa_go6d ago

@Donnie81 Street fighter 5 and GT Sport are on gamepass? I never would have known!

Snookies126d ago (Edited 6d ago )

It's sad, I used to be hyped for this game... Now it's come to this. Was really hoping it'd turn out well, but the more I saw of it down the road. The more I realized it wasn't going to be what a lot of us hoped it would.

xX-oldboy-Xx6d ago

Donnie81 - what? Over promise and under deliver? Delay them multiple times? Use them as selling for tech that isn't even half of what was promised?

Or just add online functionality at a later date? But none of the other things I pointed out?

I can live with that.

StormSnooper6d ago

How do Xbox only owners feel about their exclusives being on game pass but performing like this?

Jin_Sakai6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

“It’s okay. It’ll be on gamepass and they can finish the game later. That should keep the standars low”

I’m sure it’s finished. They had 5 years! What you see is what you get.

AspiringProGenji6d ago

I would hope it is. I have no friends at least on PC so the party feature being absent doesn't really bother me. If the everything else is complete and the game turns out great then I can give it a go. I'll wait and see what else is either downgraded or absent before being hyped

conanlifts6d ago

I will try it on gamepass, but Apex legends will likely draw me back very quickly. This looks terrible in comparison as a multiplayer shooter.

Samonuske6d ago

@donnie81, the difference is they never oversold the product, Both games we knew what we were getting before they were released. These guys marketed Crackdown 3 to be something it’s not even remotely close to at launch.

UltraNova5d ago

I don't want to say anything before the full game comes out and we all see all those cloud promises (de)materialize but man...if this is the offering quality we should expect from the Nextflix of games then...hold on to your hard earned cash people and spend ot elsewhere.

fr0sty5d ago

And look at that, even with the massive downgrade, the destruction lags. You can see parts of the building (or the one big chunk) freeze in mid-air. So much for our networks being ready for cloud tech.

Anyone else notice that the review embargo silently got moved from the promised release of today, the 11th? Metacritic now says it's the 14th, the day prior to launch. Ouch.

ArchangelMike6d ago

I noticed that. The more interesting thing about this is that you don't hear a peep from any of the gaming websites about it. When The Order 1886 had a review embargo the day before release the gamesites and fanboys went into meltdown and completely destroyed that game - even though compared to this it was a graphical masterpiece. Same thing happened when it was Bethesda with Dishonoured 2 and Prey - the gamesites all chimed and castigated Bethesda for what was deemed a shady practice. But now that it is Microsoft that have effectively blocked pre-release reviews of Crackdown 3 we don't even hear a pin drop from any of the gaming sites. I wonder why?

#smdh

gamingunited6d ago

It's not surprising that Microsoft is being deceptive and lying to the very last day.

JesusBuiltmyHotrod6d ago

Yes it was moved....a bad sign for sure.

Kyizen5d ago

What's funny is people were saying Microsoft was confident in the game due to the embargo being 4 days below the release, haha!

slasaru015d ago

I've heard from one game reviewer who got the game that the single player campaign was pretty solid.

OtterX5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

@Slasaru Sweet. So it does have the fully destructable city that can be played completely in co-op after all? The one that was promised in 2015. The original Crackdown was all about the campaign co-op for me and my buds. Glad to hear this surprise, because co-op is what I have been looking forward to the most since it was announced and detailed.

*Look, I'm all for giving Microsoft kudos when they release a solid game. FH3 & 4 are 2 of my favorite games this gen, but I'm not giving this game a pass just because they finally crossed the finish line. It's not the game I was hyped up about in the beginning. I really couldn't care less about this competitive arena thing. I wanted a great co-op game w destructability and was given something else instead. 5 years doesn't make me forget.

Jin_Sakai6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

This has to be one of the biggest downgrades I’ve ever witnessed. Add this to the list of broken promises from Microsoft.

trooper_6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

There’s no freaking standards there, that’s for sure.

@Donnie, what the heck are you talking about? Those games alone look better than Crackdown.

ShadowWolf7125d ago

Those games also received plenty of flak for missing features too, especially Street Fighter V. It's not as if they were given a pass, as he's implying.

darthv726d ago

FWIW, the og xbox did not have party system in 2004. That did not come out to the 360 until 2008 with the NXE dash update.

As to the game itself, the SP side looks upgraded while the MP side took a hit. I'm still going to enjoy it because it's been said to be the more of the first but bigger and better.

HentaiElmo6d ago

@darthv72 your answer read like a Xbox representative when you are chatting online. 🤔🤔🤔

Rachel_Alucard6d ago

You're right it didn't have it in 2004, it had it in 2003 with Brute Force with a drop in drop out party system so friends could play with friends at any time without having to restart the session.

You make a disservice to your own community with your words. This is a shame, I can't believe this is the MS vision for the power of the cloud they were bragging about. Honestly, that company can't be serious about gaming. What a joke.

milohighclub5d ago

Who said it was like the first but bigger and better?

Christopher5d ago

The SP looks like a resolution upgrade, not much else. That's not a dealbreaker for me, but it doesn't look AA even.

Whatever happened to the visuals downgrade narrative?

6d ago
Obscure_Observer6d ago

@jakiah66

Fanboys talked about graphical downgrade and all i see is an upgrade! Fact!

Razzer6d ago

oh wow......if this were Sony, you would be off the charts on this.

IRetrouk6d ago

We'll tbf I've always said I think the single player will be fun, most people, including the fanboys have pointed out the horrible downgraded multiplayer mode, single player hasn't been mentioned nearly as much. Fact is from what's been seen ms lied, if this were Sony you would be saying the exact same things we are now.

Potnoodle9996d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Thanks for reminding me! That sucks too! Sorry to burst your bubble buddy, but the whole game is a complete failure.... and funny thing is, I have a feeling that the visuals and the downgraded destruction will be the least of this games problem upon release.

Dude here is the video of the Gamescom2015 reveal of CRackdown 3 - https://www.youtube.com/wat... I will accept that this was just a trailer, a target render etc,. However when you get to the 0.44 mark of that dev blog, you will see a transforming vehicle, the voice over says "...race through the streets in a tranforming vehicle..." The vehicle you see in that video has been severely downgraded for the full game. Now I am willing to wait until the game releases to be sure, mabe it is a highlevel unlock, or DLC - I don't know; but what I do know is that there is no transforming vehcile that even looks close to what was original shown.

Look I really don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, as gamers we should be excited for whatever games we are looking forward to. But dude, it doesn't mean we have to be untrue about what we see, or what we want to play. Fundamentally, all I'm trying to say is, ask for more, from MS, set them a higher standard and don't let then have a free pass, becasue they will no timprove otherwise.

I'm not being disingenuous. You do realise that when Microsoft announced Crackdown 3 in 2014 plans had not yet been made for the XboxOneX right?! When Crackdown 3 was shown at GamesCom 2015, there was no XbxoxOneX. All those promises of the Cloud improvements were for the base XboxOne model. You do realise that right? You remeber that the OneX didn't launch until 2017. That means that everything that was said about Crackdown 3 and the power of the cloud was based on the ORIGINAL Xbox One model.

Of course i realise that! Not sure why you mentioned the X. Cloudengine´s (the developer) project was based on the OG Xbox One and the OG Xbox One console was the only console i was talking about.

That said, i didn´t know that Phil Harrison was running his mouth regarding "Cloud Power" i really didn´t. And for that i recognize that i was wrong. Now, what i know and said, is that as far as i can tell, Cloudengine developers never promissed that the Cloud Power would enhance Crackdown 3´s graphics! Cloud Power was meant to do heavy lift work for Xbox One optimizing and allocating it´s limited cpu resources to other less stressful tasks.

When i call you disingenous, is because people like you are calling the game a piece of trash, demanding that the developers lose their jobs etc, WTF? Read the comments on this article again. It´s full of hate! The hypocrites that are calling those devs out when the said developers never promissed that Crackdown 3 would be a graphical showcase, are the ones that will be playing this so called trash game, day one on Game Pass.

The first demo was running on a very specific and controlled environment. Of course things would function like a charm. Real world application is another story. Jesus! Everybody knows that this game went trough development hell as multiple studios come by and left. They did the best they could. Crackdown´s cloud destruction is not as impressive as the original demo, yeah. But give it time. The tech is on its infancy. More games will come and better and bigger results will be achieved. Hell, it´s even possible that they will improve it´s cloud destruction during Crackdown 3´s life circle.

After the game´s release, when all is said and done, if turns out that Cloud Power is nothing but a sham, a fraud, and its cloud destruction could be achieved through local hardware, make no mistake, you´ll be the first person that i´ll apologise and retract from all i said regarding Cloud Power and i´ll call out Microsoft on their PR BS!

Razzer5d ago

"That said, i didn´t know that Phil Harrison was running his mouth regarding "Cloud Power" i really didn´t."

Well then you should have checked before you called ArchangelMike a liar. Took me all of two seconds to google: "microsoft xbox cloud graphics". First page has both the article I referenced and the one Rachel_Alucard provided.

Here is the search itself:

Ah.....so now ArchangelMike is guilty by association, huh? Did he actually say the game was trash or the devs should lose their jobs? I know I sure as hell didn't. So who the hell are you talking about? Someone else in the 280+ replies to this article? What is preventing you from calling these people out? What good does it do to bitch about them here? Oh.....that's right....it is just so you can say "people like you". LOL

That was an entirely shameless shifting of the goalposts. You went from this:

"Dude, again, just bring actuall proof that Microsoft promissed that Cloud would enhance the graphics of the ORIGINAL Xbox One, because you´re making stuff up! They never said that. That´s YOU been disingenous!"

To this:

"Now, what i know and said, is that as far as i can tell, Cloudengine developers never promissed that the Cloud Power would enhance Crackdown 3´s graphics!"

"When i call you disingenous, is because people like you are calling the game a piece of trash, demanding that the developers lose their jobs etc, WTF? Read the comments on this article again. Too bad it's the internet and that garbage excuse you just made up to save face is easily disproven by quoting the reason you gave for calling him disingenuous.

Also, I like how you made sure to include an "as far as I can tell" while shifting those goalposts from what what MS said to what Cloudengine developers said. Leaving yourself an out, just in case? That smackdown must have stung.

"The first demo was running on a very specific and controlled environment. Of course things would function like a charm. Real world application is another story."

Yeah. Like the supposed "haters" and "fanboys" have been telling some folks who didn't want to hear it for years.

"Because you´re too desperate to trash this game that you don´t even know what you´re talking about here. Cloud power is not supposed to enhance GRAPHICS! Ask your peers about it than get back to me when you have propper information on the matter."

Now that you've been proven wrong, maybe you'll consider that you're too desperate to defend the game when you don't know what you're talking about.

dude Cloudgine is not server tech. It's engine tech that uses cloud servers, in this case Azure. It has been running on Azure from day one. They lost Cloudgine technology because it was bought by epic. There was nothing they could do.

Razzer6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

It is Microsoft's game.

5d ago
rainslacker5d ago

Did ms say they weren't using cloudgine anymore for the game.

I see no reason epic would pull the license just because they brought it, as ms was making a product that would increase it's value once it released. Plus, there were probably contracts which couldn't just get pulled because epic would have to honor any contract in place when they brought it .

If ms was so reliant on a 3rd party engine, then why did they talk it up as if they were at the forefront of this technology, or temper expectations long before this past week, or explain the downgrades after the pitiful showing at e3 last year?

I was really disappointed with the downgraded destruction but still excited for the game as i'll mostly be playing campaign but not being able to play with your friends at launch is inexcusable and flat out embarrassing. This game has turned out to be microsofts biggest let down this generation. This has to be the last time and they need to learn from these mistakes or they wont survive next generation

there was a huge difference in killzone 3 and plenty of other games over the years like the division but I feel like the whole cloud tech goes beyond graphics and is just a huge let down. I know they had serious issues with epic buying cloudgine but Microsoft dug this hole

Did an apocalypse happen we don't know about that brought technology backwards in th last four years?!
I nearly bought an Xbox back when based on the 'power of the cloud'.
But yeah. Keep pumping out articles claiming Microsoft is going to 'kill' next gen. I'll wait. Burn me once, shame on you... Twice.. Shame on me.

PhantomS426d ago

The "Power of Cloud" was always an extremely overexaggerated and overhyped promise. It can be beneficial but there hasn't been one game yet to prove the over-exaggeration to be true. This was supposed to be that game but we all knew years ago it would never live up to expectations.

Potnoodle9996d ago

Yh true, they way overhyped it. And like he said that almost led so many to take the plunge and buy an xbox this gen, including myself. It did look at one point like it would be a game changer (some day in far distant future it might be) but I never expected it to take so many years to create and to be SO underwhelming. Microsoft have such an entertaining story this gen. Lie after failure after lie lie lie....

AngainorG7X6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Well i can't defend what i see. The fact that is so downgraded from the 2014 build is unacceptable, but the fact that they delay the game and didn't even bother to utilize the power of the X is stupid.

Plus the fact that in 5 years SSM managed to build a new engine + God of War. And on the other hand we get this downgraded mess in 5 years. I don't care if it's fun, it's the laziness that i hate and it's the first Xbox exclusive that i will not support.

MasterCornholio6d ago

The destruction is supposed to be the same on every Xbox One due to using server side calculations for it. So technically they couldn’t have taken advantage of th Xbox One Xs power to make it better. Also if they did that it would be unfair from a gameplay perspective to those with weaker Xbox Ones in a multiplayer match.

ArchangelMike6d ago

Dude, seriously just stop drinking that cool-aid, it's bad for your brain. Games have been doing multiplayer destruction since last gen that looked and played much better than Crackdown 3 - without The Power of The Cloud!!!! The destruction was always the same for all players because it was server side - no AzureCloud needed. There is no destruction more complex here in Crackdown 3 than what you would see with Red Faction Guerrilla or Bad Company 2 on the 360.
