EA Believes Battlefield V’s Poor Sales Were Due To Single Player, No, No It Wasn’t

Yesterday Andrew Wilson said that focusing on Single Player and not Battle Royale is what ruined the sales of Battlefield V. Jake gives his opinion on why he thinks this is rubbish.

Single player was the main reason I purchased it.

chrisx2301d ago

games like god of war, spidey ps4, horizon etc prove that blaming single player is pure BS.

TK-552301d ago (Edited 2301d ago )

You can actually blame the single player for playing a part in the BFV failure though. It was the most pathetic excuse of a ww2 era campaign I've ever seen. Literally wrote heroes out of their own stories because they needed to be "inclusive". Really thought that after BF1 they were onto something for their single player experiences with the War Stories framework.

BF3 was literally straight up attempting to follow Black Ops footsteps and BF4 was just generic and uninspired. War Stories gameplay and level design isn't much better but they tried something interesting with the narrative and it was good for the most part. But of course they just couldn't help themselves and just flat out made up things to suit the current political climate.

At this point the BF single player portion is a huge waste of time.

badz1492300d ago

@TK-55

they might actually be right, here. despite games like GoW, Spider-man, Horizon, BotW, Mario, TW3 etc, proving otherwise, the main difference between them and BF are those games have good to excellent campaigns while BF's campaigns haven't been good since BFBC2.

I think DICE lost their mojo in storytelling since the end of BFBC2. Maybe they are too busy tweaking the Frostbite engine and applying ray-tracing or whatever, they forgot to read a book or watch movies or something to inspire them to write a good story. but they aren't missing out on the news, apparently. that's what they are full SJW and LGBTQXYZ mode now. that's the only explanation

beulahland2300d ago

@chrisx completely different SP experiences, dude. BF is a shooter, the games you cited aren't.

darthv722300d ago

Those games do not, have not and will not ever be multiplayer experiences. A game like BFV or COD can have both SP and MP experiences. If EA feels the game under performed because they focused on SP instead of MP then so be it.

Adexus2300d ago

Bought it for both SP and MP, and it was the worst BF single player so far, MP is pretty good though.

I'd like Vietnam or modern next time though.

bondsmx2300d ago

Agreed.

I was thinking, let’s say bf6 is a return to modern times.
Give us just a decent SP. (I couldn’t care less about SP, but I know a lot of people out there do)
A good, return to form MP, with at least 10 maps at launch.
And hopefully, build upon what they learn with their BR mode. All modern times.
That has the possibility of being amazing

RpgSama2300d ago

It's actually true, Single player games was one of the reasons the game underperformed, because it was SJW/Woke trash trying to put women into actual real war event that they weren't part of, instead of using real stories of actual women who were there

AspiringProGenji2300d ago (Edited 2300d ago )

So that was Dice’s fault for following tropes, not the actual feature. More content shouldn’t be a bad thing. In past BF games SP games were tolerable at best and didn’t hurt the game

DefenderOfDoom22300d ago

Even if you change the characters , from the reviews, the BATTLEFIELD 5 campaign was not that good as far as gameplay goes.

fathertime44642300d ago

@rpgsama
The single player in bf5 was based off of true story. They didn't try to force woman in there, they were telling that woman's story.
The real problem with bf5 isn't bf5, it's individuals like you that only know history through the trash they teach in school and from movies. What really happened in WW2 and where a lot of battles were fought and who fought in them is really surprising.
For instance other than pearl harbor was the us attached or included? Yes on a chain of islands in Alaska. Torpedo alley, of the Eastern sea board of the us. So woman and blacks fought in WW2 in other ways than history portrays. Instead of bashing early for having it in the game, maybe you and many, many others should learn the real history of the world. Or you could just play the game because it's a good game and not care about authenticity and realize that it's a video game and meant to be entertaining and engaging, not a history lesson

GameStallion2299d ago (Edited 2299d ago )

Yeah dude, I’d love to play as that Russian sniper chick who was for real! ...As long as they don’t give her a bionic eye or something.

Stop feedng the beast!
You are part of the problem, man :)

totalgaminglegend2300d ago

It was because it was a tiny upgrade to Battlefield 1. Literally could have been DLC. So why would anyone buy the full game for what is DLC.

Fluttershy772300d ago

Players have many free things, that's the problem... They've become spoiled... We should charge for save files, characters, weapons, armor, scenarios, etc etc etc ... Wait, we already do that: Oh I know, let's make an EA service so we can lure the suckers first (by charging them $30 or so) and then when we have them by the balls we can do whatever we want with them

2300d ago
DarXyde2300d ago

They're just trying to justify not giving us Dead Space 4.

Then again, do we really want a Dead Space 4 from EA at this time?

Relientk772301d ago

That's because as usual EA knows nothing. Single player shooter campaigns are fun.

Seraphim2300d ago

indeed. shows how out of touch EA still is.

kneon2299d ago

When you suck at making single player games, then obviously single player is the problem. They would just love it if others in the industry would stop making them look bad by putting out phenomenal single player games.

badz1492300d ago

they had one which was great in the form of TF2 and yet they decided to throw it under a bus so they can buy the developer and now they are stuck with F2P games to take on Fortnite. sigh...

rainslacker2300d ago

Statements like this are made in the hopes that their investor base knows nothing. But, investors will only listen to excuses for so long, so EA either needs to lower it's predictions, become an all out shitty company and just follow the service model it wants and hope it doesn't end up like Sega or Square who underperform by focusing too much on one paradigm, or just be better.

SegaGamer2301d ago (Edited 2301d ago )

EA are so clueless. They see any game as a disappointment if their game isn't making hundreds of millions. They released a game desperate to cash in on the Battle Royale fad, but didn't realise that the gap was already filled. Anybody that wanted a Battle Royale game already had Fortnite and PUBG mixed in with all of the other crappy Battle Royale games.

EA lacks any original creativity, they are so desperate for more money that they just throw any old crap out there these days.

I'm done with them, I haven't bought an EA game in years now and I don't see myself buying any of their games any time soon.

logotero2300d ago

What are you talking about? I've played PUBG since 2017 and actually tried Apex Legends, it's literally a new experience.

xX-oldboy-Xx2300d ago

APEX is good fun, managed a few victories last night.

EA continue to be delusional about their short comings, might be time for some self reflection EA.

Hardiman2301d ago

Hey EA, no it's just you!!!!

Baza2300d ago

Pretty sure EA Cheif Creative Officer went on twitter and said “either accept it or don’t buy the game. I’m fine with either”. Ok well guess what, I didn’t buy the game. And sounds like many other people didn’t either.

Hardiman2300d ago

Yes siirrr, these guys are the poster boys of "outta touch!"

XiNatsuDragnel2301d ago

SP was vital, it's just EA stupidity that got'em this time

Cueil2300d ago

Telling people not to buy your game doesn't help

rainslacker2300d ago

SP wasn't vital, it was just a piss poor situation all around. Poor SP campaign, too much politics during the marketing, pissing off the community, and being EA. It's a culmination of many things. Just having the SP game didn't cause it to underperform. Not having a BR mode didn't cause it to under perform.

EA, and DICE, just need to accept responsibility for their screw ups, instead of trying to deflect in a way that just hopes that investors will continue to support their ultimate goal of having nothing but service based, connected games, which they can monetize their customers with.

More broken and monetised games

indysurfn2036d ago

Hmmmm let me make this a little more honest...: EA teases unknown Micro transactions! Really!, it is literally unknown Micro transactions. They will say they have no "plans" for MT's then release MTs after people start playing it. So they are unknown (to the player that is).

RacerX2036d ago

M... T... SPORTS.... It's in the game (behind a pay wall)

UltraNova2036d ago

Activision beat them to it, EA gotta step it up now...

VenomUK2036d ago

A remastered Mass Effect collection in 4k in time for next-gen would be a nice gifrt to the fans waiting for Mass Effect 4, and I believe it would sell very well.

Limitedtimestruggle2036d ago

I am all for another Battlefield in a few years time. DICE obviously needs their time to avoid another Battlefield V horror release.

execution172036d ago

They should just let LA Dice hire more people and let them work on a Battlefield or another Medal of Honor

anonymousfan2036d ago

A return to bad company would be nice

annoyedgamer2036d ago

Why does everybody blame the developers when its clearly EA that is at fault?

2036d ago
UltraNova2036d ago

Yeah they'll probably do an a female lead, MT filled Bad Company game next.

criticalkare2036d ago

New project at bioware...

Thats scaring me right there....

2036d ago
anonymousfan2036d ago

Hard to believe that studio was responsible for the Mass Effect trilogy. Just a shadow of it's former self. I am somewhat relieved EA didn't shut them down yet... They produced only disasters this gen except for inquisition. Still hoping they will turn that sinking ship around!

TheColbertinator2036d ago

Bioware needs some life support.

DrShoe2036d ago

Someone needs to keep them off the soy

SprigganN4G2036d ago

So next BF will be 100% next gen. Nice! Wanna see a big leap

EA’s E3 2019 press conference - More of what you expect, yet still underwhelming

"EA's E3 2019 press conference is over, and I honestly feel bad the people who hosted this presentation...And I feel equally bad for those who watched the show on site and from the comfort of their homes, and this is the reason why." - Justin Easler, TGG.

SegaGamer2179d ago

Battlefield, FIFA and Madden, these 3 games are at every E3. It's hard to stay interested when we see the same thing every year.

TGG_overlord2178d ago

Yes indeed...And no new IP's whatsoever.
