Anthem mixes a bit of BioWare's signature storytelling with some familiar elements of shared-world shooters--and flying.
I said the same thing lol. Can't invest in this..you can already see the repetitiveness I'm so thankful I had a chance to play a demo.
After finishing Destiny and not contemplating playing the 2nd installment only coz it was free on psn I'm going to be giving this game a miss. It looks too add similar with a few subtle changes like jet packs etc. Not my thing. But before I give a definite "I ain't getting it" I'd like to try that demo, where did you get it from please?
@redgum, you need to pre-order or get an invite from someone that pre-orders to play the beta demo.
Agreed. As a basic rule of thumb, previews are like reviews with a point or two added on, so if the preview reads like a 7? It really was one underwhelming preview, especially for such a big title from such a big website. Previews usually play nice and try to only pick out the best stuff. Even if they can't pick out exciting things they still often put things in an encouraging way. You know, 'This element has potential to be fun', 'I can see how maybe people will love that', 'this bit shows promise' or 'if it can deliver on all its ambition we might have a success on our hands'. Instead they said shooting was underwhelming, that the combat mainly relied on players co-coordinating abilities but that the early level powers they saw weren't impressive and the game, overall, felt very familiar, didn't stand out and took the middle ground. They didn't even rave about the flying, they simply said it 'helps break things up'. Honestly, the time and resources Bioware put into this, with their A team no less, and it seems to be running the risk of merely being slightly better than Evolve but with an added campaign story.
Played the demo, my god its generic. Destiny and Division have nothing to worry about.
Really? I thought the gameplay felt far more dynamic by comparison to the Division.
I actually felt The Division and Anthem were on the same page. At least in terms of both having similar shooting mechanics and 3rd person. One of the first things I thought of when shooting in Anthem was The Division. Obviously the play itself is a bit different in Anthem with the javelins giving you alternative combat options and also being able to fly. But mechanically speaking, shooterwise, incredibly similar to me.
@Seraphim Division is cover based, more accurate shooting with better gun feedback. Anthem shooting felt like the laser weapons in andromeda. Very poor feedback. Also the guns seem like projectile weapons and not hitscan. Anthem demo issues seem to persist since the alpha i played.
it feels like division in the forest with jetpacks. the shooting is division with pitter patter bullet sounds and sponge shots. warframe is better i think. the youtubers will get a few vids, screach a few times though and shout and swear and the kids will all want the game still as usual.
I like Warframe but a big part of that is the Mariana Trench depths that the modding and customisation goes to, something with similar but flashier gameplay without the depth would be boring as hell to me. Whether that's Anthem or not I don't know yet but it looks pretty generic.
The game doesnt even work on Xbox One. It just stays on an endless title screen.
Thats the real end game
If you can even login. I have a feeling they only have like 2 servers for this game. The alpha was the same way, it was available for like 2 or 3 days and I could only login for about 30 min until it kicked me off. EA should not be trusted with anything.
what a waste of resources. onlineshooters are the definition of generic. things never looked better but are rotting from the inside...
The game is mediocre, time and money wasted.
After Mass Effect: Andromeda really not doing well at all, Bioware cannot afford to have this game bomb. If it does, then I believe Dragon Age 4 will be their final chance. Personally, I think we're looking at another Visceral situation. From the look of things, Bioware's magic is long gone unfortunately.
Literally waitied since 7pm and finally logged in. Started missions. Long loading time and crashes. I’m done. Horrible motion blur on everything on xbox one x and 20fps performance. You can’t run in the hub area as it can’t handle it I think. We get to 4k and you add motion blur FFS. I wouldn’t like to be an EA share holder right now, this was an expensive experiment that simply hasn’t come together.
It's destiny 2.5.lol. Pass.
Looks like it could be fun for a few hours then it will turn into a repetitive loot reward loop grind.
Welp, apparently I'm in the small camp of people who are enjoying Anthem. I can already tell its going to be far more complex and deep than Destiny, and that's really all I'm looking for.
Meh, game looks dull, like it would get boring pretty quickly.
Its really not dull, I just think it is difficult to be a AAA multiplayer, single player optional success. There is a myriad of options, but maybe, outside of the great cosmetic vsuals/loadout options, Anthem may be a game burdening itself by trying to do so much. *shrugs*
At least Bungie will get a break from the Destiny haters since it appears Anthem is the new target.
A great story with dynamic choices would have made everyone over look the Destiny style play and set them apart, but they didn't want to do a great story or have dynamic choices. They only wanted to make a generic live service game, and they succeeded. So, can't wait for CyberPunk to come out.
I don't mind the game, but the loading times and the framerate drops are fucking shit. Also if you get booted from the game you lose your loot, different story If you're able to re-connect and finish loading into the fort, but if you disconnect finish or CE error crash you lose 40 mins worth of loot. I'm loving the Storm Javelin, It'll probably be getting the nerf bat, but since I jumped up from Normal/Hard I can just spew combo's left/right/front¢re.
I think Anthem should have been a singleplayer focused, story driven, AAA game with optional multiplayer. What little bit I was able to play due to the tech difficulties left me a little skeptical as to it's longterm success (eye-melting as it may be). My 2 pennies...
