UK Charts: Ace Combat 7 breaks franchise records, but Mario holds No.1

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown just posted its biggest UK launch.

The Bandai Namco flight game debuts at No.2 in the UK physical charts. It's the first game in the series since 2014's Ace Combat Infinity. The franchise debuted in 1995.

The game was most popular on PS4, with 76 per cent of sales coming on Sony's platform. The PS4 version features an added VR mode.

Despite its impressive start, the title couldn't topple New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe from No.1. The Nintendo Switch game retains its top position despite a 43 per cent drop in sales week-on-week.

“Ace Combat 7 breaks franchise records”

Great to hear. Haven’t played it myself but from what I’ve seen it looks great. Visuals look nice and being 60fps is a plus.

“The game was most popular on PS4, with 76 per cent of sales coming on Sony's platform.”

I feel like we’ll see a similar ratio with KH3.

It makes sense tho more ps4 sold in Europe , if Xbox win anything it would mean everyone ignore their ps4

Ace 7 sold very well coz its on PS4 where gamers buy 3rd party multiplat games unlike on Switch where only Nintendo made games get bought.

Unspoken2335d ago

Timed exclusive for Ace Combat contributes to these sales figures. Sony pulling this garbage again and screwing gamers over.

This franchise is finally getting the love it deserves..
Glad they made a new episode, a good AC was really missing last gen.

CorndogBurglar2336d ago

I liked the last Ace Combat that came out last gen. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Having said that, I agree. It didn't always feel like a proper Ace Combat.

cyber_daemonx2336d ago

Can't wait to try this on psvr.

Knushwood Butt2336d ago (Edited 2336d ago )

I beat the first mission. It's great but potentially spew inducing. I've played many games in VR with almost no motion sickness but this is on another level.

The free flight mode is pretty relaxing though and no need to do barrel rolls in that - just cruise around and enjoy the atmosphere.

OneMadGamer2336d ago

I enjoyed Ace Combat 7 but at the sametime feel that it lacked a few things. Multiplayer (only 2 modes) compared to AC6 (4 modes) is a big let down. Heck AC7 Battle Royal only has 8 players vs AC6 16. The story was o.k. but it felt similar to other AC games I've played. Though there were some parts that did feel new.

Abnor_Mal2336d ago

Unfortunately many many older fans of the series were unable to play Ace6 as it was an XBox exclusive. Agree that more multiplayer modes would have been better. Did not know Ace6 had a battle royale mode, and with sixteen players, I bet what was awesome for it's time.
My only minor gripe for Ace7, and understand i only played the first level so far, but when throttling up pressing R2 I could not feel the plane accelerate. Compared to Ace5 where the plane would shake was missing in this nee game. I did have an intense dogfight with one plane that lasted several rocket misses and a couple minutes, as it felt like the enemy adapted to what I was doing and kept close to me doing barrel rolls around me breaking my lock. Have to finish Ace5 first before I really jump into Ace7 and PSVR with Hotas.

Man, I absolutely love Ace Combat 7. Mission 3 kind of shocked me with how it ends and I love how Mission 4 introduces the squad.

Abnor_Mal2335d ago

Squad? I wonder will I be flight leader and give commands like Blaze in Ace5?

Literally, the vast majority of these games aren't flight simulators. Don't write about what you don't know.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown Has Sold 6 Million Units

Today Bandai Namco Aces announced that Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown has added another million units sold to its trophy case.

Luc20148d ago

Great game but too difficult. Couldn't finish it and moved on.

sinjonezp148d ago

I am with you. By mission 17 my mind was checking out. However.....Can we get a new one by now?

Luc20148d ago

Well done getting that far! I think I made it to chapter 7 or 8. That bloody timer! Would play this game more if it was a bit easier. I might try again sometime see if I got better

strifeblade147d ago (Edited 147d ago )

Generation is too soft. Game was not difficult by my memory. Great and fair challenge.

Gamist2dot0147d ago

Wwwwut?... Did you use same jet throughout the whole game???

FinalFantasyFanatic147d ago

I struggled too, I didn't get very far, I can't remember if the previous games were even this hard.

An excellent game, one of my favorites in recent memory. I only wish they made the VR mode span the entire campaign instead of a few select missions. And that they updated it for PS5/PSVR2, the resolution quite sucked in PSVR1.

ApocalypseShadow147d ago

Agreed. They could have sold a whole lot more units for VR users. To this day, I still go back and play those few missions. Stopped caring about the main game because I got so used to playing in VR. PC VR users would have bought copies as well.

Hopefully we get 8 or a remake of earlier entries.

Not even available physically in the US apparently. Good job Namco

jznrpg326d ago

That’s always disappointing

Sgt_Slaughter326d ago

Namco/Capcom/Square are notorious for skipping the US for physical releases of some games and it's always a disappointment. It's much easier to import nowadays, but we shouldn't have to resort to that.

jznrpg326d ago

Fun game. They should have made a PSVR 2 port as well.

Snookies12326d ago (Edited 326d ago )

I honestly thought it did have PSVR 2 support, but was sadly mistaken. I was excited to check this out when I bought mine. It is so incredibly stupid that Sony hasn't figured out some way to bring VR 1 games to VR 2. Especially when they're barely giving VR 2 any support as it is.
