Who Will Have a Better 2019, Microsoft or Sony?

Alex S. from Link-Cable writes: " In past years the answer was pretty obvious that Sony was geared to have better seasons as the PlayStation 4 was not only the platform of choice for third parties but Sony was also firing on all cylinders when it came to their first party line up. 2019 though seems to finally be bucking that trend."

Depends on what MS shows at E3 and what PS exclusives release this year. I'm very excited for both and can't wait to see reactions from both sides. We're at the end of the generation so it's unknown what can happen.

chrisx1916d ago

Sony got 2019 on lockdown. The PS exclusives releasing this year will make sure of that. Id say ninty will take 2nd spot and MS will come last.

sprinterboy1914d ago

Same order as any other year then haha

demonicale1914d ago

Disagree, they have a few but I don't think they have 2019 on "lockdown".

stupidusername1914d ago

Depends on what you call a win. In terms of sale I don’t think anyone can beat Sony. But we still don’t know which sony exclusives will release for ps4 this year except for Days Gone and Dreams. (Am i missing any?)
Nintendo has confirmed Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Pokemon and No More Heroes.

If Sony confirm ghost, stranding and TLOU 2 for 2019, then it’s a done deal.
Though Nintendo could as well confirm Bayonetta 3, Metroid and Pikmin 4.

So In terms of exclusives it could be a hard fight between Nintendo and Sony.

StormSnooper1914d ago (Edited 1914d ago )

@stupidusername
A prevelant misconception among gamers is that PS4’s exclusives are limited to a handful of well known upcoming titles (like Death Stranding, TLOU2, DG, GOT, Dreams, Concrete Genie, etc). But, PS4 has so much more than that as do other consoles of course, but in Playstation’s case it’s even more so, and that’s not even talking about “console exclusives” like games such as Hong Kong Massacre (on PC too?) or all the amazing games coming to PlayStation VR (which are all exclusives by default).

stupidusername1914d ago

@StormSnooper
Yes absolutely! Sony beats it out of the park there although there’s tons of not well known exclusives on switch as well.
But I wouldn’t call any of them heavy hitters or system seller in the same way the top exclusives are which is why I didn’t include them.

Sony wins in most scenarious. But Nintendo stands a good chance imo winning the heavy hitter (exclusive) race in 2019 now that both Sony and Microsoft are transitioning to the next generation.

Honestly? It's not even fair for MS...

Obscure_Observer1915d ago

Yes, i think we all can agree that Crackdown 3 and Gears 5, probably will be no match for TLOU 2 and Death Stranding. I think Days Gone will be a solid game, but not great. Ghost of Tsushima will probably see it´s release by 2020.

I think Microsoft can even the odds if they manage to pull off a great show at E3 2019.

UltraNova1915d ago

Obscure

Forget Shows and promises dude, just focus on actual product released by MS for you to purchase.

Razzer1914d ago

"I think Microsoft can even the odds if they manage to pull off a great show at E3 2019."

I don't see how a "great show" evens the odds against actual games any year, frankly.

. . . . . . levels

NarutoFox1914d ago (Edited 1914d ago )

It will be interesting. On Microsoft side I feel like Gears of War is a mediocre game now imo. I'm hoping Ori comes out this year. On Sony side I'm a little concerned with Dayz gone.

Critic4l_Strik31914d ago

@Obscure
Great show =/= great games

Dragonscale1914d ago

It'll take more than e3 to even the odds lol.

@Travis

Don't understand the disagrees, maybe you should have said we're nearing the end of this generation instead... But I agree with you.

It depends on the announcements for 2019 from both Xbox and PlayStation, and what PS exclusives actually release in 2019 (mainly TLoU2, Ghost, and Death Stranding). Based on history and what we know PlayStation has the advantage already with plenty of exclusives both big and small announced, meanwhile Xbox has Gears, Crackdown 3, and maybe a few more announcements at E3. E3 will make or break Xbox year, meanwhile PS can simply coast through 2019 as they get ready for a 2020/2021 PS5 launch.

Razzer1914d ago (Edited 1914d ago )

"E3 will make or break Xbox year"

People are disagreeing because of this notion of E3 making a difference. E3 2019 gives a glimpse of what is coming in 2020 and beyond. When I look back and evaluate gaming in previous years I don't even think about E3. I look at the games and games alone. E3 is just a show. It doesn't make the current year better or worse when it comes to playing games. Just builds hype for the future.

bluefox7551914d ago

You'd have to be pretty gullible to expect MS to win anything console related at this point.

nucky641914d ago

i would say the disagrees are due to his first sentence. it's ridiculous to compare what microsoft SHOWS at E3 vs games sony ACTUALLY RELEASES in 2019. he should have said "it depends on what games MS and sony release in 2019 - that makes sense. i think sony will come out ahead on exclusives released this year. they have days gone set for april with DS, GoT and LoU2 sometime in '19 as well - if true, MS can't match that. regardless, MS can't catch up on this gen, which leads (for me) to the more interesting question: which companies next console announcement ends up getting the most buzz. it's almost assured that both will announce their next consoles this year - so, that (for me) is the most interesting thing for this year.

kevnb1914d ago (Edited 1914d ago )

It really doesnt matter what is shown at e3, e3 is just a glorified video game fan fest now. Sony will own 2019 and I cant see it changing this gen.

RosweeSon1913d ago

It really doesn’t it depends on what they get to shelves they’ve had 4-5 years of E3 and broken promises time to get real and actually release games like this year?! Madness I know.

RosweeSon1913d ago

What makes me laugh is people still think the big companies need to wait til E3 each year to reveal new games. No.
Sony did play experience and they have their own website lol
Nintendo do directs and did space world and do treehouse at E3 if your a big enough company you announce games as and when you want not June each year because there’s a games conference. Sure few surprises and reveals great but Days when you wait all year for E3 to see what games to look forward to over next 12-18 months are long gone.
Microsoft have enough money and enough clout to announce games any day of the week they just don’t have them or anything worthy of singing and dancing about and spending more money on publicity.
Yet Nintendo do a Direct every 2-3 months announcing multiple new titles each time.

Edito1913d ago

Unknown lol it already happened bro... Is it that hard to see or to admit?

Sony, without a doubt.

No exclusives, no chance for Microsoft.

Obscure_Observer1915d ago

@lelo2play

"No exclusives, no chance for Microsoft."

I agree that Sony has the advantage even if Days Gone is the only first party game which has a release date officially confirmed.

Microsoft has Gears 5 and Crackdown 3 confirmed

uptownsoul1915d ago (Edited 1915d ago )

@Obscure_Observer

"I agree that Sony has the advantage even if Days Gone is the only first party game which has a release date officially confirmed."

Not True...Days Gone is not the only first party game with a release date

Technically Both Microsoft & Sony have 2 first party AAA games confirmed for 2019
Microsoft: Gears 5 & Crackdown 3
Sony: MLB 19 (March 26) and Days Gone (April 26)

Now the big question is, will either of them have any additional AAA games for 2019…(not sure if Xbox has any other possibilities…But we all know Sony does have other possible AAA game/s for 2019)

UniqueGuy911914d ago (Edited 1914d ago )

Though only Days Gone and MLB '19 has a release date, Dreams, Blood & Truth, Concrete Genie are all already confirmed for 2019 as well.

If one the big 3(TLOU 2, GoT, Death Stranding) releases alongside these, Sony will have a great year.

DaDrunkenJester1914d ago

Microsoft also has Ori confirmed for 2019 which is one of my top anticipated games This year. Also cuphead DLC, and a large update for Forza Motorsport 7 since they aren't working on 8. Also some smaller indies like Tunic.

I'm also optimistic that Battletoads will get a Holliday release

StormSnooper1914d ago

Are you guys forgetting that the famous titles are not the only exclusives on PlayStation? Or are other exclusives not a consideration? People act like there is only Days Gone, etc, there are so many exclusives on PlayStation these days that you lose track of them. Example, I’m very excited for Hong Kong Massacre, are you guys saying that such games don’t count because they are less known titles? How about all the games releasing on VR? Do those don’t count?

OpenGL1914d ago

Dreams is in beta now so it's definitely releasing in 2019.

sammarshall1021916d ago (Edited 1916d ago )

I think Sony does with Day's Gone, Judgment (Judge Eyes) Shenmue, Concrete Genie, Left Alive and Dreams

Edit: I guess this question is for 1st party only

Something tells me Death Stranding and TLOU 2 will also release later this year

rob-GP1914d ago

Don't think it matters if it's first party or not, as long as it's exclusive to that platform. We're getting Dreams this year as well as things like Catherine Full Body and a few others. There were 21 true and console exclusives which have a possibility of coming out in 2019 - all depend on what gets released, but all MS has said so far is maybe three or four console exclusives, A few don't have any gameplay footage or info on them though like Gears and Ori 2.

I seriously doubt we'll see those this year, especially Gears, as they would have shown us something other than a pre-rendered cut scene by now.

sammarshall1021913d ago

I totally agree I've actually been saying it doesn't matter who makes the game for a while. I was just wondering if the article was being semantic

OpenGL1914d ago

I definitely think TLOU2 will release this year (probably Q3 or Q4) as we're coming up on 3 years since Uncharted 4 released, two since Lost Legacy. Supposedly development started before Uncharted 4 released.

The 10th Rider1913d ago

This is a little off topic, but what's your take on the PS5 if Death Stranding and TLOU2 hit this year?

I was leaning holiday 2019, but Days Gone and Dreams got pushed back to this year, there hasn't been any major leaks, and it's looking like AMD might not have the chips ready for later this year.

All of those combined had me leaning 2020, but I'm in the same boat as you in that I think TLOU2 and DS could *both* hit this year. One hitting this year looks likely.

I can't really see Sony just trying to coast to Holiday 2020 so now I'm actually feeling a Spring 2020 release might be in the cards. I just don't see Sony releasing both DS and TLOU2 this year and then wait until the end of next year for their new console.

sammarshall1021913d ago (Edited 1913d ago )

After thinking about it and combing over some stuff I think that TLOU part 2, Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima are all 2019 and we'll get the release date for Death Stranding in May for a June release, Ghost of Tsushima will be August and TLOU part 2 will be Oct or Nov, Idk about Dreams I think Concrete Genie will be May

For PS5 I think the reveal will be later this year for a spring 2020 release

ApocalypseShadow1916d ago (Edited 1916d ago )

Article summary:

If you ignore and downplay Sony's in house exclusives, if you ignore that PS4 will still have more exclusives than Microsoft, if you forget that 99% of 3rd party games are coming to Playstation as well no matter what Microsoft shows, if you downplay Sony's dominance while playing up Microsoft's "fixes," if you forget the many exclusives that are coming out on PSVR, the ONLY console vr platform. If you forget that Microsoft's recently acquired developers still have games coming out on PS4 like Outer Worlds and The Mage's tale. And, if you become oblivious to the fact that Sony has a next generation system coming too and Microsoft would be stupid in announcing theirs so soon after the $500 X,then...

2019 looks about even between them based on this article.

These seems like one of the best options for use with a PS5, high quality sound and design. However, you will likely need a dongle for use with many of your bluetooth devices such as an iPhone as it requires a LE signal.

Abnor_Mal4h ago

The only purpose I could see me buying them is that they would be more comfortable to wear with PSVR2 compared to their Pulse/Pulse Elite over the head/over the ear cup headphones.

Babadook72h ago

Thats why I want them. Lower weight is a big plus for VR.

Their newer giga cart tech should make for even bigger games coming to the platform. I'm hoping for a Resident Evil collection with the first 3 games.
